《Beauty》读后感

读完Susan Sontag所写的《Beauty》后，我感觉获益良多，重新思考了女性与美这两者之间的关系，同时也对此有了更深入的认识。

早在古代中国，人们就已经把女性与美联系在一起，并且对女性的美十分重视。什么倾国倾城、国色天香、闭月羞花、沉鱼落雁之类的成语，都是用来形容女性那令人销魂的外貌美。而美丽也成为了当时中国女性出名的一种重要手段。西施、貂蝉、王昭君、杨贵妃这古代四大美人，不正是因为她们那绝色的美貌而流芳百世吗？因为智慧而广为人知、家喻户晓的女性，在古代中国中真的很少，不是因为当时女性愚钝，真的没有才干，而是因为在那时的社会背景下，人们普遍认为美丽才是女性最重要且最应拥有的特征，人们重视女性美貌的程度远远超过了对其内在的看法，即使是钟无艳、黄月英这样的才女，也逃不了被人们对其丑陋相貌的一番指点。

在史书中，我们不时可以看到四大美人、几大才子啊之类的说法，却极少看到几大才女或几大美男的字眼。在古代，单靠相貌俊美而闻名于世的男性几乎不存在。学富五车、才高八斗、满腹经纶……这些成语虽没有明确说明只能形容男性，但从中国古代的用词习惯来看，这些词都较多地偏向在男性身上使用。即使是现在，如果有人向我描述，某个人才高八斗、满腹经纶，我脑海里第一反应这个人也应该是男的。所以也怪不得，在两性中，美成为了女性的专属品，但却只是男性的附加品。

古代中国经常吹捧着这样一句话：女子无才便是德。这不仅直接

贬低了有才女子的身份地位，同时更加深了女性渴望得到美、追求美的思想。因为旧道德规范认为妇女无须有才能，只需顺从丈夫就行。而顺从丈夫在很大程度上就是取悦丈夫，而取悦丈夫则需要身为妻子的把家中内务处理得井井有条的同时，更重要的是仪态及相貌要保持端庄，尤其是在众人面前，因此美也成为女性取悦他人的一种需要。

从现在的观点来看，虽然美不再是女性的专利，男性不断培养自己能力才干的同时也开始比较重视自己的外貌美，但这仍未改变美的天平对女性这方的偏重。譬如说，大部分化妆品都是以女性为主要营销对象，而专为男性设计的化妆品只是占了当中的极少数。又例如，衣服的种类，女性的服饰种类繁多，款式新颖多样；而男性的却比较单一乏味。

美，尤其是女性的外貌美，是一种暂时的，不可长期保存的东西，它会随着时间的流逝，渐渐地、慢慢地被摧残，直至它自己偏体鳞伤，失去原有的魅力。然而，才干却完全相反，它不仅经得起时间的考验，并且在这过程中，它一点一点地积累经验、能力，越是长的时间越能彰显它的光芒。所以说，从女性的角度看，美固然不能忽视，但自身能力、才干也要得到充分的重视与培养，这样才是一个女性永恒的美。

The secret garden

The secret garden was written by Frances Hondgson Burnett a classic novel of children’s literature.It’s really very classic and famous,and we can learn many things from it.

Mary is the leading character in the novel.She was born in a wealthy family ,but her parents didn’t care about her at all.So in order to get attention,she became spoiled and bad-tempered,she even didn’t know how to dress!Things began to change,because her parents died,then she was sent to her uncle’s home in England.At first,she was very disagreeable.People didn’t like her very much,which result in her loneliness and boredom.Soon she found the secret garden.The arden was her died aunty’s favourite garden,but she died in it.As a result ,her uncle locked it and buried the key under the ground.Meanwhile she also found that her uncle had a son Collin,who had the same condition as she used to have.Collin also lived in an unhappy family:his mother died and his father didn’t care about him.He was vulnerable and always suffer from illness.All these make his character disagreeable and distorted.Then Mary showed up and brought light and hope to him,helping him defeat and recover from the illness.

In the novel,I like Mary most.She is kind,bright and warm.Her attitude towards life affected me.

“It’s Magic,”said Mary,“but not black ,it’s as white as snow.We all know it’s not magic ,but the power of hope and love.But here,we can see the hope and the warmth from her words.

I’d like to show a beautiful description of the garden.

“...At first it seemed that green things would never cease pushing their way through the earth,in the grass,in the beds ,even in the crack of the walls.Then the green things began to show buds and the buds began to come out…”

As we can find in the novel,after she find the garden,Mary changed from a lonely,disgreeable girl to a hopeful and bright girl So was the garden.It changed from a wild mussy garden into a lively and beautiful heaven.In the book,it’s Mary who found the beauty of the garden.While in the real life,maybe what Mary and Collin to us is what garden to Marry.If we pay more attention to these child,they don’t failed to satisfy you. and so is life.Maybe it’s tasteless to you sometimes, but if you observe it,you can find the beauty.Just like a famous word saying:“Life doesn’t lack beauty,but lacks the eyes to find beauty.

In this novel,the secret garden is a transition part.From the garden,we can see many changes:the change of itself,the change of Mary and the change of Collin.All of these are due to the garden.In my opinion,the secret garden symbolized the dream and the

hope.Since Mary found the garden,which means she also found the dream and hope.Life is hopeful and full of beauty if we find and observe it.And if we dig deeper,we can get the theme of the novel:life itself is a magic,so the power to change everything is the love for the life,which is the original power of life.

One of my teacher once said something about the novel:“The whole world is a garden,as long as you try ,you can always find the wonderful beauty.”

I first read it when I was in high school.To me,it was just a short interesting story for a child to read at that time.But now,I know I was wrong.Although it’s a novel of children’s literature ,what it reflects is really very meaningful and deep.Now,we are no longer a child,however,it’s worthwhileto read it again to get some light on your mind and more important is to keep your dream,hope and love towards life.
