Oliver Twist 读后感 英文

时间:2024.4.25

Morning, ladies and gentleman! First, Let me show you a sentence. Kindness, the foundation of life. This is what I said. Maybe someone is opposed to this view. But I want to share you a story, oliver twist.

The story tells us the tragic experience of an orphan,Oliver ,born into a life of poverty and misfortune in a workhouse. He spends the first eight years of his life at a farm. Along with other orphans, Oliver is brought up with little food. One day, he receives the cruel treatment by Mr. Bumblejust because of asking for more porridge. Hunger and humiliation force him to escape and incidentally arrives London.

Unluckily, when he got to London,he is cheated by a gang of thieves including Fagin and Sikes. The infamous criminal,Fagin tries every means to make Oliver a burglar.BUT he refuses.By one incident, he is taken to Mr. Brownlow’s and enjoyed a short period of real happy life. However, he was caught by Fagin and Sikes, going through endless hardships again. In the end, With the assistance of Rose who is the aunt of Oliver, Mr.Brownlow who is Oliver’s father’s good friend and other kind people, Oliver eventuallyin herits the half of the remaining money his father left for him, leading a life that is truly blessed.

How such a little boy who had suffered a lot could still remain pure and genuine? Kindness is the key, which is the belief Dickens implied as well.

In this book, Charles Dickens the author tried to tell us his view that kindness can always defeat evil. In my eyes, kindness is unable to make such great power, which is not omnipotent. If thing goes followingthis idea, we just need to be kind ,why we still need to struggle with evil?

However, I am attached to the belief that no matter how hard it is ahead, as long as we possess kind hearts, we will never lose ourselves. Because of kindness, we like oliver will never do something harmful to others. Because of kindness, we like Mr.Brownlow, are ready to help others. Because of kindness, we unlike Fagin and Sike, live a life without horror, whopper ,violence , which merely belongs to the evil.

As Charles Dickens said ‘Love makes the world go around’, a warm heart is prerequisite for everyone. Kindness is fresh air to us human beings. Without it ,we still can be alive but cannot be lively. Please bear kindness in mind, and we’ll live a better life. Kindness is the foundation of life. now do you agree with it ?

第二篇:Oliver Twist的英文读书报告

Oliver Twist

Charles Dickens

Charles Dickens was born in 1812, in Portsmouth, England. When he was a child, his family was very poor. Although Charles Dickens attended school for a time, his formal education was cut short. It was his mother who taught him to read and helped him develop a deep love of books. Eventually, he became the best-known characters in English literature. Charles Dickens wrote twenty novels, some of them are famous worldwide, for instance, five ‘Christmas book’ and Oliver Twist.

Oliver Twist is the name of a young child whose mother dies giving birth to him and he is brought up in a workhouse, always hungry and cruelly treaded. After working for a time for an undertaker, Oliver runs away to London where he meets a young thief, the Artful Dodger, and his friends. The band of pickpockets works for and lives with the evil Fagin, who welcomes Oliver to his home. When Oliver realizes what the boys are doing, he tries to escape. Fagin hires Bill Sikes, a violent criminal, to get the boy back again, but Oliver has made new friends who want to protect him. The struggle between these friends and the evil man who want to silence Oliver becomes an exciting and dramatic adventure.

Oliver Twist is the first foreign novel which appeals to me most, and also it is the first book which I am eager to know the end. I am not interested in it until I read to Page 80. At first, I think this is a tragedy: Oliver Twist may die. However, Charles Dickens makes a good finale: Mr. Brownlow unveils Charles Dickens’s identification, a son of his brother-in-low. Oliver owes a lot of money and lives with his kind-hearted friends who have helped him when he got into trouble. Besides, justice has been done: the evils are died. The end of this story is beyond my expectation but seems reasonable.

Like many other works of Charles Dickens, Oliver Twist reflects life in mid nineteenth century very well. Charles Dickens displays a great understanding of human nature, a strong sympathy for young people and a keen for people and places. His works are full of passion and he expresses his virtual ideals in them. When writing Oliver Twist, Charles Dickens employs characteristical language the words said by thieves and prostitutes are fit for their status. In addition, Dickens uses his sympathetic imagination in this book. He describes a thing, a person or even an action in details. For instance, when Fagin is waiting to be sentenced, he watched at the ceiling to the floor, he can imagine all the eyes are fixed on him. And he even notices somebody in the crowd eating and a young painter painting him. By describing things in details, Dickens portrayed characters vividly.
