The Tibetan Antelope Kneeling on Its Knees
by Wang Zongren
It is a true story that I heard about Tibet. Although it happened many years ago, whenever I travel by bus across the depopulated area in North Tibet, I can’t help recalling the heroine of the story, a Tibetan antelope that embodied its deep maternal love in kneeling on its knees.
In those days people who frequented North Tibet would often meet an old, thickly bearded hunter along the Qinghai-Tibet highway. Wearing Tibetan boots, his long hair falling over his shoulders, and his hunting rifle shiny from use carried at his side, he walked in front of two yaks that carried heavy load of games. After he sold the games, he would only keep a little money for his own use while he gave the larger part of his earnings to the pilgrims he met on the road, and each time he would, with tears in his eyes, pray to Heaven for their safety.
He lived on hunting wild animals but he was a benevolent man. The very thing that made him stop taking animal life was an unexpected incident. Early in the morning one day, he went out of his tent and stretched himself after he soundly slept for a whole night. When he was ready to have a cup of creamed tea, he suddenly spotted a strong, fat Tibetan antelope on the opposite grass-covered slope just a couple of steps away from him. Activated at once, he raised his rifle and aimed at it without hesitance. To his surprise, the antelope did not run for its life. It looked imploringly at him, stepped up toward him and then knelt on its knees with tears streaming down from its eyes. Softhearted for a flashing moment, he did not pull the trigger. But after all as a hunter that could not be moved by the imploring antelope, he shut his eyes , pulled the trigger and the antelope fell onto the ground in a kneeling position with discernable tears still on its face
He did not cut up and skin it that day as he had usually done before. The kneeling antelope repeatedly appeared before his eyes. He wondered why it knelt on its knees before him. The next day as he restlessly cut it open with a hunting knife, he cried with 1
shock and the knife fell on the ground with a crash. He saw a baby antelope lying in the womb, surely dead. All of a sudden he realized why the antelope was strong and fat and why it heavily knelt before him: It was imploring him to have mercy on its baby!
In the world the kneeling of a man’s or an animal’s kind mother is sacred.
The old hunter buried the antelope and its unborn baby together with his hunting rifle that day...
? 注释

How to laugh more often
If you’re sad, anxious, ill, or you’ve just had a bad day, you should probably laugh more. The saying “laughter is the best medicine” is true. Among its many powers, laughter has been found to improve mood and strengthen bonds between people. Here are some fun steps that will help you laugh more.
Just Smile — Even if you’re not happy. If you smile at something that’s slightly uplifting, you are training your body to laugh more.
(1) Be Thankful — It’s easy to develop a habit of being thankful once you’ve thought of all the things you have to be thankful for in the
first place. The more thankful you are, the less you think about yourself, and the happier you become.
(2) Practise Laughing — Try to laugh more for no reason at all. This might be difficult if you are really sad. Making laughter sounds can even cause us to really laugh more.
(3) Find Funny Entertainment— Cartoons and live comedy shows are great at helping you laugh more. If you don’t know what type of humour suits you best, try watching all types of comedy and sooner or later you will be laughing.
(4) Surround Yourself with Funny People — Even if you don’t feel like leaving the house, force yourself to spend more time with people who laugh a lot. Just being around them will cause you to laugh more.
(5) Be Playful — If you’ve ever seen a lot of children playing, you’ve probably heard them laugh more than most adults you know. This is because they haven’t taken control of their inner playfulness.
Invite Laughter — Encourage your loved ones to laugh more by talking about funny things that happen in their lives. Maybe they haven’t laughed enough today either. Exchange funny stories until tears pour out.
What is emotional eating

