Unit One
1. Would you please tell me some of your best memories in the past semester?
Yeah, that’s amazing. These memories are more than dramatic. My initial plan was continuing my study in Peking. However, the fate distributed me to Shanghai instead. You know, Shanghai is the largest city in China. So, sometimes I feel lonely and feel myself so invisible when I walk through the crowds or wander through the skyscrapers. But fortunately, I met them, my roommates. We eat together, learn together , travel together. Though we came from different places, we are like a family. And one more thing that makes me feel pleased is that our campus is so beautiful. There are a lot of old buildings, high trees, and peaceful paths. All of them make it a wonderful environment for study. The most important thing is that in the past semester, I learned a lot of practical knowledge, like program writing , experiment analysis and so on. These will provide me with better chance to find a good job. Anyway, the past half year is extraordinary for me and I learned a lot.
2. As graduates who are getting more and more mature and rational, what kind of outlook on life and the world shall we adopt?
In the past 20 years, I lived in the world of my own, just like everything turned around me. I took less care of the inner thoughts of our parents. I thought I was my parents’ good boy, but actually, I do nothing for them. I keep asking them for something but give them nothing. They always stand by my side without any word or complaint. Now, I have grown up, and they have grown old. As a graduate, as an adult, I’m 24 years old now, I wanna give my parents more. I try giving them a call everyday and tell them something about my life and study. I will send them little gifts. I will pay attention to their needs. Just like most people born in our generation, I have no brothers or sisters, so I know I play an important role in my parents’ life. Maybe that’s my responsibility, I must give them a happy life.

3. Nowadays fewer and fewer people are willing to pursue the career of teaching. What are the causes of this phenomenon? When you graduate, would you like to be a teacher?
It's a very common phenomenon in China. Nowadays, a lot of people have a strong will to pursue a civil servant but few of them wanna be a teacher. On one hand, the salary is lower than any other civil servant job. The low salary can just meet the standard life needs. On the other hand, the workload is pretty high. Teachers need to spare no effort on students. So they have less time to care their own family. The pressure make them feel tired. For myself, I really hope I could be a teacher one day. Because I like children and I wanna communicate with more young people. Therefore, I will feel myself is full of energy. To tell the truth, I also care the salary level. But I prefer to chase my interest, rather than the money. I believe that I will keep a good balance between my own life and teaching life. That’s amazing life.
4. Please list three factors which may influence your choice of an ideal job and explain why the three factors top your list.
First of all, interest. It’s better that if I find a job, I’m interested in it. Otherwise I will easily feel tired for long working hours. You know, interest is the best teacher. I will be more happy and won’t feel tired to do something I’m interested in. If something I work is dull, I think I won’t insist on doing it. Secondly, salary. Low salary will not satisfy one’s daily needs. I need enough money to live better. I need to buy a apartment. I need to marry. I need to feed a baby. All things cannot run without money. Thirdly, the prospect of the company. I hope that the company I choose has a better prospect so that I can get a better chance of promotion. Besides, I hope I can learn more technology and something about business from the company so that I can promote my working ability.

5. What are the necessary qualities for building better human relations?
First of all, honesty. The foundation of harmony for human being, I think, is honesty. Unless we are honest to our friends, our friends will be honest to us. I trust you, you trust me. So you won’t see cheating things in our world. Secondly, responsibility. Young people need to have responsibility no matter in campus or society. We are obliged to be responsible for what we've said or done. A man who have responsibility is really a man and people always like him. Thirdly, humor. Humor is a bridge of the friends' communication. So I can know you easily and you know me easily, too. The humor can make a harmonious atmosphere when we talk about something. A humorous guy will find a easy way to communicate with others.
6. Do you think too much love from one's parents could probably become a heavy burden on one's mind？Why/Why not?
To some extend, too much love from parents do give children some burden. The more they give us, the more pressure we will get. For example, many parents insist on taking their children to the after-class lessons like mathematics, English, art, music and so on. They do this for fear of not catching up with others. These lessons greatly cut down their leisure time. They need to learn different kinds of subjects and they have no time to enjoy their childhood. Also, parents don't let children do the things that they are interested in in order to make them focus on study. It really influence the development of their characteristic. But, anyway, all things they do is because they love us. We should not complain about these and we should think in parents’ perspective.

