分数与能力

The argument whether high grades indicate high ability has lasted for quite a long time. Until now, people will agree that there is some relation between grades and ability , but no one can make sure whether high grades will lead to high ability or not. Some think that grades can reflect students’ ability in their academic pursuit. The higher their grades, the smarter they must be. Otherwise, the system of matriculating will neglect students’ entrance score and the entrance examination will be abandoned. In the competition for grades, it is hard to be a winner and easy to be a loser. Students with high grades are respected.

On the contrary, other people hold different opinions. They think that high grades don’t necessarily mean superior ability. The so called top students sometimes are very low in solving practical problems such as fixing a machine or installing an appliance. They are often called book –worms. However, the so called low students may show their intelligence in a special field. Han Han is an example. He is a senior high school student who cannot pass the examinations in several subjects. But no now doubts his ability in writing.

In my opinion, grades are really important for most students because admission to good schools and colleges as well as successful application for nice jobs depend on good grades. The school admission officers and potential employers use grades to assess students’ abilities. But grades are not the sole criterion for students’ abilities. Academic advancement should be combined with excellent manifestation in practicality. In short, both the mind and the hands should be developed together, so that we not only know how to do the job, but also can do it with our own hands.

论大学扩招

In recent years, there is a steady increase in college enrollment. To many high-school students, it's definitely good news, for they would have better chance of receiving higher education.

You don't have to look very far to find out the advantages of the increased college enrollment. For one thing, it lessens the worries of both high school graduates and their parents. Besides,increased college enrollment can contribute to raise the educational level of our nation. What's more, increased college enrollment can provide more students with specialized knowledge, thus serving our development in a positive way.

On the other hand, we can not deny that there are some potential problems about increased college enrollment. To begin with, with the increased number of students, the shortage of teaching staff and facilities becomes clearly seen. Worst of all, increased college enrollment leads to increased competition in the job market.

It's not an easy task to tell whether the tendency should be encouraged. As to me, it's laudable to grant more students higher education. But a college degree is by no means a guarantee for a better job or future. To cast a promising career, we need a lot more abilities which we can not learn from college.

帮助他人是否要回报

Lei Feng, a communist soldier, who "devoted his limited life to the limitless cause of serving the people", has long been set as an outstanding example to encourage us to spare no efforts to help those in need, whereas, with the passage of time, people voice different opinions towards

doing good deeds.

Some insists "A good turn deserves another", as the old saying goes, which indicates that a good deed ought to bring about a reward, the motivation or the stimulus for the favor. Meanwhile, others believe good deeds belong to voluntary work, purely out of willingness, which has nothing to do with expectation for rewards.

As to me, good deeds are supposed to result from spontaneous reaction confronted with certain circumstances, ranging from giving up one seat to a silver-haired passenger aboard the bus, donating blood to the designated organization by Red Cross to traveling to the remote and poverty-stricken areas to serve as a volunteer for a whole year. In short, rewards are by no means the trigger or purpose for intention of conducting good deeds, no matter how trivial or stunning they are.

英语六级写作范文

1、 根据上表,简要描述19xx年、19xx年、20xx年某城市人们度假方式的情况及其变化;

2、 请说明发生这些变化的原因;

3、 得出结论。

How People Spend Their Holidays

As is clearly shown in the table that there was a dramatic change in the way people spent their holidays between 1990 and 2000. Especially, in 1990, 63% of people spent their holidays at home, while the figure decreased considerably to 24% in 2000. there are three reasons for this phenomenon.

To begin with, with the development of market-oriented economy, people earn by far more money than they used to, making it possible for them to afford traveling expenses. In addition, people realize the importance of getting well-informed about the outside world in this modern era to develop their potential. For example, a traveller may encounter or talk with someone of a different cultural background so as to broaden his vision. Last but not least, by traveling outside, people are close to nature, which is not only beneficial to both their health and peace of mind. In short, more and more people take the occasion of holiday to travel outside and relax themselves.

