一、简历的基本格式类型

There are three basic types of resumes: Chronological, Functional, and "combined" Chronological - Functional. To see what these styles look like, get a resume book. They are usually terrible guides for how to write an excellent resume, but they are good to see different formats. We would love to show you what complete resumes look like but your web browser would probably do unspeakable things to the formatting. CHRONOLOGICAL

The chronological resume is the more traditional structure for a resume. The Experience section is the focus of the resume; each job (or the last several jobs) is described in some detail and there is no major section of skills or accomplishments at the beginning of the resume. This structure is primarily used when you are staying in the same profession, in the same type of work, particularly in very conservative fields. It is also used in certain fields such as law and academia. It is recommended that the chronological resume always have an objective or summary, to focus the reader.

The advantages: May appeal to older more traditional readers and be best in very conservative fields. Makes it easier to understand what you did in what job. May help the name of the employer stand out more, if this is impressive. The disadvantage is that it is much more difficult to highlight what you do best. This format is rarely appropriate for someone making a career change.

FUNCTIONAL

The functional resume highlights your major skills and accomplishments from the very beginning. It helps the reader see clearly what you can do for them, rather than having to read through the job

descriptions to find out. It helps target the resume into a new direction or field, by lifting up from all past jobs the key skills and qualifications to help prove you will be successful in this new direction or field. Actual company names and positions are in a subordinate position, with no description under each. There are many different types of formats for functional resumes. The functional resume is a must for career

changers, but is very appropriate for generalists, for those with spotty or divergent careers, for those with a wide range of skills in their given profession, for students, for military officers, for returning homemakers, and for those who want to make slight shifts in their career direction.

Advantages: It will help you most in reaching for a new goal or direction. It is a very effective type of resume, and is highly recommended. The disadvantages are that it is hard to know what the client did in which job, which may be a negative to some conservative interviewers.

COMBINED

A combined resume includes elements of both the chronological and functional formats. It may be a shorter chronology of job descriptions preceded by a short "Skills and Accomplishments" section (or with a longer Summary including a skills list or a list of "qualifications"); or, it may be a standard functional resume with the accomplishments under headings of different jobs held.

1. To explain where the applicant has got the information about the vacancy. For example, he can learn it from his friends, or in the advertisement, or in some papers, or he just wants to try his luck.

SAMPLE: Having noticed the enclosed advertisement in this morning's South China Daily, I wish to apply for the position of sale's manager.

2. To Present personal information. This part should be a description of the applicants age, sex,

education, working experience and specialty. It is in this section that the applicant presents his advantages or qualifications for the position. Details are encouraged, but the applicant should bear it in mind that exaggration or false descriptions are not allowed in the letter.

SAMPLE: I am 21 years of age. After graduating from high school, I took a two-year business course in Foshan Commercial School, studying both bookkeeping and typewriting. I now wish to enter an office where the work requires great individual responsibility and judgment, and where there is an opportunity for achievements.

3. To claim your referees(推荐人).The applicant is well advised to enclose in the letter the names as well as the addresses of two or three referees after he has got their permission. Referees are of great importance for obtaining a job, for they are the best and most persuasive support for the condidate's potential, merits and strength.

SAMPLE: I have obtained permission to give the names of the following persons as references:

Professor Song Xieli, Director, English Department, Haitai University; Mr. Wang Qing, Manager, Human Resource Department, Chinese Import &Export Corporation.

4. To inquire the chance of an interview.

SAMPLE: I should welcome a personal interview at your convenience.

三、优秀的英文求职信和简历的要点 下面,介绍一些常用而标准的英式写法。

第一部分 求职信 (Cover letter)

求职信的目的和好处在于:

1、可保证个人简历到达正确的阅读人的桌面。如果招聘广告上没有收信人的姓名,我推荐打电话询问将会处理求职申请的人的姓名(这显示你的诚意以及专业精神,给雇主深刻印象)。假如不能的话按照以下原则:小型企业—经理(Managing director),中型企业—部门负责人(Head of

section/department),大型企业—全体职员或者人事部(Personnel or Human Resource Department)。

2、说服收信者阅读你的个人简历

3、清楚地表明你对具体哪一个职位感兴趣

4、表明为什么对该职位有兴趣,为什么你认为自己胜任该职位

5、提及一到两点在个人简历里面的内容,以及回应广告的要求

所以,求职信并不能保证你找到工作,但,做好这一点,它能给你带来面试的机会,或者至少令雇主打开你的个人简历。

那么,Cover letter要包括那些内容呢,至少有以下几点。

1、招聘广告中给出的收信人姓名,头衔和地址

2、你所感兴趣的职位以及你从何处得知招聘消息(或许朋友推荐)

