Test 1
Go to Work or Go to Graduate School?
你毕业后是找工作还是考研?请按照提示加以阐述。
1、 越来越多的毕业生认为考研是最好的出路。
2、 但大部分毕业生认为先找份工作更重要。
3、 我的看法。
Go to Work or Go to Graduate School?
It is very difficult for undergraduate to make a decision whether to attend a graduate school or to apply for a working position with the graduation just around corner. More and more college students plan to continue their education in graduate schools. They think that those with a higher degree (Master’s, P.D., MBA, etc.) earn a higher salary and handle more responsibility.
Most university students, however, choose to find a job. They think that their bachelor’s degree is probably going to earn them a job and that how nice it would be to have money coming in. They are proud that they could finally begin to call themselves “independent”, and that they’d be able to use their academic training to try and make some impact in the real world.
As far as I am concerned the two paths are reasonable if we do not take the decision lightly. Before making a choice we have to consider the following questions: What will I specialize in? What are my interests? What are my career goals? Will graduate school assist me in meeting my career goals? Most importantly, trust our judgment and have faith that we’ll make choice that’s best for us.

Test 3 Main Points:
1、 我的两个同学的相似之处。
2、 他(她)俩性格和做事方式的不同之处。
Sample Analysis:
My two classmates Long and Bin have many things in common. Both have doctor parents are in the same grade and of same age. Both like computers and share the same interest in internet. Yet they differ somewhat in their ways of handling things and in their
personality.
Long is open and easy-going, and has a lot of friends. His room is often filled with boys and girls exchanging ideas and experience about the internet or their shares. When he meets with troubles, the first thing is go to friend.
Bin is rather conservative and reserved. He prefers to shut him in his small room and work on computer. He would rather talk on the phone with his computer colleagues. If he finds himself in trouble, instead of asking friends or parents for advice, Bin would always think for some time and make a decision himself.
In spite of their contrast in their personality, I like them both especially their bright ideas and talent.
Test 4
A Plan for My Future Career
I’m studying now in a medical University. My future career is to be doctor. I plan to prepare myself to do well in medicine field.
The first thing to do is to inform myself with wide range of knowledge through books from library or lectures by professors. I also keep contact with a few doctors in hospitals and have a part-time job as a university evening nurse. I observe doctors and talk to patients and I enjoy the work.
But to be a doctor means far more work than reading more books and being a nurse, so I do a project in surgery and spend half a year collecting materials and watch operations. I want to be a good surgeon.
I will graduate next July, and I am confident to take doctors as career not only a job.
Test 6
Have a Private Car?
Life in modern times is busier and people seem to spend more time on work in order to earn a living. Many go to work by bus or by bicycle. A few who drive their private cars say “Why not have a private car; it is much cheaper than a house.”
The convenience of private car is obvious: taking you anywhere anytime with anybody at your will. But there are some reasons that stop people from making positive decision. First of all, it is the price. It
is much cheaper than a house but still a long way for people to save as much as fifty or a hundred thousand Yuan RMB to buy a new car, which may mean more than five to ten years hard work for average salary people. Second, it is too many traffic accidents, which is one of the terrible disasters only next to fire. Third, many drivers are not well qualified and it makes the accidents rate go up every year.
Most Chinese still use buses, subways or bicycles. It takes longer time, but they can afford it and it may be safer.

Computer Age
Computers are playing more and more important part in all walks of life. They are widely used in business, industry, and transportation. Besides, they work wonders in military affairs and space travel. Furthermore, they come into offices and bring about a great revolution in office work.
Computers are also entering ordinary families. Today, ordinary people use them to obtain all kinds of information; writers use them to write books. Children use them to learn and play games. There seems to be no limit to the work that computers can do.
Despite all the advantages, computers can never replace the human brain. The human brain is at least 10,000 times more complex than a computer. Computers cannot make decisions of their own. They need detailed instructions for human beings to operate. So they can never replace human brains altogether.
Sample2
Computer Age
This is the age of computers. People use computers in almost every field: libraries, stores, stations, hospitals, military bases and offices. Computers enable human beings to work, entertain and even gossip without in face contact. The amazing speed of sending and receiving message on the Internet enhances the efficiency of modern life.
But the other side of the picture can not be ignored. The use of computer makes a lot of people lose their jobs, for many employers require their employees to know how to operate computers. Also the dependence on computers makes people much lazier than before, since on the Internet one can book an airliner, make a purchase, talk to colleagues and enjoy the countless information resources. The worst thing computer has brought to us is to chain the kids to computer games or to chat on the net. Some refuse to leave the computer desk night after night; others even risk their lives by surfing online.
To my mind, we should make a better use of computers, while getting rid of its disadvantages.

