1. My Friend
I met Lily on the first day I began to go to school. She was rather tall for her age and had beautifully smiling eyes. I don’t remember exactly how we got acquainted. It is only that after all these years I suddenly found one day that Lily had always been there, ready to help.
For quite a period I was low in mood, due to successive unsatisfactory performances in exams. Lily was the one that accompanied me, listened to me and tried her best to soothe me. Thanks to her patience and support, I managed to catch up with the others. It is said that a friend in need is a friend indeed. To me, Lily is such a friend whose friendship never fails to lend comfort and strength to those in need.
2. My Favorite Book
Of all the books that I have read, Anne of Green Gables is my favorite. Written by a Canadian woman writer, the book tells about the growth story of an orphan girl Anne. In the novel, the dash and loving young protagonist Anne, together with her fears and wonders that naturally accompany one’s growth into maturity, is portrayed with great force and vividness. When I first read this book, I was still a teenager. Now I have read it for more than five times, but still feel attracted. To me, Anne represents not only the past happiness of childhood, but also is emblematic of the beauty of human nature.
Anne of Green Gables, a world children’s classic with the idyllic setting in Canadian countryside, has moved readers of generations and shall always remain my favorite.
3. My Favorite Season
Of the four seasons, spring with its splendor claims most of my admiration.
In spring, the world is brimming with life. Everywhere we see flowers blossoming, trees budding and grass bursting with greenness. Children play in the warm sunshine and farmers work in the field. People enjoy life as life is full of wonder. When I was a kid, we used to go outing every spring. Thirty or more kids running wild in the blossom-adorned hills created the most natural scene of happiness.
Spring, the loveliest season of the year and the time that has witnessed my most leisurely past, shall always be my favorite.
4. A letter to a Schoolmate
Dear Xiao Wang, June 23, 2008 I’m delighted to learn that you are going to visit me during the week-long vacation. My parents will also be happy to see you again. I’m sure you will enjoy every minute here.

5. My family
Most of us, including me, have a happy family. My family has four members: my mother, my wife, my son and I. I am an engineer. My wife is a doctor. We are quite busy on weekdays and sometimes we have to go to work on weekends. As a result, my mother has to take care of my son, a school boy of 14 years old. My family has a tradition. On weekends when we are free, we four will go out together and have a happy day.
6. My dream
I have a dream that I am always young. Then I will have enough energy to do everything whenever I want. Moreover, I don't have to worry about the old age during which I even can't take care of myself. I know that my dream will not come true. However, I think it is lucky that I am young now. 7. My Hobby
My hobby is fishing. I am fond of going fishing, for it is both interesting and instructive. It tempers my willpower.
Last Sunday I went fishing with my friend, He Ping. We started at daybreak. After three hours' cycling, we came to a stream. In a few minutes everything was ready. An hour passed. I did not catch a single fish. Time and again I was disappointed. There was no fish on the hook. On the other side of the stream, He Ping had caught
several fish, one of which was very big.
"How comes it that you catch fish easily while it is so difficult for me?" I asked. "It's easy. Only you need Io be patient." He Ping answered. "Make sure that you lift the fishing rod when the whole flat has sunk. I'm sure a fish will greet you on the hook."
After a while the floats were swinging. I kept my breath and waked. The floats became still again. "Come on my hook, dear fish." I was saying to myself. In a moment the floats swang again and then sank abruptly, Just at that moment I lifted my fishing rod. To my delight I caught a fish. Grinning, I took it off the hook.
This gave me a great revelation(启示):Stamina(毅力) is what we need to achieve success. And it is more important to young people who usually lack it.
8. Why Do Students learn English?
English has been getting more and more popular in the last decade. Many countries have made English taught as the second language in schools. But why do students need English? If they do need, what do they need it for?
Different students learn English for different purposes. Most of the students learn English because they need to read English textbooks or journals and attend English lectures, while a few students use it to talk to English-speaking visitors, attend seminars, or write letters and reports.
Whatever the purposes are, one thing is certain: Students need English, and English teaching should be strengthened in universities. However, the current teaching methods should be improved and the teaching materials should be updated to satisfy their needs.

About English study
Study English,You do need to use English with speakers who are not teachers of English. This isn＇t easy, since everyone feels constrained speaking English with friends with whom it would be natural to use a shared mother tongue. Joining an English Club is a good idea and joining a club with an international membership (where English is in use at least some of the time) is, for many people, even better. If nothing like this is accessible, you might consider what would be involved in getting something going.
IWater Pollution（水污染）
Everybody knows that there is serious problem of water pollution on the earth. Yes, water pollution is increasing.
Look! The water in the river is getting dirtier and dirtier. Most of fish in the water have died, and we can’t swim in the water.
My grandfather says, when he was very little, the water in the river was very clean. He often swam in the river with his friends.

The longing summer vacation is approaching, it is the best part of the school year for me. I cannot let the holidays elapse (逝去) meaninglessly, my vacation should be a phase (时期、阶段) of harvest. The events in my plan should give me a sense of infinite potential.
The following plan may reveal the intensity of my desire to travel, work and study in this vacation. In the first few days I want to climb Mount Hua Shan with several friends to refresh ourselves. Then I tend to visit relatives, senior school teachers and former classmates(老同学). Besides, to find out the best ways to cultivate my abilities, I will find a part time job and conduct some social investigation.
In short, I want to do interesting things in the summer vacation. Whatever I do, the goal is the same: to get necessary experience, acquire knowledge and broaden my horizons. Though the six week vacation will pass away at lightning speed, its influence is bound to last long.
Happy Things in My Childhood（童年趣事）
It is impossible to recall all the past, but I can assure you that my childhood is a pleasant one to me. When I was in kindergarten, I was very popular with my playmates because of my naughtiness. Once I made an arrow, with which I hurt one of my playmates and received scolding from my mother afterwards.
When I grew up, my father and mother dare not allow me to play outside. But sometimes when we had time they would bring me to the parks, movies and went swimming.
I liked swimming very much. Thank them for teaching me swimming. I liked to play with my play games because I was only a boy. My mother often scolded me when I didn't get home after school but never too severely.
