一、prefer to do sth= would rather do sth更喜欢做某事，宁愿做某事。

例如: I’d like to stay at home , but Max prefers to play(play) football on Sundays. = I’d like to stay at home ， but Max would rathe rplay(play) football on Sundays. 注意点：1. prefer to do sth 不仅有人称变换,第三人称形式是prefers to do sth , 而且还有时态变化, 过去时态为preferred to do sth。

2. would rather既无人称变化,也无时态变化。

二、prefer to do sth rather than do sth = prefer doing sth to(doing) sth = would rather do sth than do sth 即prefer A to B, “比起B来更喜欢A”，其中to是介词。

例如:All students prefer to take the bus rather than walk.

= All students prefer taking the bus to walking.

=All students would rather take the bus than walk.

would prefer的用法

1、后接不定式时与rather than 或instead of连用，如：He preferred to die rather than (to) steal. / He preferred to die instead of stealing. 他宁死也不去偷窃。

2、注意介词搭配，如： I prefer swimming to skating. (I like swimming better than skating.)我喜欢游泳胜过滑冰。prefer 因其本身含有比较之意，而不可再与more 或most连用。

3、prefer＋名词或动名词“宁愿”，“更喜欢”。He comes from Shanghai, so he prefers rice. 他是上海人，因此更喜欢吃米饭。I prefer going by bike.我宁愿骑单车去。I prefer the white one.我喜欢那个白的。

4、prefer to do “愿意做”。I prefer to go at once.我愿意马上就走。

5、prefer sb. to do “愿意某人做” I prefer you to go at once.我倒希望你马上就走。

6、prefer sth. to sth.“宁愿做...而不做...”. I prefer tea to milk.我宁愿喝茶也不喝牛奶。I prefer watching TV to going out.

prefer最常见的意思是"宁可"、"宁愿(选择)"、"比较喜欢"、"更喜欢"等, 可以构成以下结构。

一. prefer sth.

注:prefer是"比较喜欢,更喜欢"的意思,即like better,因此就不能再与better, more等比较级词语连用。

注:在这种结构中,to为介词,而不是不定式符号,故其后应当接动名词形式,决不能接动词原形。另外,为了保持前后对应关系,prefer后面也应当接动名词形式。

六. prefer to do sth.

They prefer to spend the rest of the morning wandering in the streets. 他们比较喜欢把早上剩下的时间都用来在街上闲逛。

七. prefer doing sth.

Mr. Brown preferred spending his spare time doing some reading. 布朗先生比较喜欢把业余时间用来读点书。

注: 这种prefer后面接动名词的结构,用来谈论一般情况下"更喜欢某种活动",而在一个特定场合下表示"特别喜欢"时,得用上述prefer后接动词不定式结构。

八. prefer to do sth. rather than do sth.

These workers prefered to work extra hours at night rather than leave the work until the next week. 这些工人宁愿加班干,也不愿把工作留到下一个星期。 注:这种结构中的rather than可以置于句首。例如:

Rather than go on holiday to the seaside I prefer to work days and go to school nights. 我宁愿白天工作,晚上上学,而不愿到海边度假。

注:有时rather可以移至第一个不定式之前,而让than留在第二个不定式之前,即为prefer rather...than结构.这种用法多见于书面语言,在口语中很少用.例如: She prefers rather to sew than to knit. 她喜欢缝纫而不爱编织。

九. prefer to do sth. rather than doing sth.

They prefer to join in the celebrations rather than going on a visit to the Palace Museum. 他们宁愿参加庆祝活动而不愿参观故宫。

注:有时名词也可用于rather than之后,这种用法多用以表示在某种具体场合的选择。例如:

"What shall we have for lunch, rice or buns?""I prefer rice rather than buns.""我们午饭吃什么,米饭还是圆面包?""我宁可吃米饭而不想吃圆面包。"

这句话表示:在这种具体的场合"我宁可吃米饭。"实际可视为在prefer 和rather than之后均省略了to have.

十一. prefer+that-clause.在that宾语从句中,我们应当用虚拟语气"should+动词原形",其中的should可以省略。

十二. prefer sth. (or sb.)+adj.

I prefer the door open. 我宁愿门开着。

While一词的用法

连词while大致有以下四种用法:

1.引导时间状语从句,意为"当……的时候;和……同时",此时的主从句谓语动作同时发生,从句谓语通常是延续性动词。如:

Mary watched TV while she ate her supper.玛丽边吃饭边看电视。

While she was listening to the radio, she fell asleep.她听着收音机睡着了。

while引导从句时,如果主从句的主语一致,且从句谓语又含有be,则从句主语和be可省略。while后可直接跟现在分词、名词、形容词或介词短语。如:

We are teachers while (we are) serving as students.我们边当老师边当学生。

While (he was) yet a youth, he gained many prizes.他年轻时就曾多次获奖。

He caught a cold while(he was) on vacation.他度假时患了感冒。

2.表示对比或转折,意为"而;然而"。此时,while一般位于句中。如:

Some people waste food while others haven't enough.有些人浪费粮食,然而有些人却吃不饱。 You like sports, while I prefer music.你喜欢体育,而我更喜欢音乐。

3.表示让步,通常位于句首, 意为"尽管;虽然"。如:

While I agree with your reasons, I can't allow it.尽管我同意你的理由,但我不能允许这样做。 While he loves his students, he is very strict with them.虽然他爱他的学生,可是他对学生们很严格。

While (he was) respected, he is not liked.他虽受人尊敬,但并不被人喜欢。

4.表示条件, 意为"只要",其意思和用法相当于as long as。while可位于句首,也可位于句中。如:

You don't have to worry while we are here.只要我们在,你就别着急。

There will be life while there is water and air.只要有空气和水,就有生命。

While there is life, there is hope.留得生命在,不怕没希望。

5.意为"同时;也"。如:

While the book is welcomed by scholars, it will make an immediate appeal to the general readers.这本书受到学者的欢迎,同时也会引起一般读者的兴趣。

6.意为"趁着"。如:

Make hay while the sun shines.晒草要趁阳光好。(谚)

Strike while the iron is hot.趁热打铁。(谚)
