第二篇:全国英语演讲大赛演讲稿之第五名

Good morning, ladies and gentlemen, honorable judges and distinguished guests:

After thinking for a long time, I realize it’s not a good idea to downsize the topic from our future to any individual future. But since actually did it, I thought it couldn’t be any worse if I intend to talk about history all over my speech, as I perfectly agree with Shakespeare in, “what’s past is prologue,” (quotation from Shakespeare to prove past is just the beginning of future and to express the reason why he didn’t talk about history next )and this prologue starts our play for the future. So our story, at the beginning, takes us back to Thomas Edison. Many would say Edison’s greatest invention, light bulb, is the result of a determined course accompanied by hard labor and the sprit of never giving up, as we all know,(take Edison’s story of inventing light bulb for example) he said, “a genius is 1% inspiration with 99% perspiration.” (quotation) But the amusing fact was Edison actually stumbled across the phenomenon that electric-currents would heat up fibers and makes them glow when he was working with his gramophone. So light bulb, we say is an unintentional invention. Yes, your might point mirror thing in his mother’s operation story(another story) could have worked as an incentive for to dream of something brighter. But it is hard to imagine that little boy, as he was holding the mirror in the front of the candles saying to himself, “I am going to invent something called light bulb someday”.

The speaker totally takes two examples of Edison

I guess not, most likely that what we get is a bigger candle. (put his own opinion forward since here)So future cannot be planned, someday not even the way we dream of it in our pursuit for success. It is a match that favors neither the swift nor the strong. But time and chances as Mark-twain said “Name the greatest of all inventors: accident.” But why do we still call these inventions great when all they need was a little luck? They are great because they did not live by their luck, their greatness came from anther thing, perseverance. (emphasize the importance of perseverance)

Back to Edison, anyone working with electricity couldn’t have missed the phenomenon-heated up wire is a daily occurrence, but it was Edison-and Edison only-who tried out more than a thousand materials and got about the same number of failures and succeeded in the end(think deeply, why Edison finally can make it). Chances help those who help themselves. If Edison had been an opportunist, most likely he would live the rest of his life selling light bulbs.(brave assumption) But he didn’t. Indeed, sometimes that however much perspiration you have paid, that 1% of inspiration just don’s stride your head like my experience in writing this speech. (another perspective that inspiration play an significant role in Edison’s success)

But more often the case is that those who had the 1% of inspiration wasted it in their daydreaming.(reflection of the negative fact in modern society) So luck alone-like being a big game winner in a casino-that makes you rich, but it does not make you great; it is what you do with the chance that makes a difference, do after such a long prologue, the play is still left us to finish and this is a play we never get tired of, for future is a stage of infinite tales. And to all the great directors of our future plays, remember this question: Do we each have a destiny, or are we just rather flowing an accident life in the breeze? Maybe it’s both can happen at the same time. And I never stop believing that every solid step I made will lead me to somewhere eventually. Actually it did lead me here and I would call it an unintentional destiny. (put person’s brave assumption after question and state his person brief , short end but arise audience’s deep

thoughts)Thank you!
