Good evening, ladies and gentlemen, honorable judges. I?m contestant No.**. It?s my honor to have a speech here. The title is “Showing riches is happiness?”
“I have what you do not have!” maybe most of us are familiar with this kind of words, and perhaps, we, who are in this Multimedia Room, had said or heard it when we were young or even in the kindergarten.
I still remember the real anecdote in my kindergarten life. One of my classmates, whose family is rich and father is a policeman, used to be conceited to show her off in our midst. One day, she came to my group and said proudly, “Look, my dad brought me a set of my favorite color pens!” if someone said, “You are the happiest, you always can get the expensive and superior gift from your dad!” she would be quite satisfied and pleased.
It made me think a lot and it did not leave me. I can?t help thinking, why do the rich and even the rich children like to show their riches? Is showing riches equal to happiness?
In today?s society, there?re many “showing riches” incidents happened one after another. It?s well known that “Guo Meimei” incident is one of the most typical ones happened in 2011. She herself said that she lives in the modem villa residence and drives Maseiati car. After showing riches on her Micro Blog, she has
become the dominant figure. I keep thinking: what?s her main source of financial support? From her father or somebody else? Dose she have happiness fueled by other?s
upbraiding common? And there?s another absurd incident about “Daodao”. Daodao ies?s fancy cars, house and the noble parties he took part in to his Micro Blog. I could not understand, does the conspicuous consumption make him feel happy, rich or else? Though they?re riches, I don?t think them really rich inside. A recent survey indicates that those from the Forbes list of the 400 richest Americans and the Massai of East Africa are almost equally satisfied.
The Maasai are traditional herding people who have no electricity or running water and live in huts made of mud.
What a thought provoking world! With the swift development of society, people?s
morals quality is standing still. Why do some people show their riches in public in order to satisfy their vanity and even pursue their tangible happiness no matter what commons they will have? Actually, they can be rich inside just like Bill Gates. In spite of his rich, he always raises donation to the needs. He said that he will donate more than 70% of his property to the poor and the needs. Have he shown riches? Doesn?t he feel happy when raising donation? Think of it, showing riches do not equal to happiness forever. No matter how much fortunate you are, only you rich inside, can you be the happiest person in the world.
That? s all of my speech, thank you for your attention!