As far as I am concerned, I prefer to go traveling instead of staying at home during holidays. On the one hand, I love meeting different people and take in some fresh ideas. On the other hand, it is agreed that the world is becoming a global village. No one could confine himself within his small circle of families or relatives. In brief, I have benefited a lot and will benefit more from traveling during the holidays.

Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a short essay entitled More Candidates for Civil Servant. You should write at least 150 words following the outline given below in Chinese:

1、 现在有越来越多的大学应届毕业生报考公务员,带来了一定的不利因素;

2、 列举两到三个不利因素加以论述;

3、 你对此有何看法。

More Candidates for Civil Servant

Nowadays many college graduates apply for civil servant positions. It is true that the positions are ideal in terms of incomes, employment security and respect of others. However, the ever increasing number of applicants doesn’t necessarily mean a good thing. The fever for civil servant has brought some side effects. The side effects are listed as follows:

Firstly, many students apply for the positions for wrong reasons. Some of them apply just because their friends do it or because their parents want them. Some, instead of aiming at serve the people, have the intention of enjoying the interests and power brought by their future position. Secondly, too many candidates compete for limited positions. Take such hot positions as those in the judicial branch of government for example, it is estimated that one matriculate is selected out of 200 candidates. More worse, with the flow of most talents to such positions, those positions that are important for social welfare but inferior in personal welfare are left uninterested. This should arouse our deep concern.

For my part, college students should be cautious when deciding whether to apply for the positions. On the one hand, they should not follow others blindly. On the other hand, there are plenty of ways of employment and self-employment, so why crowd on one bus? In a word, the fever should be cooled down.

Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a short essay entitled Never Give Up. You should write at least 150 words following the outline given below in Chinese:

1、 人们常说“不要放弃”,这句话的意义何在?

2、 具体论述你对这句话的理解。

Never Give Up

―Never give up‖ is often said by people when they are frustrated or in depression. This phrase means determination and encouragement. In my opinion, the determination to succeed is of great importance. Therefore, I believe that we should never give up.

If we give up too easily, we will rarely achieve anything. It is not unusual for us to fail in our first attempt at something new, so we should not feel discouraged by our failures; instead we should try again. Besides, if we always give up when we fail, we will not be able to develop new skills and grow as we should.

Another reason that we should never give up is because we can learn from our mistakes only if we make a new effort. If we do not try again, the lesson we have learned is of no use.

Finally, as we work to reach our goals, we develop confidence, and this confidence can help us succeed in other areas of life. If we never challenge ourselves, we will begin to doubt our abilities.

In short, it is important that we do not give up when working for our goals. Whether we succeed in the end or not, we will learn something, and what we learn will help us do better in our future work. Furthermore, if we give up, we have no chance of attaining our goals; but if we keep trying, there is always a chance that we will succeed one day.

下图所示为近年中国居民收入和存款增长率的变化,描述其变化并说明原因;对此做出评价。

Incomes and Savings

From the charts we can easily find that incomes in China are increasing, and savings deposits are also increasing. In 1965, the average annual income in China increased at a rate of 6%, and the savings increased 6.5%. in 2005 the numbers soared to 29.5% and 31% respectively.

The possible reasons, I think, may be as follows. First, with the development of the economy, the wealth of our whole nation’s increasing. So this promotes the increase in income and savings. Secondly, people have changed their consumption habits greatly in recent years. For example, many parents now spend a lot on their children’s education, and they have to save money for their children’s higher education. Last but not least, with the increase of income, people have more money to save, which can later be spent on insurance, house payments and other large expenses.

In my opinion, the increase of income and savings is just like a double-edged sword which can benefit the whole nation’s revenue while hindering the economy’s development. The more money is saved in the bank, the less money people spend. To put it briefly, I think China’s government should take some effective measures to encourage consumption to promote the further development of the economy.

2. 发展个性是否意味着忽视中国的传统美德;

Should We still Cherish Chinese Traditional Virtues

Today’s youth do things in their own ways, spend money on whatever they want and talk to people in their own

languages——personality development is overstated by young people these days. To some of them, personality means to be totally different from who their parents used to be.

