How are you doing ,dear listeners ?I’m Abigail ! Welcome to listen to Sunshine English ! In my part ,the key word is Out door sport . Outdoor sport means exercising outdoor .And it usually refers to mountain climbing ,camping ,rock climbing ,ice climbing ,bungee

jumping ,drifting ,surfing ,gliding ,hiking ,skiing ,grass

skiing ,diving ,downhill cycling ,cross country cycling ,balloon ,and so on .Speaking of outdoor ,maybe many of you could have deep feeling .Of course we need to mention the famous outdoor group ,Fengyun student organization ,founded in December 4th 2003 ,which is the largest student organization of China Agricultural University . Feng means peak of the mountain .Yun means purity .Fengyun has the similar pronunciation of the word Gengyun .It has made significant influence ,attracting a large number of people from both inside and outside school coming to join in .I’m also one of them .Maybe in later program ,I will give you a particular

introduction of Fengyun organization . Fengyun student organization is primarily engaged in rock climbing , so ,today’s point is the very rock climbing .

For many people ,mountaineering is not only relaxation or a hobby but also a test of nerve and skills .A successful rock climbing will create a sense of achievement .For climbers ,it’s a proof of their

strength ,bravery and intelligence .Rock-climbing is the original extreme sport .Basically ,rock climbing is going from the bottom of a wall to the top and then back down again .The mean goal is to have fun while doing so and not to die ,although there’re lots of safety procedures. Its roots go back at least 200 years to the explorers of the high Alps and Himalayas and probably even further .Also it’s a dangerous sport that requires experience ,skill and a cool head . Maybe it will make your hair stand on end when you looks down at hundreds of feet of empty .But if you’re the right type of person to do it ,a whole new world of vertical fun will open up .

Moving up a rock using fixed or placed protecting as a means of progression is known in the US as sixth class climbing .Aid route is what can only be ascended using aid climbing techniques .When climbers meet a big wall ,the climbing may last several days .

The safest way to get started is to go to an indoor climbing gym .The “rock” walls a an indoor gym are not really made of rock at all .They are usually tall wooden walls with hard plastic handholds set at various angles .The handholds feel like rock ,and allow the climbers to have as realistic an experience as possible .Climbing gyms have many

advantages .They are safe because experienced climbers are always around .People can learn from instructors how to belay-to hold a

partner’s rope while he or she is climbing .You can also take classes

that teach important safety skills .Furthermore ,you don’t have to buy lots of expensive equipment . Gyms usually provide rope and rent

shoes ,harnesses and belaying devices .And let’s face it :when you can use an indoor gym ,there’s no excuse to skip practice on a rainy day . Bicycle frames are usually made out of materials like carbon fiber, steel or aluminum. But in rural Ghana, a businessman has developed another way to make bicycles from a natural product -- bamboo.

Bamboo does not get much respect in Ghana. Farmers think of bamboo as an unwanted plant that needs to be cleared from their land. Construction workers use it to support buildings while they are being built.

But Kwabena Danso thinks bamboo is much more valuable. He operates a business called Booomers International. His company makes bicycle frames out of bamboo. The wooden bike parts are sent from Mr. Danso's village to other countries, including Germany, the Netherlands and Australia.

Kwabena Danso says bamboo can help a country like Ghana in many ways. He says he wants to, in his words, "get the people to know that there's a great advantage to bamboo."

Young men from nearby villages come to work at Booomers International. They sand, glue and connect the bamboo frames. The company makes about 50 of the bicycle frames each month. The bamboo is grown locally. The glue to hold the parts together is made of flour from the cassava plant.

Mr. Danso says Booomers International provides good jobs to young men like Abdul Razak. He serves as a foreman or supervisor for the company. Mr. Razak says that without this job, he would still be living at home with his parents. He adds that the job helps him a lot.

Kwabena Danso has sold only a few of his bamboo bicycle frames within Ghana. Walter Kudzodzi is one of his customers. He bought a bicycle earlier this year. Mr. Kudzodzi says his bike gets a lot of attention when he rides around his neighborhood.

"For example on Saturday, I rode about five kilometers around my neighborhood and everywhere I went, people were just looking at me. And once and a while you hear the exclamation, ‘Hey, it's made out of bamboo, hey, that's the bamboo bicycle,' yeah know, and anytime I stopped to take a breather, people come close to me and say, ‘Wow, we heard about this, but this is the first time we've seen it. Is it functional?' Does it work? I say yeah, try it."

Mr. Danso's business has received lots of orders for his bicycles. He says Booomers is ready for expansion. He hopes to have more of his bamboo frames not just in foreign countries, but also on the roads of Ghana.
