The story of my life, written by Helen Keller, is a brief introduction of the life of a disabled and yet very successful woman. The book mainly talks about how a little girl being unfortunately deprived of her vision and
hearing while she was only 2 miraculously grew up to be a philanthropist, a speaker and an educator.
The moment she realized the disheartening fact that her handicapped situation could possibly be stuck with her for the rest of her life, she was conceivably overwhelmed by upset, helplessness and misery. But with the love of her parents and the unyielding dedication of her teacher Sullivan and other people, she gradually conquered all the obstacles and figured out the happiness of life and finally did whatever she could to enjoy her life as it were and to appreciate all that life has bestowed her.
We may feel how she feels by closing our eyes and covering our ears for a few minutes while we are out amid somewhere. But that’s far less than what the author has suffered. No one could imagine that such a girl should understand several languages including English, German and Latin and obtain her bachelor’s degree from Harford University with excellent academic records. As she was not born blind and deaf, the intoxicating landscape remaining in her mind relentlessly provoked her desire to be able to see and hear again. She wasn’t quite discouraged in
the end, for she could appreciate nature, arts and other beautiful things in the world in her own way.
In the last chapter, she discussed that if she had been given the
opportunity of being able to see for 3 days, she would cherish them by remembering the charm of nature, the look of people she had gained considerably from and those that she should forever be grateful to and other things that had made her life better in someway.
Unfortunately, most people tend to complain about things they don’t have, things that they are not good at and the bad situations they are stuck in. Meanwhile, they are likely to take being loved, possessing
health and other favorable conditions for granted. Personally, no matter what difficulties we confront with, or how much we feel frustrated in the process of our growth,we should always remind ourselves that it’s not the end of the world and we should never give up or abandon ourselves, bearing in mind the conviction that there is always someone loving us, and deserves our love, and, therefore, life is always worth living for.
People tend to cherish more what they’ve lost, yet more often than not we just fail to obtain those opportunities to make them up. Nearly all the college graduates being asked what they would do if they could
repeat their college life will probably respond like “I wish I had done better in academic records, given more satisfying performance in the competitions or activities held on campus, accumulated more working experience or started a splendid campus love…...” But whatever regrets or desires about the past you’ve got with you, you have to let it go, and carry on with your new live, make new friends, face different challenges and embrace new opportunities. Never take anything for granted. Cherish what you have as if they are gonna disappear tomorrow.

My Reading Report on Three Days to See
--- 吴勋
本文用于阅读读后感,需要的同学可以参考
Recently I have read Helen Keller’s autobiography Three Days to See and it touches me deeply. It told me how lucky we are. We should appreciate that we are healthy. Healthiness is riches. When I read this article, compare with Helen Keller, I think we should treasure our life. God has given us sight, so we can see a lot of good things, so we can know how beautiful this world is, so we can know how wonderful we can live in our colorful life.
The book tells Helen Keller’s whole rough life and her sprit experiences. She had only 19 mouths to hear and see. She lost her beautiful voice, and she couldn’t see or hear at all. To her, to own a world like other people was a dream that could never come true.
However, with the help of Anne Sally and some other teachers and her relatives, she had finally conquered unimagined difficulties and graduated from Oxford with excellent performance. She is outstanding achievement, literature, to a blind man, this is really incredible. I read the novel, I feel Helen Keller’s happiness, perhaps she is the world without any color, without any light, no great music, but she is in the world the most abundant light color, the most brilliant beats, cheerful note, because, around friends, with love and hope to fill her world,
She is very unselfish. She contributes all her life to undertakings for disabled people and to soliciting contributions all around in order to improve the disabled living situation and create education opportunities for them. She used to travel around to enlighten and encourage the handicapped. She is a famous educationalist, philanthropist, lecturer.
In the book, Helen, said: "Knowledge gives people with love, give to a bright future, people with wisdom, it should be said that knowledge is happiness.” Indeed, the knowledge has the boundless power. It is the knowledge that Helen has created the miracle! And, I really understand why I should study for a long time.
In her life, she can’t see and hear, but she strongly believes that if given three days to see she will do something as follows:
The first day, she would want to see the people whose kindness and gentleness and companionship had made her life worth living.
The second day, she would arise with the dawn and see the thrilling scenery by which night is transformed into day.
The third day, she will spend in the workday. And where can she find so many activities and conditions of men as in New York? So the city becomes her destination. One philosopher once said: "Bravery exists in spirit not in a strong body" .This is a true describe of Helen. With a strong heart, Helen faces misfortune directly. She is really broken in body but firm in spirit.
As a new generation of college students, we have good living and learning conditions, but we lack of perseverance. Therefore, Three Days to See enlightens me in the following aspects:
Firstly, we must correctly deal with difficulties, because everyone will encounter difficulties in life. When in trouble, we should face up any difficulties bravely.
Secondly, we must try to finish everything. Celebrities once said: "what's not easy? Is not easy to insist on doing what should be done every day. This requires perseverance and requires us to be tough and powerful. And we must do our best in everything every day.
Third, we’d better be optimistic. In front of great combats and difficulties, Helen does not complain, compromise, she holds a positive attitude toward the difficulties and shows great confidence in herself. Thus a good state of mind is one of the important factors of success.
Read the book, I deeply recognize that a person can get achievement, not in the condition quality, but that he ever struggle spirit. I appreciate Helen Keller. Her life is a miracle, she strongly face the difficulties which can destroy one’s mind of living. Her life is a tragedy, but the world in her heart is full of love. Her spirit will encourage all of us.
I believe these can benefit me a lot in future.