But the problem is that during their pursuit of their personal goals they ignore some of the traditional virtues of which their ○1forefathers were proud. Take the question of fidelity to elders for example. With better education and different experiences, some young people find it’s hard to agree with their parents any longer. They have a feeling of superiority and even sometimes ○3turn their back on their elder parents.

To me, personality development and traditional virtues have nothing to do with right or wrong. In our society, we need them both. These virtues help you to become a better Chinese, while personality development will improve your own character.

A Letter of Complaint

November 23, 2007

Dear Manager,

Much to my regret, I write this to place a complaint against one of your shop-assistants concerning bad service in the course of our shopping yesterday.

Yesterday at about ten o’clock in the morning, my husband, a lady friend of ours and I, came to your shop with the intention of buying some souvenirs. One of your shop-assistants, whose badge number was 15 if I got it right, was asked to remove the dust from some of the bronze statues in order that our friend might have a good look at these objects before making up her mind to buy. Under such a situation, it was the assistant’s duty either to do what she was asked to do or to explain why she was unable to comply with such a request.

Instead of attending to her duty and acting in a polite manner, the assistant turned a deaf ear to our request and walked away murmuring in a sarcastic manner that our friend was foolish in asking for the removal of the dust. Great was our embarrassment in such an awkward situation.

We ask you to look into this unsatisfactory state of affairs and to take steps to prevent a similar recurrnce of such offensive behavior in future. The lady in question is from New Zealand and it would be a pity if she should form an unfavorable impression of the service in this city.

Yours Respectfully, Zhang Yu

My Choice for Job

A recent survey shows that people who get higher salaries generally work longer hours than those who get

lower salaries. Some people favor higher-paying jobs, even though such jobs always result in longer work time. They believe that money is so indispensable in people’s lives that without it no material comforts or well-being can be guaranteed。

However, others have different preferences. They would rather take up lower-paying jobs with shorter hours. In their eyes, money doesn’t necessarily ensure happiness and well-being. They want to spend more time in doing their likes and getting together with their family and friends。

As for me, I prefer to take up a job with shorter hours even if it pays less. In my opinion, work is not our whole life. We should allocate enough time to our family and friends and have more time to enjoy our life. Besides, we are not machines. We need time to relax and rest so that we could be energetic enough to do our job better。

With the development of information techno1ogy and reduced price of communication products, the mobi1e phone has become a necessity for most people. Obviously, it shortens the distance between people and makes our life more convenient. Thanks to the cell phone, it’s easy for us to contact or be contacted by others anytime and anywhere. We will never miss any important meetings,great deals or admirable opportunities.

However,have you noticed sometimes the cell phone also brings embarrassment to us? It’s not rare to see someone pressing the cell phone to his ear and shouting 1oud1y in public as if there were no one else present. And I’m sure each one has had such an experience that the cell phone ring continuous1y on a formal occasion. The Post-graduate Craze

Each year, millions of college students will sit in for the post-graduate entrance examination. More and more students have regarded the pursuing of a master degree as an indispensable part of their education.

What is to account for their enthusiasm for a post-graduate diploma? First, it is the demand of the time. In an age of knowledge updating and information explosion, what you have learned in college can hardly meet the demand of society. Talents of high quality who are equipped with the latest knowledge and skill will be needed more than ever. That is why many students will further their studies.

Second, we all recognize that the more education you have, the more likely you are to succeed. Compared with those without a master degree, masters will enjoy more preferential treatment, for example, better salaries, more opportunities for promotion and training. A post-graduate degree can guarantee a more promising career.

Last but not least, with the graduation of a large number of college students, competition for jobs becomes more and more fierce. One way to gain some advantage over others is to have a higher degree.

No wonder millions of students will consider pursuing a post-graduate degree.

Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a composition on the topic: My Idea of Pop Music. You should write at least 150 words and base your composition on the outline (given in Chinese) below:

1、 有人认为流行音乐不能登大雅之堂。

2、 有人认为音乐无高低贵贱之分,只有兴趣上的差别。

3、 我认为??

My Idea of Pop Music

Pop music is held I contempt by many people. In these people’s eyes pop music is always in sharp contrast to ―lofty music‖. The latter refers to symphonies and operas of the European countries. They show great concern for the fact that many people prefer pop music to symhonies, because for them pop music should be excluded from the holy palace of music.

