Dear Mr. Wang,

Knowing that our library is going to buy books, I’d like to give some suggestions.

What we need most are popular science books. Usually popular science books explain basic principles of nature in a simple and interesting way. They help us understand science subjects better and arouse our curiosity about scientific discoveries.

In addition to reading for knowledge, we read for fun and inspiration. That is why I recommend another category of books：literary books. Classic works, written by masters, present great thoughts through fascinating stories and language. They not only offer us joy and excitement, but also encourage us to think critically.

I’ll be glad if you can consider my recommendation.

    I still remember how I became a good table tennis player.

    The first day I went to high school, I saw some of my classmates playing table tennis. Amazed how skillful they were, I was determined to be just as good. Later on, I watched them carefully  to learn their techniques. Then I kept practicing until I became confident enough to challenge the good players. At the end of the term i became one of the best players in my class.

    I am really proud of this experience, because it helps me realize that we all can fulfill our potential and achieve our goals through hard work. It also helps me better understand the proverb”Practice makes perfect.”

It’s true that our future is determined by many things, such as opportunities and help from others, but our own attitude, determination, and hard work play a more important role. In other words, we are the master of our own future.

     Take Abraham Lincoln, for example. He was born in a poor family, and only received a limited education in his childhood. Yet through his painstaking efforts, he changed not only his own fate but also the history of America. Even to this day, Lincoln is regarded as one of the most inspiring figures in the world. Therefore, I firmly believe that our future is in our own hands.

 Mr. Headmaster,

I am Li Yue, a student from Class 1, Senior II. I am writing to draw your attention to some improper behaviour among us students: littering and scribbling. It makes our school dirty and unpleasant, and does hard to the image of our school. I always feel ashamed whenever I see this. It is clearly not appropriate for a student to litter and scribble about. I wonder if the school could place more dustbins around and set up specific rules against such behaviour. At the same time, students should be encouraged to develop good habits and better behave themselves. I believe that, with the joint efforts of both teachers and students, our school will become a more enjoyable place in the near future.

Star Student of the Week

       Li Yue has been awarded the title of “Star Student of the Week” for what she did for the class. On the hot afternoon of last Saturday, Li Yue went downtown and walked from one store to another, looking for the costumes we would wear in the singing contest. While the rest of us were enjoying our leasure time in cool and comfotable rooms, she spent the whole afternoon researching and selecting. Finally she found the right clothes. Deeply moved by her effort, we tried our best and won the first prize in the contest.

       Li Yue is always warm-hearted and cares a lot about the class. Besides, she devoted her spare time to helping others. She set a good example for us. Therefore, she deserves the hnour and we should learn from her.

Student Volunteers Brought Sunshine to the Elderly

    On May Day, Li Yue and Zhang Hua, students from Class Three, Grade Two, went to Sunshine Nursing Home and did some voluntary work. Upon their arrival, Li Yue and Zhang Hua were warmly welcomed, and respectfully, they presented the elderly with flowers and fruits. Then, they started working at once, cleaning the windows and sweeping the floor. Everything done, they sat in the yard chatting with the elderly people.

    When it was time for the volunteers to leave, the elderly people thanked them for their kindness. They said it was such a beautiful day that they would remember it forever.

    Li Yue and Zhang Hua were very happy. What they did has brought joy to others and enriched their own lives.

    There are basically two ways to get work done. One is to work individually. In this way, people can decide for themselves when to start work and how to do it. What’s more, they will be able to learn bow to solve problems on their own.

People may also choose to work in a team, where they can learn from each other and help each other. Besides, they may work out better ways to get work done by discussion.

Personally, I prefer to work in a team, which offers me a chance to learn how to get along with others and to share my experiences with them. As the work can be divided among several people, it can be done efficiently. Teamwork is always important.

I prefer my English classes to be taught in English only . As we all know , a good learning environment is vital if we want to study English well . Classes taught in English provide students with such an environment . When English is the only language used in the classroom , students will have more opportunities to practisse listening and speaking . Therefore , they will be able to learn more quickly .

However , there are also some problems with this teaching method . As we haven’t mastered enough English words , sometimes we may find it difficult to follow the teacher . Slow learners may even lose interest in English .

Practice makes perfect . To learn English well requires a lot of practice. Therefore , I like my English classes to be taught completely in English .

I prefer my English classes to be taught in both Chinese and English . In my opinion , learning English is a step-by-step process. As middle school students , we only have a small vocabulary . If the teacher can use some Chinese in an English class , we will understand the lesson better .

Of course , an English class taught in two languages has its shortcomings . Such a class cannot create a good atmosphere for English learning . Some students will speak Chinese all the time cannot learn English well.
