“人们数不清她的屋顶上有多少轮皎洁的明月，也数不清她的墙壁之后那一千个灿烂的太阳。” 对于他人的评论，‘关于不可宽恕的时代，不可能的友谊以及不可毁灭的爱’，我想，那个时代大概是可以饶恕的，那段友谊，大概是必然的，唯有对爱的评论，我举起右手赞同。它穿越那么近又那么远的时光，穿越纷飞的战火，穿越充满着丑恶与污秽空气的街道，一尘不染，静静地存在着，以一种不可毁灭的姿态存在着。
两个不同的时代以一种诡异的逻辑重叠，玛丽雅姆，莱拉，两种苦难，两份心酸，终于在那张带有裂缝的浅绿色的皮沙发前相见。从水火不容到相濡以沫，两人之间的羁绊在一切不合理中变得越来越深：拥有共同的丈夫，却仿佛是灵魂相交的母女。记忆中的苦难，让她们抛弃不理解重新认识彼此，苦难与辛酸解开了彼此心中看似解不开的结。
怨恨，嫉妒，所有将两人划成两个世界的障碍在莱拉为玛丽雅姆拦下拉希德的皮带的一瞬间从根本上土崩瓦解。深谙自己的苦难，莱拉像是在不幸中的挣扎的天使，即使自己的羽翼污浊不堪，即使失去了扇动翅膀的力气，但她手中还有一束光。
于是在无数的混乱中，她还是设法展开了救赎。
坚强又勇敢，她身上完美契合着反抗与忍耐。她学会接受，却不忘记自己有拒绝的权利；她有刻骨的怨恨，人性的美好却不曾泯灭。对于十几岁的她来说，待在那个六十几岁丈夫身边的每一天，都是一场战争。煎熬的日子不会抹去莱拉心中塔里克的模样，不会磨蚀她对于幸福的追求，即使无依无靠，即使力量微薄，可她不妥协，她拒绝妥协。
在无数个日夜的斗争中，莱拉，这个挣扎的天使成为了别人不幸中的一道光，自己的灰暗的心也住进了一千个灿烂的太阳。
玛丽雅姆大概忘记了那条赫拉特到古尔德曼村主干道的分岔路，忘记了齐膝的杂草，还点缀
着白色和鲜黄色的花朵，忘记了那片平坦的田地，那儿生长着的挺拔的白杨和胡杨，忘记了从沙菲德山脉奔流而下的那条山溪，其中数不清的鲑鱼，围成圆形的垂柳。她忘记了这一切，自从那天从浴室走出来，吸入第一口冷空气之后，自从她将她的孩子混在香皂水和陌生人身体的污垢之中冲下公共浴室的下水道之后。她失去了她的丈夫，那个她本来确信自己从他身上会得到作为一个哈拉米所不能得到的幸福的人。
并且在莱拉到来之后，她以为自己，再一次，更彻底地失去了他。
但是，作为补偿，玛丽雅姆得到了爱。“两朵新的花朵始料未及地在她的生命中生长出来”。 拥有也付出了难以毁灭的爱，尽管人生大部分日子都过得不好，尽管惧怕死亡，但玛丽雅姆在走完人生最后的二十几步路的时候，心中没有懊悔，反而重返安宁，她容恕了一切，包括那个难以接受的自己，那盘从没有机会在她面前播放的《木偶奇遇记》，还有当莱拉按下播放键的一刻，铺满整个画面的扎里勒的忏悔。
胡塞尼的文字里，温暖永远是多于黑暗的，他揭露人性的残忍，却始终相信爱的力量。经历无数艰难，遭受无数打击，所一切都将归于平淡，就像是布莱克的那句诗“手掌里盛住无限，一刹那便是永劫。“爱抚平了伤口，黑暗里的人们终究还是发现了光，苦难暂时又局限，而爱，无限而永恒。