3、用三到四个“项目符号”(如Word工具栏)列举出你为什么能胜任该职位的背景和特长,回应招聘广告的要求。

4、表明有兴趣获得一个面试的机会,讨论申请问题。

5、检查拼写和语法错误

6、千万不要提及薪酬问题,也不要提及雇主想要或者可能想要的但你又不能达到的技能或要求

7、除非注明要求手写,否则应用打字机或者文字处理软件打印。但个人签名一定要用手写(记住这

一点不要忘记)

8、对应不同的申请应用不同的求职信,例如内容、侧重点和风格的不同等

9、注意,Cover letter应力求精简,除非有特殊情况,否则一律用一张纸完成

下面举出一个实战例子:

第一、一般建议:

或许你可以从网上或学校提供的求职指引得到一些写个人简历的模板,但雇主通常对千篇一律的求职信不感兴趣。因此,千万不要复制一些标准的模板。你的CV应该是你自己的,个性化的,但又跟个性化不同。

首先,个人简历应该用文字处理软件来打出,并用质量好的打印机打印。注意不要用太多不同的字体和大小,不要用其它颜色。但推荐用加粗或者下划线标出少数的重要的关键词,便于雇主找寻他想看到的词。

其次,不要忘记在计算机上用“拼写和语法”工具查拼写错误和语法错误,或者让其他英语水平好的朋友检查。

再者,强烈推荐用Word工具栏的“项目符号”或“编号”。想一想雇主可能半个小时要读完100封CV,所有CV的下场只有两者:可考虑或者垃圾桶。因此,你的个人简历一定要设计成能快速阅读,短而精,引起读者兴趣。

还有,针对不同的雇主和要求对个人简历作一些轻微而必要的修改,这一点用文字处理软件是一件简单的事。

最后,写好草稿之后,让你的老师,家人或者你的朋友看,问他们假设他们是雇主的话应如何改动才会好一点。重新再看多几次,用红笔修改,使简历显得更精简,可读性更高,更容易理解。

第二,动笔之前

坐下来仔细阅读你想申请的工作的广告,甚至他们并没有打出招聘广告你也可以试一下。列出他们的要求,比较你自己的技能,教育程度,工作经验等。很多时候,招聘广告所给的信息并不足够,除了站在他们的角度想象一些可能的要求之外,你还必须对相关的雇主和/或其公司的情况,例如公司结构,产品,成功之处,发展宏图等进行搜索作一些了解。搜索的途径主要有:因特网,其公司的正式文件、宣传资料、报告,报纸报道等。

第三,书写风格(Style)

大体上有两种。第一种是按时间循序式(Chronological),所有的信息包括在鲜明的标题下,例如教育程度、工作经验等。这一种方法容易入手一些。第二种称为技能针对式(Skills Based),就是根据技能要求列标题,所有个人信息分别列举在相应标题下。这一种比较高难度。 第四,简历长度和纸张格式

1-2页。一定不要超过三张A4纸(特殊工种除外),因为雇主没有那么耐心和时间看完你的业绩。注意,大部分情况下用正式的白色纸黑色字体,但某些情况可以改变。例如你申请的是电视台节目或者图像设计等相关工作时,可以考虑用彩色纸张,别出心裁的设计等。

第五,组成部分

1,个人资料(PERSONAL DETAILS)

包括姓名(建议用英文名字加上自己的姓以便联系和称呼),电话号码,电子邮件地址,联络地址(因在信封上和求职信中已包括,可以考虑不列出),生日(各地文化不同,通常没必要列出),性别(如果你用英文名的话不必列出),还有个人网址(如果你觉得制作得不错的话)。没必要列出国籍(在国内的话多此一举,在国外的话此举会降低你的面试机会)

2,教育程度(EDUCATION)

主要列出大学或者专科的学习情况。所学科目,所得学位或毕业程度,每年所学的跟求职工种相关的课程,还有自己参加的相关项目(Project),所写的论文(Thesis/dissertation)等。另外如果获得奖学金或其他嘉奖的话不妨列出。

高中毕业情况很简要的列出,比高中远的学历没必要列出。

建议按照由近到远的时间循序列出。

3,工作经验(WORK EXPERIENCES)

列出你最近的工作经验。给出你雇主的名字,你自己的职位,还有非常重要的是,你在工作岗位上所作的成绩和贡献。如果没有突出的成绩,可以列出你的职能,例如接待多少客户,完成多少项目,协助完成多少项公司交易等。

另外,只要是与所求职位相关的工作经验,即使是很短期的Part-time工作,也不妨把它列出来。 4,技能长处(SKILLS)

包括语言能力,计算机水平和经验,有否驾驶照等

5,个人兴趣(INTREST / EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES)

简要地列出你的一些个人兴趣,例如体育项目(如果你跟雇主的兴趣相同的话更佳)、集体活动、志愿工作等,尤其是如果你在这些活动中担任领袖(leadership)的话。注意一定要简练。举个例子,如果你曾担任系篮球队队长的话,雇主没有兴趣知道具体你什么时候担任,打过几场比赛,赢过几场比赛等。假如他们对这些有兴趣的话会在面试的时候问你。

