Differences between Chinese and Western Education
Education is a vital part of culture. Different countries have different ways of education.
We are all familiar with Chinese-style education. Its core is teaching students how to master knowledge and use it to solve problems. From junior school to high school, students contact plenty of knowledge and skills. They are required to master them and then finish a mass of exercises to consolidate them. In the process of teaching, teachers use various ways to arouse students’ interest. But they as well as their students usually pay attention to knowledge itself rather than the way of attaining knowledge. It’s especially obvious when a big exam is approaching, like the college entrance examination. The so-called quality-oriented education is just a slogan.
In contrast, students’ tasks are more relaxing in western countries. In German, children are forbidden to go kindergartens before school age. In America, the final evaluation includes the final exam and social practice, etc. Of course the latter is more important. Western students may be more relaxed, but their experience is much richer. Besides, they may have more exploring spirit. In my opinion, comparing to knowledge base, learning methods and spirits are more vital in future development.
Education various from country to country, but teaching knowledge and skills is most important.

The differences between Chinese and western education
Knowledge is the first productive force. In today’s world, he powerful a country is depends on its education level. Because of culture, history, environment, system and so on, there are many differences between Chinese and western education.
As far as I know, the Chinese education focuses more on basic education. On the contrary, the western education concentrates more on innovation. Two kinds of education are closely linked to the conditions of the countries. The large population forces China to take the overall quality in the first place. Therefore, the strict standard must be set. Chinese students have to study many subjects and get good grades to stand out from several millions of students. Chinese students spend too much time on the learning of skills. Western education is different. They concentrated more on develop students’ independent personalities. They give children more time to cultivate their interests. Western students may do not as well as Chinese students in study, but their creativity has been developed since childhood, so many scientists are born in western countries.
In a word, Chinese education is civilian education, while western education is elite education. No advantages and disadvantages. But in my opinion, I prefer western education, for their respect to children’s nature.
Differences in Chinese Education and American Education
The Earth is not big as it used to be. With the development of globalization, we can get to know the completely different environment and culture. Through comparison, we are easy to find out Chinese education is different from American education. China, a country of 5000 years’ history, prefers the education of imitation, gaining experiences from others and starting to learn in advance. America, the super country in the world, is fond of personalized education and learning by oneself. And I will talk about my point of view about the two countries later.
During the early period of lives, Chinese gradually adapt to the style of imitation and gaining experiences from others. When we were young, we were often guided to doing things which were thought to be correct by adults. In the schools, we seldom explore the correctness of knowledge. What we are accustomed to do is listening to what the teachers said and memorize them. We acquire knowledge and experiences from adults and books, not from our own discovery and thinking. By this method of learning, we can skillfully use the discovered knowledge. But we lack the ability to find out the new things.
Besides, Chinese kids also suffer a lot from this learning method. In order to be outstanding in the future, kids are asked to have extra classes which are thought to help kids gain varieties of skills, such as painting, swimming, calculating, playing the instruments, etc. On the one hand, these classes take too much time and it’s not appropriate for kids to take such classes when they don’t know what they are
interested in. On the other hand, if kids can truly pick up the skills from these classes, it will undoubtedly make them more talented than others.
However, American kids don’t have to learn skills which make them versatile. They often take part in different activities, such as cook, mow, paint the wall, set up a camp and cut woods to make a wooden table. The adults suggest that in this way children will gain a lot through their own exploration. And American students are unnecessary to study all the subjects. They have the rights to choose their own subjects which suit them. Once getting enough credits, they can also study in the universities. This is called personalized education. Nonetheless Americans own a heap of creations, but they are lack of solid fundamental knowledge compares to Chinese students, which makes them more difficult to receive higher education.
There is a saying that China is a place developing elites while America is a place for geniuses to grow. I hope these two styles of learning can be combined together one day to make contribution to the human beings all over the world!
很多同学喜欢滥用冠词the, (e.g. the several millions of students;through the following cases we can see the apparent differences…); 3, 中式化表达很多。(e.g. the future is based on the students..)
