The Phantom of the Opera is set in 1870 at the Paris Opera House. The beautiful, young girl, Christine Daae, steps into the spotlight after the opera’s spoiled diva, Carlotta, quits the performance. Christine’s been taught by a mysterious ‘Angel of Music’ for a long time. Her unseen teacher has taught her well and she sings well. Due to the ‘angel’s threaten, the theatre’s new managers are so scared that allow Christine to become their new leading lady. Christine’s teacher is really the disfigured Phantom who built the Opera House, but his voice is as beautiful as the voice of an angel. A musical genius who’s gone mad, the Phantom, named Erik has lovingly overseen Christine’s growth. As she gets her opportunity to show onstage, the Phantom’s affection and hold over the young woman is in danger when the wealthy

young viscount, Raoul, falls in love with the beauty. Everybody says that his face so ugly, so pale, with two deep black holes for eyes. He has an enormous and tragic love for Christine. Erik has kidnaped Christine to his home in the cellars and reveals his true identity. He plans to

keep her there only a few days, hoping she will come to love him. But she causes Erik to change his plans when she sees his real face and to the horror of both, beholds his face. Furious, he lets her know of his despair and love. Fearing that she will leave him, he decides to keep her with him forever, but after two weeks, when Christine requests release, he agree on condition that she would wear his ring and be faithful to him. Raoul and Christine, they knew each other when they were young. He tries his best to take Christine away after he realized Erik’s abnormal affection. And finally, Erik kidnaps Christine during a production of Faust. Back in the cellars, Erik tries to force Christine into marring him. But he died and lets Christine go at last.

In the matter of fact that Erik is a tragic character. he is loathed by others even his parents who abandoned him when he was a child. Nobody cares about him, no one pays attention to hi. All the things he has done are to draw people’s attention and get love from others. This is the tragedy of the era, this is the tragedy of human nature.

一． 剧情简介

In a theatre lives a mysterious person, who is called the phantom. He is a musical genius and can control the operation of the theatre. There is a dancing girl named Christine that he has loved for a long time. However, nobody has seen the phantom, even Christine. With the help of the angel of music in Christine’s mind, she can sing well since she was a little girl. One day, there comes a new investor and a new owner of the theatre. Surprisingly, Christine finds that the new investor was her childhood-sweetheart, Raoul. And the phantom catches the chance to replace the original soprano（女高音） by Christine. Then, the story begins.

四． 剧本正文

Scene one 地点：舞台上

舞台上正进行彩排，Carlotta唱一小段，舞者上场。Mrs. Giry带着Raoul 和 new owner上台。

G: Ladies, let me introduce our new investor and new owner of the theatre to you. This is Raoul Shanny and this is Mr. Andre.

R: I’m very glad to be the new investor.

Dancers: Wow, he is so handsome.

A: I hope we can work together for the better future of our theatre.

Ch(对Meg说): Is it Raoul?

M: You know him?

Ch: We grew up together. You can say we are childhood sweetheart, but I haven’t seen him for many years. Oh, I can’t believe my eyes.

M: He is so handsome.

Mrs. Giry把Carlotta介绍给Raoul 和new owner。

G: This is the soprano of our theatre, Carlotta.

Ca(主动牵起Raoul的手): Hello, my dear investor. （其他人做厌恶状）

R: Nice to meet you. I am sorry for interrupting your rehearsal. Hope you present a wonderful performance tonight. I have something else to do. Excuse me for my leaving.

Ca（转身向Andre）Mr. Andre, have you heard my singing just now? I believe the answer is yes and it’s very very beautiful voice. Haha…Actually, no one in this theatre can sing better than me. I am the queen of the opera! Hahaha…

P: Stupid woman! There is someone who can replace you!

一声巨响，舞者们四处逃跑，躲在角落里。信封掉下，Mrs. Giry拾起，是来自phantom的信件。

G: This is the letter from the phantom. “The spotlight tonight does not belong to Carlotta. If she dare stand on the stage, she will be punished. And, welcome the new investor and new owner”…

Car: What? Punished? Who the hell is he? I won’t care anyway. Let’s continue practicing.

Scene two 地点：后台

Carlotta在化妆间练声，她叫仆人给她倒杯水，于是只剩下她一人。突然间…奇怪的声音出现，背后似乎有影子闪过…是phantom来惩罚Carlotta了。一个黑影迅速出现在她身后，她被紧紧地掐住，直到窒息而死。Carlotta最终倒在了地上，而phantom已消失不见。仆人回来，

仆人：Carlotta…（检查一下）Help! Carlotta has no breath!!!

众人围过来，确认她已死。对于凶手，议论纷纷。有人把Carlotta抬下去。Mrs. Giry神情紧张，独自在一旁。

A(慌张): Mrs. Giry, who will sing tonight! Without the soprano, what can the audience expect for?

G: …（沉思）

A: (再喊一遍)Mrs. Giry!

G: Oh, I’m sorry. I think I can find a backup for the show.

A: who?

G: We have Christine. (走向Christine) She.

A: A dancer?

G: Don’t worry. I know she has an excellent tutor, and she has beautiful voice. Ch: Sorry, Mrs. Giry, I don’t think I can.

G: Of course you can. You have practiced a lot.

Scene three 地点：舞台转后台

Christine最终成为了首演的主唱，她的天籁之音征服了现场的观众。演出结束后她接受了众人的祝贺。

M(走向Christine): Christine, you are so amazing. I wonder who your tutor is. Ch: I don’t even know his name. But my father has mentioned him. Before my father died, he said that he would send me the angel of music. It’s him. Can you hear that?

