申请学校材料——个人陈述（Personal Statement）的写作技巧

申请国外的学校不同于国内的高考录取，一般学生需要自己准备必要的材料，其中的个人陈述，也就是人们常说的PS是最为重要的一部分。

在PS的写作中，学生应对自己的学习经历、所获成绩、学习方向、兴趣爱好及为何选择申请某所学校的原因一一列出，以证明自己的诚意和能够进一步学习的能力。具体来讲，在第一段中，学生需作一个简单的自我介绍，并详细指出欲申请学校的名称及专业的名称。例如：

Personal Statement

I am the applicant ****, graduating from Wuhan University with a Bachelor’s Degree. Driven by my keen interest in this field and in order to scale a higher intellectual height, I would like to apply for **** that **** offers.

接下来则陈述学生的教育经历和所取得的成绩，例如：

The year 2001 witnessed my enrollment in Wuhan University, where I majored in Business English. Wuhan University is a key university directly under the administration of the Education Ministry of the People's Republic of China and listed in Project 211. It is located in Hubei Province's capital Wuhan known as "The thoroughfare leading to nine provinces". Benefited from the brilliant achievements achieved during the past hundred years and stimulated by the new challenge, Wuhan University is working hard for building a number of disciplines with the first-rate levels in the world, bring development in the relevant discipline circles of the world, achieving a large number of achievements in basic theoretical and high-technological studies, which are important, creative and even epoch-making, and fostering quite many personnel having high qualities and original ideas. In the four years’ university studies, I, a persistent student with strong studying ability, firmly believed that the period at university was a golden time for me to acquire knowledge and grow from a student to a social adult, which was also of vital importance for my whole life. Hence all along, I studied every course seriously and achieved excellent academic records, ranking top in our class. 以下则是陈述自己为何有能力胜任学习这一课程，例如：

I’m passionate for exploration because I own great curiosity for the unknown things, and I believe there will be nothing that blocks my pursuit of new theory and knowledge. I have extensive interests such as sports and music, and in the spare time I often relax myself in such ways. Besides, thanks to the practice as a student leader of our class at university, I improved great my personal ability. In the social work I did at university, I learnt much in the realm of management and communication. Meanwhile, I also kept a harmonious relationship with my peers. Clearly knowing what they really needed, I served them heart and soul and gained high efficiency and quality. Thus, I have confidence that my quality deserves your favorable consideration.

所谓众里寻她千百度，选择学校是人生中很重要的一步，所以必须慎重。那么为何在芸芸院校中偏偏选择了她？学生需要作明确的陈述，例如：

All along, I admire UK so much, and I am also a fan of the style of gentleman. I deem that I have laid a solid foundation of essential knowledge, and I’m eager to further pursue more advanced concepts in this field through studying your distinguished program. I expect to go to UK, a marvelous developed country to achieve my goals. Boasting her long history and advanced economy, UK possesses first-class quality education and teaching facilities. Meanwhile, with her beautiful campus, advanced managerial experience, dense academia, strong faculty team as well as so many excellent graduates, your reputable university enjoys a good fame particularly for the field I choose to study. I believe, studying there, I would greatly increase my knowledge, improve my comprehensive capacity and make an important pace to realize my value in life.

末尾一部分，也就是通常的套话（礼貌用语），而特别针对留学申请的学生来说，最好阐明自己只是去求学，毕业后仍希望回国效力，这是基于签证申请时应该考虑的问题，以免签证官误会申请人出国的动机不纯。例如：

After graduation, I hope to return to my motherland and pursue a suitable post to display my advantage to the fullest extent, perfectly combining what I would have acquired in UK with the practical situation of our country and carving out my own career.

I’m looking forward to your prompt and favorable reply! Thank you very much for your kind processing.

最后，需要提示的是，申请国外的学校，一定要认真准备自己的个人陈述，它是学校了解学生的第一个窗口，对offer的给予与否具有十分重要的意义。
