We all know Tagore.This famous Indian poet once said, “Life is given to us, and we earn it by giving it.” As the saying goes, nature is given to us, and we earn it by contributing to it. However, most people nowadays just want to ask for more from the nature. In fact, they do very little contribution to the nature. Therefore, the environment around us is becoming worse and worse.

Do you often use batteries? Then do you know it takes 50 times more energy to make them than they produce? And just one simple battery can pollute as much water as a person can drink in his whole life. The facts and figures are amazing. So would you please try to use batteries only when it is necessary? If possible, give the used ones to the recycling companies so that they will be made into new ones and won’t be able to pollute the environment any more. Sometimes we become complacent when it comes to recycling, but when you speak in terms of actual facts and figures that everybody can understand, people become much clearer about the problem.

Hello, everyone! The topic of my speech is “Environmental Protection”.

At first, I would like to ask you a simple question, “Who are we?” Some people may proudly answer, “we are the masters of nature”. It is true that man has always been acting like a master and doing whatever he wants. The world population is rising so quickly that the world has become too crowded. We are using up our natural resources and at the same time polluting our environment with dangerous chemicals. A large number of trees have been cut down each year. These are only a few examples of what we have done to the environment.

However, now we are faced with problems that are out of control. The green house effect leaves islands and cities along the coast in danger; the diseases caused by pollution are increasing at a fast speed... Facing all these problems, we now realize that we are not the masters of nature. If we continue to do this, life on earth cannot survive anymore.

When I see my classroom is clean, I feel happy. When I see my home is beautiful, I feel comfortable. We all love blue sky, white clouds, warm wind, fresh air and clear river.

But where is the blue sky? Where are the white clouds? Where are the green hills? Where is the clean river?

They are all gone.

Why?

Because our mother earth is ill. Our mother earth is getting more and more unhealthy.

People cut down trees to make modern buildings, factories pour waste water into rivers and so on.

If we stop pollution, if we protect our mother earth today, it will be more beautiful tomorrow.

How I wish I could see blue sky, white clouds, green hills and clean water again.

No matter where we live, we should do something around us. Love our mother earth. Save our mother earth.
