Writing a Book Report
One way to share a book you have read is to write a book report or review. Writing the book report will also help you think about the book and understand it better, also it can help you to show how you understand the book you have read.
There are many different patterns for writing a book report. In general, it includes three parts: important facts about the book, a summary of the main ideas, and a criticism of the book.
Tell the important facts about the book in Part One:
1. Give the title of the book;
2. Give the name of the author and say something about the author;
3. Give the name of the publisher;
4. Give the date of publishing;
5. Mention what kind of the book it is and briefly tell what it is about.
Give a summary of the book in Part Two:
1. The main ideas of the book;
2. Tell some details of each chapter;
3. Describe some main parts of the book.
Criticize or give your opinion of the book in Part Three:
Tell whether or not you like the book and give reasons for your opinion. Your reasons should be based on questions like these:
1. What was the author’s purpose in writing this book? Was this purpose achieved?
2. Do you like the way the author wrote the book? Why or why not?
3. Do you agree with the author? Why or why not?
4. What are the strength and weak points of the book?
5. How could you write the book, if you were the author of the book?
6. What have learned from the book?
