格言

奥林匹克格言（Olympic Motto）亦称奥林匹克口号。奥林匹克运动有一句著名的格言：“更快、更高、更强（Citius, Altius, Fortius）”。这一格言是顾拜旦的好友、巴黎阿奎埃尔修道院院长迪东（Henri Didon）在他的学生举行的一次户外运动会上，鼓励学生们时说过的一句话，他说：“在这里，你们的口号是：更快、更高、更强。”

顾拜旦借用过来将这句话用于奥林匹克运动。他曾经对此作出自己的理解，这或许是对奥林匹克精神最好的阐释：

"The most important thing in the Olympic Games is not to win but to take part, just as the most important thing in life is not the triumph but the struggle. The essential thing is not to have conquered but to have fought well."

（“奥运会最重要的不是胜利，而是参与；正如在生活中最重要的事情不是成功，而是奋斗；但最本质的事情并不是征服，而是奋力拼搏。”） 19xx年，国际奥委会将其正式确认“更快、更高、更强(英文：Faster，Higher，Stronger)为奥林匹克格言，在19xx年安特卫普奥运会上首次使用。此后，奥林匹克格言的拉丁文“Citius,Altius,Fortius”出现在国际奥委会的各种出版物上。奥林匹克格言充分表达了奥林匹克运动所倡导的不断进取、永不满足的奋斗精神。虽然只有短短的六个字，但其含义却非常丰富，它不仅表示在竞技运动中要不畏强手、敢于斗争、敢于胜利，而且鼓励人们在自己的生活和工作中不甘于平庸、要朝气蓬勃、永远进取、超越自我，将自己的潜能发挥到极限。

精神

《奥林匹克宪章》指出，奥林匹克精神就是相互了解、友谊、团结和公平竞争的精神。奥林匹克精神对奥林匹克运动具有十分重要的指导作用。首先，奥林匹克精神强调对文化差异的容忍和理解。其次，奥林匹克精神强调竞技运动的公平与公正。人人平等，实现更高、更快、更强的理想。正如已故美国著名黑人田径运动员杰西·欧文斯所说“在体育运动中，人们学到的不仅仅是比赛，还有尊重他人、生活伦理、如何度过自己的一生以及如何对待自己的同类。”

宗旨

《奥林匹克宪章》指出，奥林匹克运动的宗旨是：“通过没有任何岐视、具有奥林匹克精神——以友谊、团结和公平竞争的精神相互理解的体育活动来教育青年，从而为建立一个和平的更美好的世界作出贡献。”

在奥运会期间，奖章应由国际奥委会主席（或由他选定的委员）在有关的国际单项体育联合会主席（或其代表）陪同下颁发。通常情况下，在每项比赛结束后，立即在举行比赛的场地以下述方式颁奖：获得前三名的

运动员身着正式服装或运动服登上领奖台，面向官员席。冠军所站的位置稍高，然后宣布他们的名字。冠军代表团的旗帜应从中央旗杆升起，第二名和第三名代表团的旗帜分别从紧靠中央旗杆右和左侧的旗杆升起。奏冠军代表团的国歌时，所有奖章获得者都应面向旗帜。