这一部分可以让雇主从侧面了解你的群体协作程度和正面的社交性格。

6,推荐信和/或推荐人(REFERENCES/REFEREES)

通常列出两个名字,一个来自大学,另一个来自任何工作环境(全职/Part-time/义工)。如果没有的话,可以列出对你非常了解的比你年长的家庭朋友。然后给出他们的职位,工作电话和夜间电话(事先必须获得他们的同意)。

7,可选项(Optional extras)

在开头可以采用个性化的声明(Personal Profile/Objective statement),用两到三个句子概括你的能力,资格,希望和计划。这一点可以引起雇主阅读的兴趣。

另外,你还可以在简历上加一张你自己的照片(扫描或者在文档粘贴)。但照片必须是积极的照得很好的,而且是“活泼”的(不要看起来病态、囚态、魔态或者古板)。

另外,差点忘了一点,就是在前面加上你的职位目标(JOB OBJECTIVE),通常是招聘广告所列出的职位。

下面,举一个最简单的实战例子。

分七大块,以左对齐的大标题标出。

PERSONAL DETAILS(第一块)

Include your Name, (Nationality, Date of Birth), Address, (Marital Status), Phone Number(s) and E-mail address. Also state whether you are a driver and how mobile you are prepared to be.

第六,求职信(Covering letter)(见上“第一部分”)

第七,申请表格(Application forms)

对于某些工作,雇主会先发给你相关申请表格。这时你仍然需要写一封求职信(Covering letter),以及你的个人简历(CV)(除非雇主有表明不必要)。

注意,填写表格与写CV一样,要求干净和清晰,用黑色钢笔或圆珠笔(便于复印)。

推荐:用另外的纸张写出你的答案,或者先把表格复印下来,在复印件上写和改动,最后确定才把它抄到正件。

完成之后,复印一次然后保留复印件,以备面试之用。

注:可能的话,保留所有已发送的求职信,申请表格和个人简历,以及打电话询问的纪录和你所询问的人的姓名,或者把其保存到电脑里。

第八,面试(INTERVIEW)

学会如何把握一个面试机会同样是十分重要的。你可以从图书馆或者因特网上找到一些面试常见的问题,然后让你的老师,同学或者朋友跟你进行练习。

到了真正面试时,积极和自信(但不要过于自信),以及端正的衣冠和礼貌是必要的。面试过程要谦虚,语言清晰,直截了当。与考官的眼神接触建议在六成到八成五之间。

如果你被拒绝的话,善意的雇主通常会回顾面试的过程,告诉你如何提高关于个人简历和面试技巧。否则你大可以虚心地请教他/她需要改进的地方,以便以后吸取教训。而且,说不定,雇主还会因此保留对你的关注。所以,如果你以消极方式对待失败的话,你会给雇主一个很差的印象,不但以后不会有机会,而且你永远不能由此吸取教训,迎接下一个挑战。

第三部分 推荐信

由前公司和/或毕业院校以正式信函(带信头)给出最佳。推荐信的有无以及好坏取决于你平时的表现和社交能力,因为老师,学校和公司不可能为每一个学生或员工都写推荐信,也不可能都写得那么好。如果没有的话请一位熟悉自己的长者也可以。但注意千万不要作假,凭空捏造。 第四部分 重大的嘉奖或成绩的复印件

假如有的话是大有帮助的。但注意这些嘉奖和成绩必须是跟你所申请的工种相关的,否则等于浪费。

值得一提的是,除了以上看报纸寄求职信等消息的方法外,还有一种最直接而且事实证明是最有效的求职方法,就是直接上门。但这种会丢掉你很多“面子”。

瞄准你想进入的公司,或许列一个公司地址列表,准备好个人简历和推荐信以及求职信,逐一拍门。来到接待处直接说明你想找工作,要求见一见经理。对一些正式的公司来说,如果经理在场的话会给你2--5分钟的时间,然后你必须准确地把握你的短暂时间和语言能力,说出你的大意,并要求留下你的个人简历和推荐信以及求职信。如果经理不在的话,接待处职员会让你填好一张表格,然后回去等消息。

根据一些国家的法律,公司和雇主没有权利拒绝求职者要求填求职表格的请求,不管该公司有没有登招聘广告。甚至要求雇主必须以书信或者电子邮件的格式给求职者一个答复。

千万不要以为这样就会成功,你必须不断的碰钉子,不断的接受失败,然后从失败中锻炼,你会学会如何跟公司接待处的职员沟通,如何在与经理的短暂的谈话中直截了当,给他一个好的印象。 这样,可能你会经历100次的失败,但很有可能你会在第101次时成功。记住,不要放弃。 最后,一封出色的求职信和优秀的个人简历并不是成功的保证,但却是非常重要的成功的第一步,尤其值得把它做得最好。

四、求职英语:二十六个经典的求职信结束语