What is called emotional eating and its influences?
Emotional eating is that people use food as a way to deal with feelings instead of to satisfy hunger. We’ve all been there, finishing a whole bag of chips out of boredom or eating cookie after cookie while preparing for a big test. But when we have done a lot — especially without realizing it — emotional eating can affect weight, and even health. Not many of us make the connection between eating and our feelings. But understanding what drives emotional eating can help people take steps to change it.
Emotional eating can be affected either by negative feelings or positive feelings.
One of the biggest misunderstandings about emotional eating is that it’s caused by negative feelings. Yes, people often turn to food when they’re stressed out, lonely, sad, anxious, or bored. But emotional eating can be linked to positive feelings too, like the romance of sharing
dessert on Valentine’s Day or the celebration of a holiday feast. We’re all emotional eaters to some extent. But for some people, emotional eating can be a real problem, causing a serious weight gain.
The reason for knowing the difference between physical hunger and emotional hunger.
The trouble with emotional eating is that after the pleasure of eating is gone, the feelings that cause it remain. And you often may feel worse about eating the amount of food you did. That’s why it helps to know the differences between physical hunger and emotional hunger.
The example of how to overcome emotional eating.
Next time you reach for a snack, check it out and see which type of hunger is driving it. For example, do you come home from school each day and automatically head to the kitchen? Stop and ask yourself, “Am I really hungry?” If all the signs point to hunger, choose something light and healthy to eat.

Can a laugh every day keep the heart attack away? Maybe so. Laughter, along with an active sense of humor, may help protect you against a heart attack, according to a recent study by researchers at the Maryland Medical Center.
“The old saying that ?laughter is the best medicine? appears to be true when it comes to protecting your heart,” says Michael Miller, director of the study and a professor of medicine at the University Of Maryland School Of Medicine. “We don?t know yet why laughing protects the heart, but we know that mental stress can cause a heart attack and laughing can effectively reduce the stress.”
In the study, researchers compared the humor responses of 300 people. Half of them had either suffered a heart attack or heart disease. The other 150 did not have heart
disease. Both of them were asked to answer some questions to find out how much or how little they laughed in certain situations. Miller said that the most significant study finding was that people with heart disease responded less humorously to everyday life situations and they generally laughed less.
“The ability to laugh — either naturally or as learned behavior — may have important effects in societies where heart disease remains the number one killer,” says Miller. “We know that exercising, not smoking and eating foods low in fat will reduce the risk of heart disease. Perhaps regular, hearty laughter should be added to the list.” Miller says it may
be possible to take laughter into our daily activities. “We could perhaps read something humorous or watch a funny video and try to find ways to take ourselves less seriously,” Miller says. “The suggestion for a healthy heart may one day be exercising, eating right and laughing a few times a day.”
A miracle of tears
内容简介:
那天简直是这个干燥季节里最热的一天了,我们已经快一个月没有看到雨水了,庄稼也蔫了,小溪干涸了。如果再不下雨,我们就会失去一切……
It was one of the hottest days of the dry season. We had not seen rain in almost a month. The crops were dying. The creeks and streams were long gone back into the earth. If we didn’t see some rain soon, we would lose everything. It was on this day that I learned the true lesson of sharing and witnessed the only miracle I had seen with my own eyes.
I was busy preparing lunch in the kitchen when I saw my six-year-old son, Billy, walking toward the woods. Minutes after he disappeared into the woods, he came running out again, toward the house.
I went back to make sandwiches, thinking that whatever task he had been doing was completed. Moments later, however, he was once again walking in that slow purposeful stride (大步) toward the woods. This activity went on for an hour: walk carefully to the woods, run back to the house.
Finally I couldn’t take it any longer and I crept out of the house and followed him on his journey.
As I leaned in to spy on him, I saw the most amazing sight. Several large deer loomed (隐约出现) in front of him. Billy walked right up to them. And I saw a tiny deer lying on the ground, obviously suffering from dehydration (极度脱水) and heat exhaustion, lifted its head with great effort to drink the water cupped in my boy’s hands.
When the water was gone, Billy jumped up to run back to the house. I followed him back to a spigot (水龙头) that we had used to shut off the water. Billy opened it all the way up and a small trickle began to creep out. He knelt there, letting the drip drip slowly in his makeshift “cup”. When he stood up and began the trek again, I was there in front of him. His eyes just filled with tears.
“I’m not wasting,” he said.
As the tears that rolled down my face began to hit the ground, they were suddenly joined by other drops, more and more.
All I can say is that the rain that came that day saved our farm — just like the action of one little boy saved another.