7. Do you prefer online shopping or in-store shopping? What are the pros and cons of
online shopping and in-store shopping?
I prefer on-line shopping. There are some pros and cons for both online and in-store shopping. Pros:
1. On-line shopping allows you to avoid those holiday mall crowds and checkout lines. Drive to stores and find that parking wastes more expensive fuels.
2. It is also available to save more time.
3. Shopping online allows you to compare products and prices between retailers with a couple clicks of the mouse.
Cons:
1．On the other hand, there are often shipping and handling fees associated with online shopping that don’t come with in-store purchases.
2．There’s always a delay in receiving your purchases.
3．You can’t personally examine the product you are buying like you can in-store. This is especially important with clothing and footwear.
8. For a graduate student, what do you think is the main importance of the internet? I think the most importance of the internet is that it can help us improve our ability to learn independently. During the graduate period, we always need to study by ourselves.We need the internet to find out what we want, it is very convenient. For example, when I want to find a document, do not have to go to the library, directly on the internet to find it. Besides,our society is filled with all kinds of information nowadays. The development of internet and computer technology make a far-reaching influence on the information spreading. So we can know the society and employment situation through the internet. And then we know what we need to improve our skills so that we can get a good job when we graduate.
Unit Ten
9. In your opinion, we work to live or live to work? We know that we have to work almost every day in our life, so we have to think that we work to live or live to work. Why we are alive? From the day we are born, we know that our parents give us life, there are lots of responsibilities we have to take, so we work hard to have a better life, only in this way can we have a better development in the future, we may build a family, we may have a baby, our relatives rely on us. It's likely that responsibilities will be our motivation to work. On this condition, we lived extremely happily and just take work as an entertainment. From what have been mentioned above, I just want to say, I work to live. Personally, each view is right, as long as people will have a better life in the future.
10. For young people, do you think what factors may lead to their overwork? Is it
possible for them to balance work and life?
Nowadays people attach importance to houses and cars,Crazy working reluctantly seems to be normal in today’s society. We often see our friends or colleagues often stay up late to work overtime until 2 or 3 o’clock a.m. we often see them look dreadful because of enormous physical and psychological pressure. Now some of us are facing the problem of hunting ideal jobs. Some said they would choose to work in first tier cities like Beijing or shanghai or Guangzhou, and then they would go back to their hometown or some second tier cities. It seems reasonable that we plan to go all out in work for one or two years when we are young. But whether our plan will be carried out smoothly or not depends on our own wisdom.
Why we have less freedom with more with more and more material abundance? Of course we can ignore this problem and live our own life. but in the fast-tempo society people would be like the worker ,acted by comedian Chaplin in Modern Times, who kept turning the screw and everything like screw until he was completely exhausted did he stopped.
Maybe most people have a work,but only a little part of people have a satisfying work.Therefore,in order to find a balance in life and work,we can work carefully and efficient,then finish the tasks on time. After work everyday,we should spend more time
with family,eat together,go out for a work or waching TV together and so on.Only in this way can we not keep the bad relationship with family members because of work.What’s more,we can also use the vacation days to go to travel with family,friends or colleagues.So,on the one hand,we can relaxing ourselves from the nervous work.And on the other hand,we can get along well with others and keep the balance between work and life.In a word,we have to work,but we should enjoy work,even the enjoyment that work boring to us.

11. Western writers and scholars from the 19th century onwards commonly attributed the
following four inventions to China，i.e. paper making, printing, the compass and gunpowder. What kind of role do these Chinese four great inventions play in world civilization?
The “Four Great Inventions” have made fabulous contributions to world civilization.
Great inventions in the human's civilization of the important position lead China to become one of the symbols of ancient civilization. Paper-making has a far-reaching influence on the world culture, which has promoted the spread and reservation of history. Gunpowder is helpful to the development of mining industry. The invention of compass is a great tool when Zhenghe and other western sailors navigate the ocean. Printing has greatly enhanced the efficiency of information spreading, which has benefited the revolution in Europe.
12. What do you think is the greatest invention in this century? And explain why.
I think the greatest invention in this century is the smart-phone. You can hear of the two bands , APPLE and SANSUNG. In 2007, Apple introduced the iPhone, which instantly became one of the most hot consumer products ever. Nowadays we can see every person got a cell phone in their hands. Cell phone was no longer a tool just for sending short massages or making cell phone calls, because the smart-phone have changed things considerably. In other words, we can say this is an smart-phone time. For example, the iPhone was such a best-seller, it was sold out almost everywhere for many weeks, and still continues to be essentially the most preferred cellphones on the market. Our lifestyle has been altered greatly with the help of smart-phone, and it makes our work a lot easier.