M: Christine you must have been dreaming, things like this can not happen. Ch: It’s true. The angel of music teaches me in this way. (音乐响起)

M: Christine, I think you are tired now. Have a rest. I have to prepare for the next show. See you.

Christine在后台走来走去，Raoul手持玫瑰搜寻着她

R: Can it be Christine?(上前) Christine?

Ch: Raoul?

R: You sing like an angel tonight.

Ch: Thank you, I am so happy to see you again.

R: You are as beautiful as before.

两人跳起舞,深情对望

R: Hey, let’s have dinner together. You must get changed. I will wait for you on the carriage.

Raoul离开，Christine准备换装之际，phantom的呼唤出现，音乐响起。Christine试图寻找。

Ch: Where in the world you have been hiding? I hope you can speak to me. P: I am by your side. You can sense me if you concentrate on your mind. Ch: Are you here? Really? Angel, I can’t find you! Can you give me a hint? P: Come here, to the door, I am here. Come, come…

Phantom 像施魔法一样，将Christine引到门前，然后伸出手，让她情不自禁地投入自己的怀抱。

Scene four 地点：密室

带着面具的Phantom 把Christine从门后带出，慢慢引到密室。

Ch: Angel, where are you leading me?

P: Come…Come…

Ch: Where am I?

P: You are in my arm. Come with me to the wonderland.

随着音乐，他们两个跳起了舞蹈，Christine意识渐渐模糊了，此时，她已经在phantom的控制之下。

P: Sing, my angel of music

Ch：Is there the phantom of opera? Ah~~

P: Our strange duet….my power has grown stronger and stronger…

Ch: Ah~~~

P: Sing for me!

随着音乐声结束，Christine瘫在地上，晕在phantom的怀抱里。

Scene five 地点：房间

Raoul进门之后发现Christine不见了，急忙四处寻找。期间撞见了Mrs. Giry, 急切询问。

R: Mrs. Giry. Have you seen Christine? I can’t find her. She was in this room just now.

G: (不说话，犹豫)

R: Mrs. Giry…

G: She must be with him.

R: What? Who?

G: Sorry. I should not have told you this.(要离开)

R:（抓住她问）No, Mrs. Giry. I love Christine. I must know what happened to her. And you know something. You should tell me. Please.

夫人犹豫了一下，并四周望了望，拉着Raoul到房间的一个角落，一同坐下，

慢慢地讲述了真相。在另外一个角落同时进行着表演。

G: In this opera house lives a phantom. He is a musical genius. I know him since I was young. When I first saw him, he was beaten hardily by a man in a cage, only because he was born ugly. The crowd watched him under suffering and laughed. However, I felt sympathetic for him and when no one was there, I let him out. Since then, he has lived in a secret room which he built by himself. R: Where is the room?

G: Sorry, I have no idea. And you know why I picked up Christine to be the soprano? It’s the phantom’s order.

R: So the death of Carlotta is …

G: You’re right. It’s the phantom’s punishment. (四周望，紧张)Sorry, I have to go now. I have told you too much.

R: Mrs. Giry…

Raoul在原地沉思了一会儿，断然拔出身上佩戴着的剑，冲出房间。

Scene six 地点：密室

Christine从昏迷中醒来，发现周围的一切很陌生。她慢慢地起身，看到有一个人坐在暗室的一端，于是慢慢向他靠近。

Ch: Where am I? I remember I have met the angel of music. And I have danced with him. (转头看到phantom) He’s there!

P: Christine.

Ch: (慢慢靠近). Who is the face under the mask? (抚摸他的脸) Oh, my angel of music.

P: (无防备地) My Christine…

出于好奇，Christine突然间揭开了phantom的面具，丑恶之脸随即露出，phantom暴怒之下把Christine大力地推到地上，面具也掉在了地上

P: Damn you! You little prying Pandora! Is this what you wanted to see? Curse you!

Ch: (恐惧地望着发狂的phantom，说不出话)

P: You know how much I love you! Now you cannot ever be free! You must stay with me forever.

Ch: No…

远远地传来对Christine的呼唤声，Christine连忙站起呼应, Raoul来救她了。正当她要冲出去的时候，phantom抓住了她。Raoul 持剑冲入。

Ch:（不断挣扎）let me go…let me go…

R: You poor and cruel monster. I would never allow you to hurt her!

P: Who are you? (轻蔑地) Christine is in love with me.

R: But I don’t think so. Free her! (把剑示战)

Phantom放开了Christine, 冲向Raoul, 在音乐声中激烈开战。可是，Raoul 最终还是受伤倒下了，Phantom正要拿剑刺向Raoul的时候， Christine冲出保护，阻止了他的恶行。

Ch: No!! I love him! Even if you kill him, I would never be with you!

P: Is he more important than me? Then what about your show? What about your success? I have done so much for you, but he has done nothing.

Ch:(气愤地接过话，慢慢接近phantom) Really, you have done so much for me, including cheating me. You are not the angel of music. You are the angel of hell! Phantom手松动，剑也掉到地上，向后退了几步，开始醒悟。

Ch: Your ugly face can not scare me now. It’s your cruel soul that drives me away.

Phantom从哭泣中缓过来，慢慢转身背对Christine，最终释怀

P: (不舍地，悲痛的) Go, Go~~Forget me! Forget about everything. (离场)

Christine回头，两人互相呼唤。C跑到R身边，慢慢地扶他起来，站起来后依偎在一起。音乐响起，退场。
