It was the hidden door!

Mary unlicked the door with her key and slowly pushed it open.

Mary was standing inside the secret garden. Everything looked mysterious.

“It's so quiet!” Mary said to the robin.

She saw green leaves sticking out of the soil. “These must be growing things,” Mary said.

She started to dig the dead grass away from the green leaves.

“I want to make my own garden.”

“That's a great idea,” said Martha.

“I'11 ask my brother, Dickon, to bring you some gardening tools and seeds.”

“I'11 help you plant them. Where is your garden?” “First, can you keep a secret?” asked Mary. “Sure,” answered Dickon.

“Come with me. I'll show you the secret garden,”she said.

Mary took Dickon to the secret garden.

They cut away the dead rose branches to make room for the living ones.

“Will you come again and help me?” asked Mary. “ I’I1 come everyday,” answered Dickon.

Mary came back home for lunch.

Martha said to her,

“Mr. Craven is here and he wants to see you.” Mary saw Mr. Craven in a big room.

“Is there anything you want?” asked Mr. Craven. “May I have a small space to plant some seeds?” asked Mary.

“Of course you may,” said Mr. Craven.

Mary was excited as she ran back to Martha. “I can have my garden!” she shouted.

That night, Mary heard someone crying again. She took her candle and followed the sound. Soon, she saw a light under a door.

She pushed the door open.

On the bed a boy was crying.

When he saw Mary, he stopped crying in surprise. “Who are you? Are you a ghost?” whispered the boy. “No. Are you a ghost?” Mary whispered back. “No. I'm Colin Craven. Who are you?”asked the boy. “I am Mary Lennox and Mr. Craven is my uncle,” said Mary.

“He is my father,” said Colin.

“No one ever told me he had a boy!” gasped Mary. “I am always ill in bed.I don't like people knowing about me,” said Colin.

“Does your father come fo see you?” asked Mary. “Sometimes. My mother died soon after I was born. It makes him sad to look at me,” said Colin.

Mary felt sorry for Colin so she told him about the secret garden.

“Tell me more about the garden,” said Colin. He was very interested in the garden.

Soon, they became friends.

met Colin last night.”

“On, no! I'll lose my job,” cried Martha.

“Don't worry. He was happy I came,” Mary said. Martha looked worried. She went out and came bacI~ soon.

“Colin is out of bed and wants to see you,” smiled Martha.

He took a few steps to a nearby tree.

While his son was getting better, Mr. Craven was traveling.

The dream seemed so real.

“I must go back home,” he said.

As soon as he arrived at Misselthwaite,

he hurried to the garden.

He could hear sounds of running and laughter. Just then, the door opened and a boy ran out.

“Father,” cried the boy,

“it's me, Colin.” For a minute Mr. Craven could not speak.

His son was happy and well!

Mr. Craven.hugged him.

Colin led his father through the door.

“I thought it would be dead,” he said.

“Mary and Dickon brought it to life,” Colin said. “And Colin, too,” Dickon said.

Then the three children cried out, “It's magic!” “Tell me all about the story,” said Mr. Craven. For the rest of the day, they took turns telling him about the secret garden and its magic.
