当你先要留学海外的时候，是不是要懂得把握时机，自我推荐呢？

在申请就读海外院校的过程中，如何准备自荐信和教授推荐信是一件很重要的事情。人在国内，学校在海外，申请者一般都没有面试的机会。你只能通过高质量的自荐信和推荐信来说明并展示自己的能力。对于写好自荐信和推荐信提出如下建议：

一、写好推荐信

一些留学生在挑选写推荐信人的时候，往往会进入一个误区，认为请名头越大的人写越好。这个问题只能是根据每个人的具体背景来回答，并没有普遍适用的答案，但不管是请什么级别的人来写，一定要体现该推荐人和申请者是如何相识的，是什么关系，并确实了解申请者的情况，这样才合乎情理和逻辑。

如果你是应届本科生毕业，那么写推荐信的人应该是任课的教授，一个专业课老师，一个基础课老师。这样，一个在专业上突出你的长处和学习能力，另一个则体现你的基础素质等方面。而对于在职的人来说，写推荐信的人可以是公司的直接上司和有学术专长的教授。

推荐信要突出个人亮点。在推荐信中，并不是把这个人的优点写得面面俱到就是好推荐信，因为这样并没有突出申请者与众不同的亮点。同时，在国外的院校里，他们每天要收到很多封推荐信，有亮点的信自然会吸引人的注意。一封推荐信中有一个主要的闪光点并有具体例子佐证你的优点即可，这样会给招生人员留下较为深刻的印象。许许多多的推荐信都犯着一个相似的错误，那就是几乎满篇都是溢美之词，但却不举一件事例来证明。

500～800字是理想篇幅。

二、写好自荐信

（1）求真务实。写自荐信务必本着实事求是的态度，切不可弄虚作假。 有些毕业生为了增加自己在人才市场的竞争力，弄虚作假，自欺欺人，涂改自己的学习成绩，夸大自己的特长，在是否当学生干部一栏自封几个头衔，在奖惩一栏凭空捏造几项荣誉，这些错误思想和做法都很不足取。

（2）突出个性，巧妙包装。

（3）掌握分寸，措词得体。

（4）有的放矢。写自荐信应讲究分寸。

（5）言简意赅。自荐信的内容控制在两页之内。文字要反复推敲，意思是否表达清楚，用语是否得当，文法及标点力求准确无误。

首先，千万不要遗漏掉那些有用的和中肯的成就、经验等事实。许多申请者错误地认为自己发表的文章已经列在履历里面了，在自荐信中就不应该再提。其实，个人履历是一份完全不同的文件。它是对个人经历的一种简洁而全面的介绍，使得读者对申请者能够很快有一个大致的了解。自荐信则是希望读者仔细阅读的，它要介绍申请者的成就、抱负和个人品德。所以申请者不用担心内容上的重复。

还有许多申请者硬是要把自荐信的篇幅压缩在一页纸内，因而只能很简要地提到自己的成就。其实，如果内容充实，为什么不能写到二至三页呢？比如说到发表的论文，往往只提到一个题目。其实，写一篇科研论文往往是要付出巨大心血的。这不光是写篇文章，而是反复的科学论证和无数次实验的结晶。申请者起码应该用二至三个句子，说明这篇论文所代表的实验、实验用的方法、目的和获得的成绩。还应该说明通过发表这篇（或这几篇）论文，申请者在这一领域做出了什么贡献，获得了哪些思想方法、认识和科研手段上的提高。

还有的申请者犯的是一个相反的错误，他们把高中甚至更早的成就也不厌其烦地列在自荐信上。比如当上了三好学生、少先队长之类的。因为中国学生申请的学位最低的也是硕士研究生，大学时期的成绩或是随后工作上的成就更为贴切，也应该足以用作素材了。当然，少儿时期的成就，若是对随后的学术道路产生了重大的影响的，也可以提。有的申请者对某一学科，比如说数学，情有独钟，很早就显露出天才，在中学时期就在数学竞赛中获奖，由此激发了对此学科的强烈兴趣，从此矢志不渝。这样提就非常妥当。

最好不提的还有政治观点、宗教信仰和其它一切容易引起争议的不同寻常的话题。有个别申请者在文件中提到了“上帝”这样的字眼，犯了西方社会宗教和学术分离的大忌。

最后一点提醒读者注意的是，对自己的事业和生活道路上的挫折没有必要讳莫如深。许多杰出的人物都曾经历过困顿。人们一般会欣赏那些不被困难压倒，不因失败沮丧，在逆境中寻找光明的人。关键在于你是否用积极正面的态度对待挫折并表现出这种积极的态度。
