培根在《论读书》中告诉我们：读书可以作为消遣，可以作为装饰，更重要的是可以增长才干。读书对于人的性格养成有很大关系，“知识能塑造人的性格。” 读书应该贯穿人的一生，开启心智，充实人生，提升品性，丰富情感。

“读书可以提升精神生命，使人生放出光彩。”全国许多著名的老师魏书生、史建筑等，起点并不是很高，甚至比不上我们，可是读书却成就了他们的事业，勤于动笔使他们文采飞扬。可是反观我自己，也不是不要求上进的人，可是每天的时间被工作任务和家庭琐事所挤占，再加上职称评上，教学工作领导也比较满意，这就成了我没有时间读书的理由，心安理得。名师之所以成为名师，无一不是他们具有丰富而深沉的文化底蕴，有底蕴才有课堂上的灵气。真正热爱教师这个职业的人，是不允许自己只在原有知识水平上，作低质量的重复。我们作为与书本打交道的教师，如果没有一个良好的读书习惯，不能适时更新和充实知识，就犹如电池不能充电一样，必然会出现可怕的透支。
