I think everybody must have seen the Harry Potter. Do you remember a smart and beautiful girl? Yes, she’s Hermione. Of course, my topic isn’t about movies or stars; I don’t want the second chance.
Not long ago, Emma Waster, the famous star who played a role in Harry Potter, was appointed as the United Nations goodwill ambassador for women. In September, she took part in a campaign that the UN promoted the gender equality and called “He for She”. She made a wonderful feminist speech. Emma was very nervous and excited. When it comes to the gender issues, Emma said: feminism is not a standard, also is not a dogma, but a choice. If you want to run for president, so you will have a fighting chance; if you want to be civilians, you choose is also worthy of respecting. I’m lucky that I was born in a democratic family. My mother and I can say boldly what we think. And we know that our points will be respected like other bothers.
Fighting for women’s rights has too often become synonymous with man-hating. Feminist has become an unpopular word, and is regard as women whose expressions are seen as to strong, to aggressive, isolating, anti-man and unattractive. In fact, Feminism by definition is: “The belief that men and women should have equal rights and opportunities. It is the theory of the political, economic and social equality of the sexes.
As we all know, women in ancient china have the very low social status, and also are regard as the weak. Three from the four virtues, male superiority to female, and these rotten ideas contaminate many people. These feudal ethics thought, as an invisible shackles and heavy chains, choke the female talent, distorts their mind and will to oppress women. For thousands of years, the weak, has always been synonymous with women. Whose fault is this? Are women really weak? No, this is the product of absurd history. Women are not the weak.
This semester I have an optional course, called gender and society. In that lessens, teacher said, the difference between boys and girls, is just physical difference. And if a girl wants to be a boy, it must overcome the problem of physical. Marx thinks that women play an important role in the history of human society development; they have equal status, personality and dignity with the men. In the 20 century in china, the thought was confirmed. For the development of china and the women’s freedom and peace, many great women even offer the youth and life. For example, Qiu Jin, Deng Yinchao, Song Qingling,. I know, there is still exiting gender inequality in modern society. On the problem of employment, men and women are unfair. However, we have no necessary to be upset. No country in the world can yet say they have achieved gender equality. As a female, Women should realize the value of their existence and should be life meaningfully. We should be self-esteem, self-reliance and self-confidence. If we aren’t self-esteem, our personality status will not be confirmed; if we aren’t self-reliance, we will not be able to achieve the value of us; if we aren’t self-confidence, we will not be able to make outstanding contributions to society. We have our own ideals and goals.
In fact, young men suffer from mental illness that they unable to ask for help for fear it would make them look less “macho”. Many men made fragile and insecure by a distorted sense of what constitutes male success. Men don’t have the benefits of
equality either. Both men and women should feel free to be sensitive. Both men and women should feel free to be strong. We should stop defining each other by what we are not and start defining ourselves by what we are. Only in this way, I believe that man and women will be better and more equal in life.
Finally, I hope you can watch the video that Emma made the speech in the united nation. It’s really inspiring and wonderful. I am impressed with words in that video. In my nervousness for this speech and in my moments of doubt I’ve told myself firmly—if not me, who, if not now, when. If you have similar doubts when opportunities are presented to you I hope those words might be helpful..