Conversely, many people have an ordor for pop music. They argue that people who want us to listen to symhonies are advocating a kind of ―elite culture‖. This notion is unacceptable to pop music fans, for they don’t believe that symphonies are loftier than pop music. The difference only lies in the interests of different people. It is unfair to speak of pop music with contempt while speaking of symphonies with awe.

In conclusion, my idea is that just as there is no distinction between high culture and low culture, so it is inappropriate to say pop music belongs to the ―lower‖ people whereas symphonies in a higher, loftier form of music. After all, there are many badly-composed symphonies. And we can’t expect every piece of pop music to be excellent. Pop music reflects the thoughts and interests of a certain age group of a generation. It is the product of a certain age, but it also has something universal, something that belongs to all human beings, that underlies its great success among people. In this sense it is rather foolish for some peopleof media to show great concern simply because many people prefer pop music. Anyway pop music has become an indispensable part of the human family.

What Should Children Do in Their Spare Time

Nowadays, many parents send their children to various classesin the children’s spare time. These classes can be classified into two categories. First, on school subject, their intention is to reinforce and enrich the children’s knowledge acquired in school by means of more clarification and exercises. Second, classes to cultivate children’s interest, such as classes in English, dancing, etc.

Children’s attending classes in their spare time has become a controversial issue. Those who are for it think that the pratice is good for the long term benefit of children and can enlighten children’s interest, broaden their horizon. Those who are against it hold the view that children have been deprived of their free timeby attending classes they are not interested and thus become mechanical learners, at the price of their own interests.

I think children should have the right to enjoy their childhood, and to play. But certain guidance by parents to attend some classes is necessarysince the parents havereasoning power and experince to raise the children to be prepared for their future with diversified interest and competence. But these classes should be refreshing and be able to attract children’s interest and not too much.

1、汽车给人们的生活提供了诸多便利。

2、然而汽车也给环境,交通等施加了压力。

Private Cars’ Effect on Our Life

Along with the economic growth, private cars have penetrated into a wealth of citizens’ lives because of its convenience features. Undoubtedly, the widespread use of cars promotes the social productivity and enhances the economic development. But we are supposed to weigh strengths and weaknesses of the popularity of cars. With the growing prevalence of vehicles, a host of problems have emerged.

To begin with, car emissions are having an immeasurable effect on the world’s climate. Solid scientific evidence can confirm this harm. Secondly, because the car depends so heavily on fossil fuels, it is a major source of carbon dioxide that causes global warming. Additionally, soaring ownership of cars puts tremendous pressure on the limited capacity of current transport system. There is a heavy urban traffic flow with frequent traffic jam. These harmful side effects of autos burden our society with unacceptable costs to human health, the environment, and our economy.

So we must reverse this rising trend and promote the mass transportation. Our heavy reliance on private cars must be reduced.

Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a composition on the topic: Perseverance. You should write at least 150 words and base your composition on the outline (given in Chinese) below:

1、 有毅力就容易成功。

2、 毅力使人成功的原因是什么。

3、 毅力是必需的特质。

Perseverance

Of all the advantageous characteristics to have, I think that perseverance plays the greatest role in one’s success. Other characteristics, such as intelligence, confidence, and honesty, are no doubt important, but they do not necessarily guarantee success. Perseverance offers no guarantees either, but I believe that this trait offers one more opportunity to succeed.

There are several reasons why perseverance often leads to success. First of all, a man who has perseverance does not give up after a failure. He tries again and can, therefore, learn from his mistakes. Second, a persistent person is usually a hard worker, and hard work is an important ingredient in success. Last, with perseverance comes a certain amount of confidence — the confidence that one will eventually succeed.

For all of these reasons, I believe that perseverance is the most important characteristic to have. It is easily combined with other traits such as diligence and confidence to increase the chances of success. However, without perseverance, one’s success may be more dependent on luck than anything else.

Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a composition on the topic: Learning about Life. You should write at least 150 words and base your composition on the outline (given in Chinese) below:

1、 有人喜欢听取别人的建议而学习。

2、 有人喜欢通过亲身体验而学习。

3、 我的选择。

Learning about Life

As we grow, we learn many things about life. Some of these lessons are easy and some are difficult. Some believe that they can learn best by listening to the advice of others, while others believe that it is better to learn through personal experience.

In the first case, learning by listening to others, we have the benefit of learning from others’ mistakes and are thus being able to avoid them ourselves. Our friends and family will help us make better decisions and avoid costly errors. Furthermore, the people who know us well can advise us effectively because they understand our strengths and weaknesses. At the same time,

they are sometimes able to see situations more objectively than we are.

In the second case, learning through doing, we have the advantage of gaining meaningful experience. We will no doubt better remember the lessons we learn when we enjoy the rewards or suffer the consequences ourselves. Moreover, we can often

develop other skills through personal experience and can learn from our mistakes.

Given a choice between these two ways of learning about life, I would still choose the former. This is because I believe I should take advantage of all the resources available, and the experiences of my family and friends are a valuable resource. For example, if I were preparing to take my first trip abroad on my own, the advice of others who have already experienced such a

trip could only help me. Just as we can learn from history, we can learn from the past actions of those close to us.

Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a composition on the topic: Quick Decisions. You should write at least 150 words and base your composition on the outline (given in Chinese) below:

1、 有人认为仓促决定一定出错,有的人并不这样认为。

2、 我的看法并说出原因。

Quick Decisions

Everyone must make many decisions every day of his life. They range from the trivial — tea or coffee for breakfast — to issues of life-changing importance, such as who to marry. Some people make decisions quickly, while others take as much time as possible to consider all their options. They tend to think that quick decisions are always wrong, but I disagree with this opinion.

As a matter of fact, quick decisions are sometimes the best ones. When faced with a difficult choice, it is often our first instinct that is the best. This is why people are sometimes told to ―go with your gut‖. Moreover, when we think too long about a decision we may become confused. And if we worry too much we may become so anxious that we are unable to make any decision at all. Last but not least, some decisions are simply too trivial to spend any time worrying about. When the consequences of making the ―wrong‖ decision are slight, whether our decision is right or wrong is irrelevant.

For all of these reasons, I cannot agree with the statement that quick decisions are always wrong. Long consideration does not guarantee that the choice we make will be the right one, and sometimes too much deliberation can even lead us astray. Therefore, I believe it is all right to make a quick decision now and then, for it cannot always be wrong.

1、 健康的重要性。

2、 保持健康的方法。

3、 养成保持健康的习惯。

Staying Healthy

There is no denying the importance of health. Without it, it is difficult to live a happy life no matter how much money or success one has. In order to maintain our good health and lead lives that are as fulfilling as possible, it is important to take some steps.

The first step is to keep regular hours and stick to a healthy, balanced diet. This is the basis of good health. Our bodies need sufficient nutrition and rest in order to function well and resist illness. The second step is to get regular exercise. Moderate exercise, such as walking, can have great benefits for our health if done on a regular basis. Third, I suggest seeing a doctor for

an annual checkup. A doctor can often diagnose problems before they become serious enough to be apparent to us. Last but not least, take time to relax and renew your spirits and mental energy every day. This is just as essential as physical exercise because mental state often has a profound influence on our physical health. As the saying goes, ―A sound mind in a sound body.‖

There are many things that we can do to stay healthy. The important thing is to value our health and not neglect it. This means making healthy habits a part of our everyday life. If we simply develop a healthy way of living we are bound to live healthier, more satisfying lives.

1、 森林是最重要的自然资源。

Save the Forests

These days we often talk about the importance of our natural resources. In many countries they are disappearing at a rapid rate and environmentalists are urging people everywhere to protect their air, water, forests, wildlife, and so on. It is difficult to choose just one natural resource to save, but in my opinion, saving the forests should be the top priority.

