“for you, a thousand times over”____The Kite Runne Review

I am convinced that fewbooks are as good as this one. To be honest, I hadn’t maintained that this book would appeal me before I read it. However, I was absorbed in the book from the first chapter to the last one. Why this book has appealed to me that much? I asked myself. This book is not my type of reading for only romantic books could draw my attention successfully. Then I came into a conclusion that it is the friendship and familyship fascinated me.

To the world you are one person, but to the person who loves you, you are the world. Amir was Hassan’s world. Amir’s name had been the first word Hassan spoke. Hassan threatened brutal Assef for the sake of Amir. Hassan never failed to run the kite to please Amir. Hassan sacrificed himself for Amir’s house. These are more than a friend would do. Only those who loves you so much could challenge himself to do what Hassan did to Amir.To Hassan, Amir was not only a mere friend but a brother. He loved Amir more than anything else. Even after Amir betrayed him, he still told his son proudly“Agan Amir is my best friend”.Maybe for Hassan “for you, a thousand times over” has another meaning, which is not just kite running for Amir but he will do anything for Amir.

If Hassan could be described as an angel, then Amir was just a person. I did hate Amir for he watched Hassan be raped and did nothing, for he made Hassan leave his born-place, for he aimed Hassan with fruit(even though he actually tried to make himself get punished). Amir didn’t deserve what Hassan did to him. I thought his meanness caused Hassan’s tragedy. But after I finished the book, I realized it is not Hassan’s tragedy, it is Amir’s. For what he had done to Hassan, he had led a live with regret and suffered endless sleepless nights. His going back to Afghanistan is not only a journey physically but a journey to atonement. Hassan’s son, his nephew saved, Amir’s sin was finally washed. Like the life of circle, Amir ran kite for his miserable nephew. As Hassan did to him, he said “for you , a thousand times over” to Sohrab.Though the book doesn’t give us an accurate ending whether Sohrab came into life again. I am sure love can cure everything. Only when Sohrab lives a happy life as Hassan hoped can Amir’s sin washed up.

The friendship between Hassan and Amir moved me. I believe All the people who read it is going to be touched just as I am. This book does make me think the good and the bad ,what’s wrong and what’s right, the cruelty of war . Few books can exert an influence on people nowadays, this book sure does.

第二篇:the kite runner读后感

For You, a Thousand Times Over

Written by Khaled Hosseini, The Kite Runner became one of the best sellers in New York Times when it was first published in the year of 2003. Most people were astonished after read it since it contains almost all important themes presented in other literatures—love, friendship, loyalty, fear, guilty and redemption. Being his first novel, The Kite Runner helped Hosseini gain great reputation and fame. So when his second novel, A Thousand Splendid Suns, came out in 2007, many people paid attention on it and it was also well received.

Different from other literatures, The Kite Runner is not only a moving novel which tells us a sweeping story about friendship, family love and redemption, but also a summary of historical events in Afghanistan which gives us a more thorough understanding about this country that we didn’t pay attention to.

The story is told by Amir, one of the novel’s main characters. The story starts from the winter of 1975 when Amir was only a child of 12. Amir is a child of noble birth and he has a very rich Baba. He grows up with Hassan, the son of his family’s Hazara servant Ali. They are hand and glove and Amir’s father always reminds them that there is a brotherhood between people who have fed from the same breast—a kinship that not even time could break. However, there was an event happening in the winter of 1975 which changed everything.

Every winter in that period, districts in Kabul held a kite-fighting tournament. In Kabul, who won the kite-fighting tournament and got the last fallen kite of a winter tournament would be bestowed high praise from Afghans. Since Amir always felt his wise and brave Baba blamed him for the death of his mother in the delivery and he preferred Hassan to him, he wanted to try to gain back his Baba’s love through this tournament. Flying a kite was the only thing he was good at in addition to writing and reading. Finally, Amir got the first prize in the tournament, and there is only one thing left—getting the last fallen kite and showing it to Baba. Without hesitation, Hassan ran the kite for him. Unfortunately, Hassan was beaten by Assef, who hatred Hassan since he was a Hazara boy and had tried to beaten him in order to protect Amir. While Hassan was suffering humiliation, Amir was peeking into the alley and not dared to come out boldly. Then, being annoyed by guilt, Amir betrayed Hassan and droved him and his father out of his home.

Five years later, Soviet invaded Afghanistan, Amir and his Baba had to escape from their country to Unite States. In America, Amir had a happy marriage and a great career as a novelist which he had been dreaming of for many years. But it was interrupted by a telephone from Rahim Khan, who was both Amir and Baba’s friend. He told Amir to see him in Pakistan so that he could find the way to be good again. Then, in a small rented room in Pakistan, Rahim told Amir the secret that he and Baba had covered up for many years. Only at that time did Amir realize that Hassan was his half brother and the reason why he always found Baba preferred Hassan to him. The fact was that Baba always felt guilt about Hassan. Though he loved both of his sons, he always avoided to give Amir love since Amir could gain much with his open identity while Hassan had to suffer much with a low status. What’s more, Rahim told him that he knew everything that happened between Amir and Hassan and requested him to rescue Sahrab, the son of Hassan, from the danger after Hassen and his wife’s death. Though under great fear, Amir accepted his requirement and went back to Kabul, which was in the control of Taliban at that time.

There, Amir found Sahrab in Assef’s hand. This time, Amir was not as weak as he was 26 years ago. In order to get Sahrab back, Amir had a fight with Assef. Finally, Amir and Sahrab

escaped from the house due to Sahrab’s slingshot. Because of many unexpected matters, Sahrab became a boy who talked little and never smiled. However, Amir regarded him as his own son and did everything for him. This time, it was Amir said the words, for you, a thousand times over, to Sahrab, which had always been given to him by Hassan.

During the reading, I only regarded Hassan as a loyal servant. Being a Hazara boy, he is always looked upon by others in that grading society. So I took it for granted that he must be loyal to his young master—Amir, if he wanted to make a good living. However, when I read the final chapters of this novel, I was astonished by Hassan’s loyalty. This loyalty is not between master and servant, but between friends. Hassan regards Amir as his best friend and a friend forever, so he does everything for him not matter how Amir treats him. In fact, Hassan can lead a better life without Amir. But when Rahim asked him to look after Amir’s house, he abandoned his comfortable life and returned to work for Baba without any returns. Finally, Hassan and his wife were died at the fight for the house. After finished reading this part, I realized the true meaning of the words—for you, a thousand times over. It is a promise, a kind of selfless dedication and a kind of loyalty to friend. There is no such parts described to move you, but after you finish reading it, you will have an uncontrollable impulse to burst into tears.

I really appreciate Hassan’s loyalty very much. The idea that having a friend who could do everything for you was a wonder thing kept striking me a few days ago. But after a heated discussion about friendship, I find there is no need for me to admire others. If you look into your life, you will find there is a person or a group of persons waiting to do things for you. For you, a thousand times over. Although they have not spoken it out, you should understand that it must have been spoken for a thousand times over in their minds. To respond their love, maybe it is time for you to speak it or do thing for the ones you loved.
