The Adventure of Tom Sawyer is one of the most famous and popular books among children in the world. It is written by Mark Twain who is one of most outstanding writers, novelists and orators. Helen Keller once said that she liked Mark Twain; even the God, liked him too. He had good reputation among the literary circle, so I want to learn more about him and his works. Therefore, I read it at the beginning of this semester.
Tom’s parents passed away, so he was adopted by Polly aunt. Tom was a naughty boy. He could not stand the regulation of school, so he often skipped school. One night, he and his friend, Huckleberry, went to cemetery to verify their courage to their imagination, they witnessed the homicide case. Afterwards, at the court, Tom hesitated about pointing out his crime. But at last, he tried his best to do it. However, the murder was escaped at that time. Accidently, Tom and Huck met the murder at the haunted house. They heard that the murder wanted to put a lot of money in a secret place. Once, his school organized going to picnic. Tom and his classmate, Becky, lost their way to came back in a cave. They had nothing to eat and drink for three days. They were faced with threat of death. The most dangerous thing was that they came across the murder.
At last, Tom depended on kite and found the exit safely. Villagers heard their experience and blocked off the exit. When villagers found the murder, he died due to hungry. Afterward, Tom and Huck went back to the cave, finally found the treasure and became the hero of this village.
Tom was very mischievous boy. He liked play jokes on other people. But he was also a person who was full of kindness and willing to help other people. He did not like to stay at school all the time and lived a boring life. He always saved the ‘good children’ when they were in danger. He was brave and saved the problems and difficulties in a positive attitude. Tom was very smart. He liked adventure. He was a character that was described most vividly. The Adventure of Tom Sawyer is one of the most excellent works of Mark Twain. The active children and inflexible life were obvious contrast. The writer had shown us the truth of society and deception of religion. We can find that the writer was good at telling story and very humorous in this book. The description of nature was vivid, especially the description of scenery of hometown. I believe that Mark Twain loved his hometown very much. The writing skill was very good. I admire Mark Twain very much after I read his works.
In this book, Tom was a boy who liked freedom very much. From some people’s perspective, freedom is more valuable than life. However, if we
lose our life, what’s meaning of freedom at that time? Life is long or short, but it always is full of all kinds of colors; when you feel happy, life is red; when you sad, it is grey. Sometimes, life will become green when you come across something fresh or novelty. But if we do not cherish our life experiences, we will lose the precious chance to see the color of life. Tom Sawyer’s different life experiences were admired by a lot of children. His cleverness won a great deal of toys instead of helping other people do something he was unwilling to do. He did not want to be looked down upon, so he and his friends went to adventure. Even if he experienced lots of dangers; with the brilliant brightness, he succeeded in surviving in the danger. At last, he got all his want. In my opinion, although Tom got the treasure and self-identity, but I still think he should put his life in the first. Nevertheless, some people do not do anything all the day or committed suicide due to some ridiculous reasons, precious life is wasted. What a pity! We admire Tom’s cleverness and luck, only if we value our life and live a life with our ways, we will live happily.
Another point is the friendship. There is no denying that Tom could not become the hero if he had not got the help and trust from his friends. He was very lucky that he made several good friends. They trusted him and helped him when he was in trouble, which was the very important factor in the Tom’s success. In fact, not only in the novels but also in our real
life, friendship is a permanent topic for human being. On the one hand, friendship is necessary for us to live. Regardless of work or life, we can not live a integrated live without friends’ care, help and trust. When we are upset, we need friends comfort us; when we are in trouble, we need their help; we also need them trust us when we run into some problems. We can share our happiness and sorrow with friends. On the other hand, nowadays friendship is rare. A lot of people make friends with us just because they can get something useful from us. I experienced by myself. Many people are false. Of course, there are also a lot of people with true heart. My friends treat me very well. Although we have long time no see, we are still very close. When I need help, she always gives her hands first. I am so happy that though I once met something bad, I still make some true friends. If everyone treats others with his honesty like Tom and his friends, I believe that society will be a great difference.
After reading this novel, I learn a lot. It teaches me to cherish life, live a colorful life and value the friends around me. Now, I want to read more works of Mark Twain.

The Sentiment after 《The Adventure of Tom Sawyer》
This fantastic book was written by the famous American writer Mark Twain. I heard his name a lots when I was little boy, but I’ve never read any his works. And this time , I’m so glad that I could read his book in English, that’s more interesting than read in Chinese . And also it improved my English somehow.
