一本有关中国、与中国名字相称的书，应该是坦诚相见，不自惭形秽的，因为中国人向来就是一个骄傲的民族，它具有坦率与自豪的资本。
对中国的理解应该是具有智慧和洞察力的理解，因为中国人在理解人类本质时就胜其他所有民族一筹，是聪明而富有洞察力的。对中国的阐述应该是富有幽默感的，因为幽默是中国人本性的一部分。深沉、圆熟、友好的幽默，基于对生活的悲剧性认识与认可之上。对中国的阐述，语言应该是流畅的、精确的、优美的，因为中国人向来高度评价精确与优雅之美。
