It’s another season for CET4 and CET6; students are tensely reviewing for these two important exams. However, a large number of students complain about their unexpected results which are caused by an

indispensible device, radio. Most students use a certain kind of headphone radio which is uniformly issued and others use various kinds of radios. A senior student suggest us prepare at least 2 radios for fear that one of them would break down during the exam. To bring headphone radios

individually cannot assure the fairness and rationality of the exams. Lightly, it will give rise to individual poor performance; severely, it will create chances for cheating.

Considering the vital position of the results of the exams and to avoid inequality, certain measure has to be taken. The best solution is to apply the school radio station to broadcast the listening material uniformly. This is a much more feasible solution to implement. We have all the classrooms equipped multimedia facilities, the school radio station is simple to receive broadcast signal. What we really need is only wire, the connection between classrooms and radio station will bring great convenience to students.

There may be some other solutions to settle this problem. Some

people advocate of using high quality headphone radios to enhance sound effects and reduce the occurrences of incidents. It seems like a practical solution to this problem, actually, it is flawed. It’s a real fact that almost all the students put their headphone radios on the shelf after using it during

exams. That is to say, once the exams passes, the radios become total waste of money. It’s not sensible and profitable for each student to spend too much money on a high quality radio just because we need it for exams. Besides, some people hold the opinion that such kind of exams can be

computerized so as to be more convenient to do listening exercises. I have to admit that this is really a desirable solution, however, It’ not feasible enough to be generalized, because most of Chinese students cannot adapt to taking computerized exams, especially for those who seldom use computers. Otherwise, it would impose a huge financial burden on our school to apply enough computers and install the exam system

Compared with all the other solutions, my solution has significant

advantages. First of all, it’s essential to figure out the root of the problem. Our school does not provide broadcast receiving equipment so we have to do it on our own. Hence various kinds of incidents would occur during our exams and impose adverse effects on our exams. So, only if the school is willing to provide a general radio, the problem will disappear. There is no reason that the school will not accept my solution because it really benefits both students and the school.

First of all, it will efficiently reduce the occurrences of cheating. The cheating devices are updating day by day, students could obtain the keys offered by others who are actually doing the exam through the headphone. To avoid individual headphone radio is to cut an access to cheat. Secondly, students need to adjust their headphones to a given channel, during this, troubles may occur to some students. If they cannot receive the broadcast simultaneously, it will be a huge loss to their performances. Such kind of situations can doubtlessly be avoided by a general radio. Thirdly, the school charges each student 30yuan for headphone radios, at least

225,000yuan will be saved each year if the school stops using the radios.

To build a radio system is not a quite huge project, and it will not cost too much money, but once accomplished, it will bring great blessings to students and the school, why not carry it out?
