Philosophical Toughts from Socrates
Socrates, a person who was born in 496 BC. at Athens, ancient Greece and died in 399 BC.He is one of the greatest ancient Greece philosophers and famous educators.His philosophical thoughts have benefited people from the past up to present.The main thoughts include four points.
The first point is that people need to emphasis logos and deny the absolute authority.However, people also ought to know we should not seek fame and wealth excessively and we must attache great importance to the moral.This point came from the age when Socrates lived in, a society whose morality is bankrupt and politics is unstable.These events made Socrates think about how to rescue the society and put forward this point.
The second point tells us that people should understand oneself.It was the first time that the concept of the self has been put forward in philosophy.The point educates people that they have the duty to improve the quality of their life by understanding themselves.Bsides,it promotes social progress greatly and liberate people’s thinking.
Virtue is knowledge is his third point. Socrates advocated good moral, his thoughts of ethics is "virtue is knowledge", Socrates emphasized the importance of knowledge that people must have the knowledge to achieve the good.Ignorance is the primary source of all evil. And he insisted that the morality and knowledge should unit as one because he
thought that moral behavior must be based on knowledge. Knowledge is the highest understanding of the concept of "good",just as good health, wealth, position, honor, justice, and brave virtue.
In addition to the above points,his fourth point means the free of thought is important.People need calm and logos,but it does not signify people must abandon the free of thought.Only if everyone has a free heart and thought, people may change the world and find out what people want to know.
The four points are the main ideas of Socrates.In conclusion,as a great thinker and philosopher,his philosophical thoughts guided people to learn the world more correct. And In addition he made philosophy a real system to research people and society.
