一、语言表达

There is no doubt that television has greatly changed people's lives. After its invention, it became an almost indispensable part of most households within the space of just a few years. Nowadays, many families have two or even three television sets so that every member of the family can watch what he wants whenever he wants. In my opinion, this has significantly reduced the amount of time that family and friends spend communicating with each other.
Before the invention of television, people spent their leisure time in more active and social pursuits. They often played cards or other games, listened to the radio together or went out to see friends. But now television is widely available and it offers a variety of program choices that appeal to almost every interest. People no longer have to look to others for entertainment. Also, television can be like a sedative. Studies have shown that watching a great deal of television makes people more passive. Finally, people are simply watching increasing amounts of television. And with two or three TV sets in the house, there is no need for them to even watch it together.
Although television has reduced the amount of time that family and friends spend together, it doesn't have to be this way. People can make the choice to turn off the TV and do something more active. Or, if they really want to watch TV, they can find a thought-provoking program that they would all like to watch and discuss afterwards.

美国人没有我们想的那么简单。20xx年3月8日考试出现了以前机经中没有的独立写作题——“当代人是做喜欢做的事还是做必须做的事”。托福作文题突然变脸令考生不知所措。完全依靠押题而获得托福高分是不现实的，唯一保高分的办法是了解美国人思维。美国人所做出的托福独立写作作文题在变化，但是他们思维没有任何变化。

美国人托福思维还体现在综合写作中。综合写作阅读部分是典型线性思维：第一段是中心思想段；二、三、四段为理由段。听力部分结构与阅读相似：第一段为中心思想段；二、三、四段为三个理由段。如果阅读讨论的是一件事的advantage，听力就是这一件事disdvantage.即所谓三个对应，三三相反。综合写作考的这类作文为advantage和 disadvantge类型。综合写作这种结构导致独立写作作文类型限制为agree or disagree类型。考独立写作，我们可仅抓一个观点agree or disagree来写，无须用advantage和 disadvantge类型。

Human activity has damaged natural environment and almost exausted natural resources. Modern industry needs more and more resources, including minerals, fuels and water. So we confront of the serious problems such as the lack of fuels and water. Ecological balance is damaged because factories occupy many places where animals and plants live. More and more buildings are constructed and forests become less and less. If we cannot recognize these problems and solve them soon, we would finally lose the environment suitable for our living.
An other serious problem is "the green-house effect." Human activity decreases forests and increases the usage of

fuels so that the gas of carbon dioxide is output more and more and there are not enough plants to absorb it. The green-house effect is more obvious and more sensible these years. Due to the effect, icebergs in the south polar and north polar melt and the sea level becomes higher than before. Teenagers in this town are not entitled to accept good educational chances, most of which will only go to school for few years and then drop out to be cheap labor force downtown.
