More than four months have passed since I begin my career in Dalian Machine Tool Imp & Exp Co., Ltd. As DMTG is one of the top machine tool manufactures in China and in the top 8 manufactures in the world, it is very famous. It used to be my dream to occupy a position in such a great Group. China has more than 1000 universities range from the one which has more than 100 years history to the new one which is only less than 10 years old. The more university here, the more graduates will be here and the stronger competition they have to face here. So many companies would lik
e to recruit the graduates from famous university as famous means good, means the university has great ability to train professional and good students. DMTG is also the one without exception aiming to only accept the graduates from the best and famous universities.
I, a freshman in the society, graduated from Dalian Nationalities University majoring International Trade with good written and oral English ability, good talent in organization and good personality insisting on that to be a good man will get good reward and I do have self-confidence. But when I went to the society one year age to hunt a job, I find it is really so hard for me to present a true myself as many employers will first judge you by your university in your CV. Anyway, I send my CV to DMTG and I was surprised to be informed the notice of interview! After almost 1 hour’s oral English Test I was told to take part in the translation exam, but I failed without seeing the sores on my paper. I didn’t believe that, so I kept on learning and preparing. Five months later, I came to the company again, and I failed without any reason but only with one announcement “you are not good enough!” So I become to doubt my ability, to doubt whether I should be so self-confident. But I didn’t give up. Finally, I became to be a luck dog at the 3rd time, I successfully passed the exam hold by DMTG and with great honor I finally become one dripping of this enormous enterprise’s blood.
Now I am very confused as we (the new staff) have seen every parts of DMTG and we are facing to be lay off as the world economy crises. On Dec 17, we were told to write down our name, university, Date of Birth and Major on a piece of paper and give it to our manager to be the reference for him to decide who will be laid off. I was deeply hurt as the manager underlined my name just because the university I graduated from. On Dec 24, the announcement was carried out which showed all the new staff of DMTG Imp & Exp Co., Ltd have been laid off. With no choice, we began to deal with the process of being fired as the negotiating of compensate, the problem of our Hukou, etc. Life is full of change and sometimes, it is really like a play. Just the next day, the Imp & Exp department of the Casting Company, wholly owned by DMTG, offers one position to us. Being encouraged by a good friend two of us send the application including me. So the 4th exam in DMTG for me was coming.
I was very exciting as the one Mrs. Dee who took official responsible for the examination is the one who is the most famous and has the best ability of English, so I can get the chance to prove myself, to find the evidence to show the student of Dalian Nationalities University is also very good! As you can guess, I succeed! I find a new job in the same group by myself. Until now, do you still remember I used to “failed” the first two times exam just because the director said “You are not good enough for this job” and Mrs. Dee is the one admired by that director as her English is the best in DMTG. So today, when Mrs. Dee met me in the office, she smiled to me and said “Your English is really very good, where and how did you learn is?” and I replied “My major is not English and I learn it in Dalian Nationalities University”, then I found Mrs. Dee is a little puzzled maybe this university is so strange to her so I said continuously “It is a very young, located in Dalian Development Zone and as the university wants to be more famous and aims to give more good talents to the society, although it is very young, it is just doing its best to hire the best teacher, to design the most reasonable course structure and especially for my major—International Trade, we have foreign English teacher and we use English to learn our major courses.” Then Mrs. Dee nodded and kept sm
