My hometown is a small-sized coastal city in the north of China, therefore, the best part of it is that people can lead a slow-paced life and enjoy tasty seafood. People there don’t need to suffer from heavy traffic in the rush hour, because most of them can go to work on foot or by bicycle

11) Do you know much about the history of your hometown?

Yes, my hometown used to be a small village several decades ago, however, it’s a modern commercial city famous for shoe factories and button factories.

12) What do you think needs to change in your hometown?

The environment should be changed. Water pollution is a big issue in my hometown.

14) What form of transport do you prefer to use in your hometown?

I prefer to use a bicycle since my hometown is not as big as Shanghai. The another reason is that we have a few buses and no subways.

People in my hometown are quite into playing cards and mahjong in their spare time. I wish they could do more sports.

16) Would you say it's a good place to grow up (in)?

No, I don’t think it’s a suitable place for children to grow up. Generally speaking, the academic atmosphere is not as good as that in some big cities.

17) Do you plan to live there/here for a long time?

Yes, I plan to live there for a long time, because my parents are there. I’m the only one child in my family, so I‘ll be responsible for taking care of them in the future.

青岛范例：Eg1. Well，I come from Qingdao. Situated in the south part of Shandong Province, Qingdao is an incredibly beautiful seaside city with many moods and faces. Notes:

重要表达：坐落在山东省南部/ 美丽的海滨城市/ 美不胜收

特别注意1：回答要简练，顺序可随意排列，但要有层次感，避免东拉西扯.

即墨范例：

Eg2. I am from Jimo, is a medium-sized city, located in the south part of Shandong Province，close to Qingdao. You may not have heard of it, but it used to be the ancient battlefield in the warring states period. It is also known as a tourist city due to its abundant outdoor hot springs.

Eg3. I am from Beijing. With a long history, Beijing is a huge international metropolitan city, suited in the northern part of China. Actually, it’s the capital of China for hundreds of years.

1）解题思路：（5层）家乡北京——历史悠久——国际都会——地理位置——首都.

2）重要表达：历史悠久/ 国际大都会/ 位于中国北方

3）相关练习：尝试参考北京描述一下上海、武汉、南京等其他的大城市.

2）What part of the city do you live in?

市区范例

Eg1. I lived in the downtown area, in a flat overlooking a busy road. It is a bit noisy and crowded, but it is very convenient，and there are various opportunities for more jobs and better educations.

郊区范例

Eg2. I lived in the suburbs in quite a large townhouse with a beautiful garden, but I work in the downtown area, so I have to commute to and from work every day.

Notes:

1）解题思路：a.住在市区的好处是方便和机会多多，坏处是拥挤和吵闹；b.住在郊区好处是住房面积大，但往返工作不便

2）特别注意：commute是一个典型的地道的英国词汇，给英国考官一种回家的感觉，很专业；当然使用drive替代也很好.

2）特别注意：在西方人眼里住在城郊大屋（townhouse）的人往往是有钱人,如果我们请他有时间到我们家去做客(visiting our family)；如果你显得很有钱（seem to be rich），外国人有时也高看你一眼，愿意和你攀关系（building up networks），因为很多外国人也是势利眼（red eyes）喜欢高攀（getting powerful friends in higher places），拿高分就不用说了（not to mention the high score）.

There are also many retail shops on the street.

Eg2. At the central heart of the Qingdao city, Taidong is a fairly prosperous business street. A walk to from end to end would probably take you about 30 minutes and that’s only without looking at any shops. TaiDong is also home to many great supermarkets such as Liqun-mart and Wall-mart and franchise shops such as Jeans West、Banelo. And the each side of street is full of food stalls and grocery stalls. If you are not quite impressive yet, I am sure you will be when night falls. In the evening, when TaiDong Street turns on its ever-changing neon advertising lights and large outdoor TV screen, it makes the street the most impressive place to be. Indeed it is a paradise to thousands of young men and lovers.

I’m telling ya, I don’t think there are many people, if there is any, could resist the temptation of the tasty Beijing duck. You know the duck skin is crisp and the meat is tender. A highly experienced chef could produce the all-duck banquet. I strongly recommend you to go to Quanjude Restaurant with over a century’s history if you want to try the typical one. It’s really brilliant.

Eg2. Well, talking about the typical local food in my hometown, I am sure you will be dazzled by hundreds of exquisite seafood such as shark fins、sea cucumbers、abalones、crabs、prawns, of course different fishes as well. They can never fail to make your mouth water. The rich Chinese tend to serve disguised guests at fancy seafood restaurants. I strongly recommend you to try the seafood in Haitian Hotel on HK Road when you visit Qingdao next time. You know, savoring the yummy seafood、listening to the exotic music while enjoying the panoramic sea view on the French-touch balcony of the top floor. The feeling is awesome.

Eg1.Well, I think Laoshan Mountain is one of the most famous attractions in my hometown. The scenery there is pretty spectacular and breath-taking. Lakes and waterfalls are spilling down from mountainside in the so called BeiJiushui park，the Northern Nine Water. Ever changing color of leaves are making trees there smashing. It is also the home to millions of birds and animals.

Eg1. Well, speaking of this question, the first thing which jumps into my mind is the weather in summer. You know the red-lapped tides, the emerald-like green trees, the deep blue sea, the clear blue sky. I love the time when I am swimming like a fish and get intoxicated into the lovely sea breeze.

反感之处

Eg2. Well, talking about the things I don’t like about the hometown, I think the first thing which pops into my head is overpopulation. Anther thing which jumps into my mind is traffic jam. One more thing that I think of is pollutions of all kinds.

Eg1: Yes, we have a great many customs here. Let me tell you sth about the lucky money in the New Year’s Eve. Unlike the other part of China, in my hometown, the unmarried adults and the children can get the lucky money or the so-called Red Packet given by other elder family members. It is believed that the lucky money will bring them good luck in the coming next year.
