第二篇：The great Gatsby 英语读后感 Essay “Gatsby and the America Dream”

Gatsby and the America Dream

While Nick settled in the fashionable East Egg， Mr. Jay Gatsby, a wealthy and mysterious man who owned a huge mansion next door to him. With the acquaintanceship of Nick and Gatsby, Nick gradually knew that Gatsby and his cousin Daisy used to love each other before he went away to the war. However, Daisy left Gatsby because he was not rich and soon married Tom, a millionaire. In order to let Daisy back, this pain but aggressive young man was determined to be rich and he gained honor and wealth by his own efforts 5 years later.

Unfortunately, all Daisy wanted is steady riches and satisfied material, so Daisy left him again. Gatsby’ dream was completely broken and soon he was killed mistakenly.

Between 1910~1920, Americans dream was from needy to rich, from ordinary to flourishing, from no one knows to everyone admires. During this “Roaring Twenties “period, people pursuit and fought for their dreams no matter how they born. And Gatsby represented it perfectly. He spared no effort to make his dream come true, and finally gained wealth, respect and place on the strength of his persistence and struggle. Although he didn’t achieve the dream of

living with Daisy, but as far I am concerned, he had accomplished the America dream completely. The honor always belongs to people who indeed come out to fight by their own efforts regardless of the ending, just like Gatsby, he caught the chance of being rich. And that is the deep meaning of the American dream.

Like the great Gatsby, we must follow our dream and never ever give up, no matter what it takes us, what’s waiting on the other side. This is the America spirit. Let’s carry our brilliant dream and keep fighting like him!
