The feeling after reading The Great Gatsby

The Great Gatsby, written by Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald in 1925, tel

ls a story about Gatsby, about American’s pursuing money and enjoyment in J

azz Age, and makes introspection of the spirit crisis which exists in the reality

and ostentation and the disillusionment of American Dream (Fitzgerald, 1925).

Lady Daisy Broke with Gatsby, and married with Tom because of his wealth.

Although Gatsby’s heart never changed, Daisy still abandoned him, and Gatsb

y died miserably at last. I think there are two reasons caused Gatsby’s death:

his idealized and the society.

Gatsby was idealized. He loves Daisy and his heart never changed even

Daisy did not love him anymore. He wanted to be with Daisy but Daisy was

no longer the girl he met when he was young. She has changed from pure to

pursue money and enjoyment. Daisy loves money, she did not care about Gat

sby, who took the responsibility for the accident made by her. His purity mad

e him die at the end. Daisy did not come in his funeral, she was on vocation.

I feel pity about Gatsby. If he realized earlier that Daisy actually did not car

e him, maybe he would not die.

Sometimes we can’t put the past and the current together, for they have a

long distance. The past has gone like the cloud has floated away, even the cl

oud is pretty, and it can’t come back and stand before you again.

第二篇:Gatsby 伟大的盖茨比读后感

Thoughts of “the Great Gatsby”

"The Great Gatsby" was written by Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald, who was born in Sao Paulo, Minnesota in America.

Published in nineteen twenty-five, "The Great Gatsby" was set in the nineteen twenties in New York City and on Long Island. It was regarded as the symbol of "Jazz Age" of American literature and it is now considered as one of the greatest modern American novels.

The novel is started by Nick’s statement. Nick, who was regarded as Gatsby’s only confidant and was the witness to the glitz that ultimately reflects emptiness and selfishness in the American society, but not success .

According to Nick, we can gradually know the venation of the story between Gatsby and Daisy. Gatsby was born in penury, however, he was ambitious and later became rich because of bootlegging. Virtually, the reason why Gatsby had been dying for fortune and power was Daisy’s betrayal. And Daisy, who was Gatsby’s lover when Gatsby served with the colours. Obviously, Daisy impressed herself into Gatsby’s heart during that time. But then Daisy put away Gatsby heartless and married Tom, who was a fairly rich man at that time. However, Gatsby could no forget Daisy all the time, and it had become Gatsby’s dream that he believed he can draw Daisy’s heart back if he can possess a huge amount of money. With the help of Nick, Gatsby and Daisy have a reunion.

Gatsby showed Daisy around his luxury house, Daisy felt surprisingly and even cried regretfully. Nevertheless, when Gatsby try in vain to regain Daisy’s heart, he faced with a miserable ending unexpectedly. Daisy killed Tom’s mistress in a drunken driving, and then she pinned it on Gatsby after plotting with Tom. Finally, Gatsby’s life ended up being shot by the mistress’s husband. The dream of American was broken. In spite of the efforts Gatsby done for success, he lost Daisy at last .what’s more, he even lost himself.

In my opinion, it seems that all of Gatsby’s life was connected with waiting. Gatsby waited for a moment when he could become a rich man as soon as possible, he waited for brightening up “the green light” one day, and he could even sacrifice his freedom of life for Daisy. However, I think Gatsby was too stubborn in pursuit of the path he have chosen, but not in pursuit of the real meaning of his dream.

What impressed me most was Daisy’s coldness by the end of the novel. It was hard to understand the reason why Daisy could forgive Tom’s betrayal easily and pin the accident on Gatsby without mercy. Daisy may stand for most people at that time, they pursued for fortune, and enjoyed reveling in luxury. They only cared their self-interest. Therefore, emotion between people had been paled steeply everyday. What’s further, this story revealed many problems of American society. The ending of Gatsby reminded me of a word—cruelty.

After reading this novel, I can not help wondering the real mind of people in1920s. Many people like Daisy might become heartless gradually, and things seemed would hard to change .The upper society trampled penniless men under foot, and all things were taken for granted by people. Those people who tried to get rid of the poor situation might win a lot with their efforts at the beginning, but it was still bound to fail at last .The last sentence of the novel leave me think a lot ---“So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.”

Symbolism in wide rang is a distinctive feature of the novel. For instance, the green light near Daisy’s house symbolized the dream of Gatsby, the old clock on the mantelpiece signified the irreversible old days. It plays a significant role in showing the characteristics of characters and revealing the sociological tragedy .And it is poetical enough to add more interests to my reading.

The languages in the novel also impressed me. With the dynamic languages being used, I can almost see different vivid scenes appear gradually. Many paragraphs which were written in fantastic languages just like prose poetries, and let me can not help reading more times.
