Ladies and gentlemen,
Today I would like to begin my speech with Jia’s story.
Born poor and previously a safety guard at Qinghua University, Jia never gave up on his college dream. By taking advantage of the academic resources at Qinghua, he finally made his way to college last year.
Reading this piece of news, I am both shocked and moved. Jia pursued his dream and made achievements despite his disadvantaged financial and occupational background. Among the many reasons why he succeeded, I would point out the role of having a dream as the most critical one. As we can see around us, many would have dropped their dream and thought of themselves as doomed to be underprivileged the whole life, should they be in Jia’s shoes. Yet that’s far from the worst case.