First of all, forests help to preserve other natural resources such as water, air, and animals. Without forests, the land cannot hold water as well. This means that in a heavy rain hillsides will collapse, causing great damage. Not only that, but without the protection of trees, the nutrient-rich topsoil will be washed away and nothing will be able to grow on the land. Trees also help to clean the air by absorbing carbon dioxide and producing oxygen. And, of course, forests are the natural habitat of many wild animals. Without them, these animals will not be able to survive. Another reason to preserve our forests is that large numbers of trees can help to mitigate the greenhouse effect by absorbing solar radiation. And finally, forests are a place where people can get close to nature, and if they learn to love nature, they will want to preserve all the earth’s natural resources.

All of the earth’s natural resources are important, and we should all work to save them. The reason that I choose the forests as most important is because they help us in so many ways. By saving the forests, I believe we can save the planet.

Keeping Customs

When people move to another country, they not only face a different environment and language, but also different customs. Some people choose to follow the customs of their adopted country, they may find that it helps them to adapt more quickly to the new society. They have something to discuss and share with their new neighbors, and sharing customs is one way for people to feel closer to one another. Thus, following the new customs may help immigrants feel more at home. It may also help them to see the positive things in their new environment and do forget their feelings of homesickness.

On the other hand, some people choose to continue following their own customs may also find that it helps them feel more at home. There are many things to adjust to in another country, and following their traditional customs may help people feel more secure in the new surroundings. More importantly, our customs are a part of us. They are an expression of the culture that has shaped us. This is something that most of us would like to pass down to our children and share with others.

To sum up, our customs have value and are an important part of our culture. Therefore, I don’t believe that we should abandon our traditional customs when we move to another country. At the same time, I believe that we should learn about the customs of our new home and follow those that appeal to us. In this way, we can remember and celebrate our old culture while adapting to our new one.

Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a composition on the topic The Changes of the Percentages of Chinese Professions. You should write at least 150 words, and base your composition on the table and the outline given below:

英语六级写作范文

1、 根据上表,简要描述19xx年与19xx年我国农业、工业和服务业从业人员所占比例的情况及其变化;

2、 请说明发生这些变化的原因;

3、 得出结论。

The Changes of the Percentages of Chinese Professions

It can be seen from the chart that the great changes have occurred in the professional pattern in China between 1980 and 1999 with a great increase in the people involved either in manufacturing or service and a corresponding shrinking in agricultural population. Especially, in 1999, 38% of the Chinese working in the agriculturak industry, decreased nearly half to that of 1980 while the number of people engaged in service industry quadrupled that of 1980. Why are there such great changes during 20 years?

In my opinion, three possible reasons contribute to it. First of all, with the development of primitive economy, more people will move over into manufacturing and the service industries. Secondly, China’s open-door and economic reform policies realize more efficient and effective farming and increased urbanization. For example, with the development of what is called the village and township enterprises, a great number of farmers are now working in various small business without living their homes, which accounts mainly for the increase in manufacturing population. Finally, the economic policies result in an immense improvement in the Chinese people’s living standard, which creates a great huge demand for service and thus enable the service industries to flourish and absorbs more and more people into these fields.

As far as the effect is concerned, the changes of the percentages of Chinese professions will have far-reaching significance. On the one hand, these changes signify the great achievements China has made since she launched the economic reform and opened her door to the world. On the other hand, they also mark a great leap foward on her way towards an economic power in the world. In a word, both the nation’s development and her people’s living standard will get more and more benefit from these changes.

Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a composition on the topic The Decline in Technical Secondary Schools. You should write at least 150 words, and base your composition on the table and the outline given below:

英语六级写作范文

1、 上图是1999~20xx年我国中等专业学校发展图表,描述其变化;

2、 简略说明产生这些变化的原因。

The Decline in Technical Secondary Schools

According to the above statistics, the number of students attending technical secondary schools is decreasing. As a result, more and more technical secondary schools have closed down, which has raised great public concern.

There are several reasons that contribute to the decline of enrollment in these schools. First, with the reform of the national educational system, colleges and high schools are enrolling an increasing number of students, resulting in intensified

competition for technical secondary schools. Secondly, the requirement for technicians are becoming more and more demanding, while many of these schools have failed to meet the increased requirements and lost their attraction to young people. Thirdly, most people don’t respect these schools and play down their importance.

