Giving up for Love
-------Review on Being Jane
Being Jane is a film,or more like a biography of Jane Austen, which mainly introduced the emotional life of Jane.
Jane was born in a reverend family that had little fortune. At that period, in such a situation, Jane was supposed to marry a rich man for a better future. In the meantime, Lady Gresham’s nephew, Mr. Wisley lost his heart to her. Wisley was a numb man, and always followed his aunt’s advices. Besides, Jane was in love with Tom, a handsome young man from London. Therefore, when Mr. Wisley asked Jane to marry him, she refused directly.
However, life would never go on smoothly for any great love. When Jane, accompanied by Duchess le Comtesse, visited Tom’s uncle to find a chance that make him approve of their marriage, his uncle was mad at Jane1. Their plan didn’t work. Jane hoped Tom to stand on her side and struggle for their love, but Tom chose to give up (the fist time “giving up”, made by Tom, for his love for family) for he needs the financial help from his uncle to support his big but poor family.
Jane went back home, and before long she heard that Tom was 1 Because you have so written your first sentence and used when, of course you should combine the two sentences into one so to show the transition your readers are promised already.
engaged with an pretty lady. Hearing this desperate news, Jane accepted Mr. Wisley’s proposal. When Tom heard this, he couldn’t stay calm anymore. He found Jane, asked her to elope with him, and Jane agreed. But, God made a joke on them again. Jane haply found a letter which was written by Tom’s sister to thank him for sending them money. Until that time, did Jane understood why Tom had given her up in London. She suddenly determined that she couldn’t destroy Tom’s reputation or his responsibility for his family. As a result, she confessed to Tom about all this, and left him (the second time “giving up”, made by Jane, for her love for Tom).
There are two sentences said by Jane, which I can’t agree to more.
If our love destroys your family, it will destroy itself. In a long, slow degradation of guilt and regret and blame.
Many people felt sorry for Tom and Jane after watching the movie. As far as I’m concerned, they’ve made the best choice. Just as Jane said, if they selfishly eloped, there was no way for them to raise Tom’s whole family. At that time, guilt and regret would overwhelm them, they won’t be happy.
Many years later, they met again. Seeing Tom live a happy life, I guess Jane would be the happiest man on earth because she finally confirmed her decision to give up was right. More importantly, when
she heard Tom call his daughter “Jane”, she would realize that Tom always and still put her in his heart of hearts, their love would last as long as they live.
They gave up - for love.

第二篇:Becoming Jane《成为简奥斯汀》英文观后感
Becoming a woman, becoming a legend
"A woman especially if she has the misfortune of knowing anything, should conceal it as well as she can." ――Jane Austen
The movie, Becoming Jane, fabricates a character, the hero Tom Lefroy, to show us audience Jane Austen’s romance. It ever or never happened in Jane’s life. Nevertheless undoubtedly, the movie is a successful one. We are all moved by Jane’s sense and sensibility. Jane completes a legend by her lifetime of becoming a great woman.
There are many commentaries on the film――
Her own life is her greatest inspiration.
Between Sense and Sensibility and Pride and Prejudice was a life worth writing about.
No one can ignore Jane’s achievement. Six immortal works about romance leave us a deep impression on the importance of being together with our true love. Relatively, few people know Austen’s own romances. She never get married. I think many people would like to consider that Jane uses her life to memorize a love and explain her understanding about love. She insists. She believes a marriage without love will never be happy, and a love without money will never be real.
According to the movie, the great novel, Pride and Prejudice, is based on Jane’s love story with Tom Lefroy. The arrogant and handsome hero in the fiction insinuates Tom who is just a practical lawyer. But Darcy is rich,
independent, owning authority and position, while Tom relies on his uncle and has little money. At the same time, the beautiful, clever and a little extreme Elizabeth just insinuates Jane herself. Obviously, there is an insurmountable distance between the novel and the reality. In the Pride and Prejudice, Darcy and Elizabeth get together eventually. Yet Jane and Tom Lefroy can only be friends, not lovers. In my mind, Jane is trying to give herself and Tom a happy ending in her novel which will never come true in reality.
What will we do when our dream is so different from the reality? To
surrender or to surmount? Maybe there can be a few people protect their love to go through their life, like Jane Austen, and never betray their love. However, the courage is not owned by everyone. Too much affection and emotion need to be called to our mind and pondered over. A Jane will live our heart, bringing us an opportunity to share the legend.