The hero of this book was a naughty, funny ,smart boy named Tom, he lived in his aunt’s house with another boy and girl. Tom was very naughty but he has very strong sympathy for animals and something else. His aunt always punish him, but it does not bother his own happy life. He often skip classes for swim with his friends, he was tired of school life. So, he had an idea, run away from home, to have an adventure with Huckleberry Finn. His dream was to be the chief of pirates, according to him the pirate was the symbolization of freedom. Nobody would punish or blame him anymore if he was the chief of pirate. Because they were all afraid of him. So he did it. And during the time he left home, he’s got many difficulties and troubles, but they could never stop or destroy his determination which to be the chief. He wanted to take a look at how is the real world works and playing pirate. But anyway, at the last time he went home, because he don’t wanted to make his aunt Polly feels sad. After his disappearance, once he went home wanted to left a note to tell them he was not drowned, but to be a pirate. And when he got home one thing
surprised him much, that was aunt Polly was praying for him and crying. It’s really made him felt better, because he realized there was somebody still loved him and cared for him. So, while the father was praying for him and his friends at the church. They jumped out and standing in front of everybody, they were all astonished, because they thought these poor kids must have been died. When aunt Polly saw Tom was all right, she was so excited and gave him big hug. She asked Tom where did he go, “we are just playing pirate” said Tom, when Polly heard this she got angry at once and began to blame Tom again even she was really happy in the heart. Almost at the same time when Tom and other guys came back, there is another thing happened, It’s about Mr.Muff Potter’s trail result, his lawyer had no idea to prove he was innocent. When Mr.Potter sent to the jail, Tom and Fin went there to visited him and gave him a pack of cigarettes and a box of match. Tom and Fin made a decision after they left the jail, they were going be the witness in order to prove Mr.Muff was not guilty. Because they had seen the real murderer was not Mr.Muff but his friend Injun. When he spoke out the truth at the court everybody was shocked. The real murderer was so angry, he throw a little knife to Tom’s head, fortunately, It missed. Then the real murderer ran away from the court immediately. The guards went to searching out him, but no news, he was disappeared in the air. However ,Tom was safe and he saved Mr.Muff’s rest of life, The next day, the school decided to
celebrate Tom’s brave action, the headmaster gathered all students to went out have some activities,then they went a cave. As we know Tom was a naughty boy, he took Becky went another side of the cave to have a romantic time, but they lost in the cave when other people leaving. After for a while one of students found that Tom and Becky were not in the group, and then Becky’s father gathered many people to looking for them, they searched and searched, but nothing. Finally they heard some sounds coming form other side of the cave. Meanwhile, Tom and Becky were afraid and hungry. Suddenly they found the there was a man, to their surprised that was the murderer. They both ran back quickly, the murderer also found them, he rushed toward to Tom wanted to kill him, but he sliped down on a stone and fell into the bottom of the cave and died. That stone was really in time , It saved Tom and Becky’s life,and finally they found the exit of the cave.
This story was really interesting, let me understood a lot. May be Tom’s study was really bad, and of course he was a really really naughty boy ,always thinking about how to trick. But anyway, he was brave , he has the courage to take the blame for what he did, and smart, he know how to use his brain to make things getter better. For example, his aunt once punished him to brush walls. There was no doubt that he would not obey his aunt, in order to make other friends to help him to do it. He just pretended him was enjoying to brush walls, and laughed his other friends
could not do this. It’s made them really unhappy, in order to prove they could do it as well as Tom do, they all asked him to let them have a chance to brush walls. See? Tom’s idea was succeed.
I know Tom more like a rebel boy sometimes, he was tired of school, but I think I can understand him as well. When I was in primary school, I felt so happy ,because I did’t have any pressures or burden on my shoulder. I did’t have much homework, the life at that time was very easy. But time flies, now I am a college student. The homework is getting more and more. Sometimes, I wanted to throw away all of my books and play games without any worry. Looked into the sky imagine I could fly like a bird in the air freely. If these were real, I think Tom may have the same felling as well.
After read this book, I think we should never give up no matter what kind of problem waiting for you. Struggle and insist. Because this story told us if one has good attitude. The dream, will be come true.