However, this decline will come to an end in the near future and technical secondary education will thrive once again because our society is in great need of workers with considerable technical skills for economic development. At the same time, through years of struggle for existence, these schools have learned to adapt themselves to the changing situation, orient their curriculums towards the demands of the market and provide necessary instruction for their graduates. In addition, the government considers technical secondary education to be important, and these schools will enjoy stronger support from the government.

1、 快餐在中国十分流行,它是现代快节奏社会的最佳反应,并分析快餐受欢迎的原因;

2、 然而,从营养角度来讲,快餐却差强人意;

3、 对快餐还是以偶尔品尝为宜。

Fast Food

In present-day China, fast food is so popular, especially among children and teenagers, that it can be seen in every big and medium-sized city. It’s even difficult to think of any other single thing that represents the fast pace of modern society in the way that fast food does. Some people think it is very convenient and saves a lot of time. The trends of modern society seem to all point to one ultimate goal—saving time, and fast food well serves this purpose. In their opinions, its popularity is also attributed to the restaurants’ clean and cozy environment, excellent service, and guaranteed quality of food and drinks.

However, others maintain that fast food is usually low in nutrition and can’t be regarded as a balanced diet. For example, doctors suggest that people, especially children, eat fast food as little as possible. Besides, although cooking at home is time-consuming and the following washing-up tiresome, it offers healthy and delicious meals your body needs and likes.

As far as I’m concerned, fast food is not my best choice. For one thing, I prefer traditional spicy Chinese food. For another, being engaged in the work all day, I may spend one or two hours to prepare my favorite dishes to ensure myself a nice rest. As a result, fast food is only a good choice when I am in a hurry and resort to it once in a while.

Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a short essay entitled Should We Worship Celebrities? You should write at least 150 words following the outline given below in Chinese:

1、 我们是否应当崇拜名人?明确阐述你的观点;

2、 从正反两方面具体论述你的观点。

Should We Worship Celebrities?

Celebrities have excelled in their respective fields and made a place for themselves in the society. Actors, athletes, rock

stars and even politicians whom we look up to are all celebrities. However, achievement in careers does not necessarily make celebrities idols to be worshipped blindly, as they think and make mistakes too as we common people do.

Having a role model is of no harm, but we should not imitate everything we hear about the celebrities without any judgment. Learn from the celebrities with our minds open; do not let their persona overshadow our judgment. We should remember that however extraordinary these people are, they are also ordinary huamn beings and liable to make mistakes or even very bad decisions at some point of their life. For example, a number of athletes and rock stars have been associated with drugs. It is for us to decide what we should imbibe from them and what not.

Meanwhile, though the celebrities are at the zenith of their professions, it is not always necessary that they are as good in their personal life. We should let their actions speak for them. What they do in real life is more important than what they preach. An ordinary man on the street, though unknown to the public, may be a better person than they are.

In conclusion, we should keep ourselves open to others’ opinions, but at the same time decide by ourselves what is right.

Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a short essay entitled The Function of an MP3 Player. You should write at least 150 words following the outline given below in Chinese:

1、 介绍MP3播放器的用途并举例;

2、 指出MP3播放器的不利影响。

The Function of an MP3 Player

An MP3 player, which is one of the most popular electronic devices, is widely used nowadays due to its multifunction.

Basically, an MP3 player can download or transfer a significant amount of music of your favorites. The attached devices are easy to use, making it simple to transfer music files to and from your computer and the player.

With built-in voice recorder, most MP3 players can record sounds and voices. A reporter can use it to record interviews instead of the old, inconvenient way of writing them in a notebook. With its functions of recording and repeating, students can use it to learn foreign languages, improving their listening ability, recording their own voice to improve pronunciation.

An MP3 player can also be used as a removable USB disk. Its data storage function allows you to safely store important documents.

Except for its wide use, the MP3 player has its negative effect. Your hearing can be seriously harmed if you listen to an MP3 with the volume too high. Sometimes you may violate other person’s privacy if the recording function of your MP3 player is improperly used. So use it in the right way, and it will does you good.

Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a composition on the topic: Knowledge and Diploma (Fake Diploma). You should write at least 150 words and base your composition on the outline (given in Chinese) below:

(1) 目前,在社会上有这样的一种说法,文凭越高越吃香;

(2) 而有些人则认为文凭不等于知识;

(3) 你的观点。

Knowledge and Diploma (Fake Diploma)

With the development of the society, more and more people enroll in the postgraduate examination for getting a high diploma. It is believed that high diploma equals to high ability and profound knowledge. Most companies are inclined to hire the people with high diploma. It seems that having high diploma means a better future.

However, is it really true that high diploma equals to high ability or profound knowledge? Some people do not agree on this kind of idea. They claim that ability or knowledge means more than diploma. Take Bill Gates, the head of the Microsoft, for example, he does not have a MBA degree which is believed to play a vital role in the success in commercial life.

Furthermore, Sam Walton of Wal-Mart Stores Inc. does not a MBA degree, but they are the most successful man in commercial.

In my opinion, diploma does not equal to knowledge. A diploma is a piece of paper which establishes your education degree. But your true ability and the real knowledge come from your hard work and endowment. If you got a diploma by dishonest behavior, no matter how high a diploma it is, it was just a piece of paper, and you were as blank as that paper.

1. 目前网络教育形成热潮。

2. 我认为这股热潮的原因是.....

3. 我对网络教育的评价。

Online Education

Recently an online activity has become very ―in‖. That is online education. 68 online education colleges have been established in the past decade in our country.

Why could online education be so popular in such a short time? Among other reasons, the quick development of internet should be an essential one, which makes all our dreams of attending class in a distance possible. Another underlying reason is the quick development of both society and technology. Today, modern science and technology is developing with lightning speed. To catch up with this development we all feel an urgent and strong desire to study. While on the other hand, due to the great pace of modern society, most people are too busy to study full time at school. Online education just comes to their aids.

Personally, I appreciate this new form of education. It’s indeed a helpful complement to the traditional educational means. It can provide different learners with more flexible and versatile ways to learn. Most of all, with online education, we can stick to our jobs and at the same time study and absorb the latest knowledge.

Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a composition on the topic: Young Generation Lacking of Striving Spirit. You should write at least 150 words and base your composition on the outline (given in Chinese) below:

1. 社会上不少人认为,现在的青年学生拼搏精神不够

2. 对此你的看法是?.

Young Generation Lacking of Striving Spirit

It is now said that the young generation is lacking of striving spirit. As I see it, this phenomenon is truly footed in fact. They are easy to give up and always turn a pessimistic attitude to failure. But why does it happen?

First of all, I have a sense that it is the living condition that matters. Born in the 1980s, most of us are the only child in the family living in the green house, we receive endless care like flowers. It is the love from our parents that set us away from the real world. As this goes on, when we step into the society one day, we cannot get accustomed to the fierce and competitive social life.

What's more, with a negative attitude, many young people are easy to be tired with everything. When coming across with a sticky problem, they are willing to stay behind rather than have a crack. Perhaps the so-called sloth has claimed them for its own.

The last but not the least, nowadays, the competition in the society is fiercer than we could imagine. In order to survive, the young people have to struggle under burden of study and work. Be adapted to the press and failure, the young people lose their self-confidence and self-esteem little by little, not to mention about the striving spirit.

1,有些人为了赢下比赛不择手段

2,你对运动精神的看法

On Sportsmanship

It seems in our sports today, the concept of good sportsmanship has been lost. While winning at all costs may be promoted in professional sports, this does not mean it is the proper way for athletes to behave.

Whether we like it or not, sportsmanship in sports is a direct reflection of our own ethics in real life. Sportsmanship like ethics concerns both the character and the actions of an athlete. The image you project as an athlete is a product of your character. Good sportsmanship is not just what you do on the field, it is hopefully the way you conduct your life both on and off the field. Unsportsmanlike behaviour—acts that are unfair, dishonest, disrespectful or against the rules—are unsportsmanlike because they are unethical. If you are unethical in sports, can you be ethical in the other areas of your life—your business dealings, your treatment of others, your family?
