一、 选题的依据及意义

"Tess of the D’Urbervilles" is the greatest work of English writer-Thomas Hardy, having the most profound artistic charms, which is also a treasure to the world literature. It has had an extensive and profound effect all over the world. This paper gives a detailed introduction to "Tess of the D’Urbervilles", which tells us that Hardy shaped a feminine image of resistance and humiliation, by which dialyzes the feminism. Besides, using feminism to explore the causes of tragedy of Tess is also concluded in this thesis. Then readers could have a deeper understanding towards feminism. Meanwhile, it encourages modern women to seek for independent and liberal life. Simultaneously, enlightening us to think about a range of problems over life also can be reached.

二、国内研究现状及发展趋势（含文献综述）

"Tess of the D’Urbervilles" is one of the representative works of English famous author-Hardy. This immortal book has continually stimulated critics to read from every perspective. In recent years, through the angle of feminism, character analysis and so on, many scholar s at home and abroad have anatomized the causes of actress's tragic destiny. Thomas Hardy applied a good deal of symbolism in "Tess of the D’Urbervilles", successfully portraying Tess as a tragic image of a common women living in village. Hardy bears his own intangible feeling into tangible characters and things, composing imagery in order to obtaining not only specific image feature but also rich connotations. In addition, it deeply implied lots of author's thoughts that is beyond words. The paper mainly researches through feminism and Tess's resist personality as well as analyzing the causes of Tess’s tragedy from the view of feminism. With this study, its aim is to clarify that it contains abundant feminism idea in "Tess of the D’Urbervilles". Feminism calls for equality between women and men, female independence as well as women’s own happiness freely. Obviously, it criticized hierarchy and male domination system, yearning for creating a new society that encourages modern women to chase after ego. In the meantime, it reveals Hardy’s attitudes to feminism.

2. Explain feminism from its origin and culture, its famous works and characteristics and development course.

3. Analyze the reflection of feminism in this novel and its influence to tragedy of Tess.

1. Show the importance to complete and deepen feminism in "Tess of the D’Urbervilles".

2. State and analyze the feminism and its specific reflection in story.

3. Make us clear the feminism in the fiction and feminism critical approach to Tess’s tragedy.