It is quit easy to find reasons for attacking advertising. First, it tends to be extremely costly and this cost must eventually be paid by the consumer. Second, it uses up valuable human resources. The advertising profession occupies many of the best brains in any country. In addition, from the social standpoint, advertising promotes image over substance and a standardization of taste.
However, there are also a number of persuasive arguments advanced in defense of advertising. In the first place, it has a valuable information function, helping potential customers know about the characteristics, and the prices of products or where they can buy a particular product cheaper. Then, by stimulating demands for success full products, advertising creates jobs in the manufacturing and service sectors.
If I must choose between living in society typical advertising or without advertising, personally I prefer the former. West Berlin, for example, symbolizes the former, East Berlin the latter. I have visited both places. I would certainly prefer to live in West Berlin, where the city, its programs and its magazines are full of advertisements---and as a result, full of life, interest and especially variety.

Nowadays advertisements are found everywhere. They smile to us from the television screen, or shout to us from the radio loudspeakers, wave invitingly to us from every page of newspapers and magazines, pluck at our sleeves on the bus and escalator, signal to us from roadside billboards all day and flash messages to us in colored lights all night.
What is more, advertisements fill almost every minute of a day. You will be waked up in the early morning by the ad songs outside. The newspapers you pick up after lunches are full of ads, from clothes, cosmetics to Coca Cola, virtually anything that can be purchased. The films shown on the TV in the evening are often interrupted by
commercials.
There is no doubt that no one can avoid being influenced by ads. Is it possible for us to sit indifferent to a certain beautiful, convenient, versatile vacuum cleaner show on TV when you are considering buying one? Is it possible for us not to be attracted to a certain heating device, which claims its wonderful effect of curing chronic diseases and even of helping toward one’s longevity?
As a matter of fact, advertisement has become one of the most authoritative voices to us today and it dominates our lives.
Benefits of Advertisements
The occurrence of ads is very common.
Nowadays, it is difficult to find a public place without advertisements. We read ads in the press, see them on television, and hear them over the radio. Even when we watch a ball, ads will meet our eyes.
Advantages of Ads:
1. It is true that in economic activities, advertisements are playing a
more and more important role.
2. They tell people about new products and help promote sales. In
this way they stimulate production and vitalize economy.
Disadvantages of Ads:
1. Some of the manufacturers, in their hope to win a big market for
their products, tell lies about their products.
2. Also, some advertisements appeal to children, who ask their
parents constantly to buy them something in the ads. From this point of view, ads really have some disadvantages.
Test 11
The Mobile Phone
1. 移动电话发展很快。
2. 移动电话的好处。
3. 移动电话不足之处。
The Mobile Phone
A decade ago, the mobile phone was a luxury for only a few. Now it is very popular. The rapid spread of the mobile phone is perhaps one of the miracles of the modern communications history.
The advantages of the mobile phone are obvious. First, you can carry it around wherever you go. You don’t have to look for a pay phone to make a call when you are always from home or office. Besides, you don’t have to have a notebook for phone numbers as they can be stored in its memory. With a mobile phone, you can even log your computer onto the Internet and send e-mails. What’s more,
in remote areas, where it costs a lot of money to lay telephone lines, the mobile phone is a convenient substitute. Finally, in an emergency the mobile phone can save lives. To take one recent incident, an American woman whose car got bogged down and buried in heavy snow was reduced thanks to a mobile phone she kept in her car.
However, the mobile phone still has room for improvement. One thing is the battery. You have to recharge it almost every day. If you neglect to do so, you will find the signal weak or receive no signal at all. Another thing is the call making a sales pitch. They are an absolute nuisance. If the mobile phone could automatically receive important calls and filter out the unwanted ones, it would be all the better for us users.

Advantages of a Job Interview
Now, when a person is hunting for a job, there will always be a job interview and I think the job interview has a lot of advantages. The interviewer and the interviewee can know about each other from it.
First, the interviewer can tell something about the job to the interviewee such as the salary, the work conditions and something else that is relevant to the job. Then the interviewee can decide whether the job is really suitable for him.
Second, I think the job interview is a good chance for the interviewee to show his or her capability and knowledge by expressing himself or herself to the interviewer. He can also show his or her ability and confidence. Then the interviewer can figure out whether he or she is the right person for the job.
In a word, I think the interview will do well to both the interviewer and the
interviewee. By an interview the interviewer can find a suitable person if both of them make the best use of the job interview.
