Jan · Austin, a British female writer of fiction, is a beautiful, talented middle class woman with extraordinary temperament and good cultivation. She has lots of famous works in her lifetime and one of the most representative works is Pride and Prejudice. The novel mainly talks about the virtuous and emotional entanglements among the single young Darcy and the second Miss. Elizabeth, and the wealthy single Bingley and the eldest Miss. Jane. The most important love story naturally happens between Elizabeth and Darcy.
When I first read this story, I did a lot of work, such as knew something about the writer, understood the background of this novel and so on. It is actually a novel not only attract readers, but also have a great impact on the history of British literature.
By showing us the love between Darcy and Elizabeth, Jane Austen has completely researched and discussed about the issue of women’s circumstance and social status. She proposed and insisted that women should fight for their independent dignity and equal rights. In her fiction irony is one of characteristics we can find traces everywhere. She has vividly described four different kinds of loves and marriages by skillfully using irony and his witty and humorous language.
What impressed me most is the personality of Elizabeth. In this novel, Elizabeth is a brave and wise woman, who is dared to challenge the noble young Darcy and show the contempt of family status. It also reflects that women want to gain respect, stability and social status. By showing the initial misunderstandings and later mutual understanding between Elizabeth Bennet and Darcy, It gave a vivid expression of the reactionary and traditional country life in Britain and people’s minds during 18th centuries and 19th centuries to us.
For me, the views on love and marriage only by appreciating the marriage founded on the basis of mutual understanding and true love. The marriage based on social position and money can’t bring happy life.
