The little prince.

For a long time, I’ve always tried to find someone unique. A humorous one? Tall one? Or a guy with charming eyes? Who knows actually why do people chase for unique objects on this planet? The little prince does.

He owns a whole planet, where there are three volcanoes coming up to his knees, and the only rose who calls herself unique in all the world. He loves her in heart and soul, when she is arrogant all the time. He leads a life making his planet in perfect order until one day the prince escapes from the home he lives and travels to other different planets.

He meets various people, encounters diverse circumstances: the king, who thinks himself reigning over the universe, the conceited man, taking anyone visiting him as his admirer , the tippler, drinking to forget the shame of drinking, the businessman, claiming his ownership of all the planets and counting them time and time again…… He calls them “strange and odd grown-ups”.

Finally he arrives on earth—a planet which has good reputation. but the earth is not an ordinary planet, it is so large that only a desert can break the prince will of finding human beings, only a hill can making him redefine “mountain” from the only three volcanoes as high as his knees.

The first inhabitant welcoming him is a snake. From snake, little prince finds the tininess of human and the way back to his home. In next days, he encounters a garden of roses, figuring out that his rose never is as unique as he imagined, his rose belongs to the countless roses on earth, commonly and ordinarily. The fact drives him realize that what he owned can’t make him a great prince, until he meets the fox, who teaches him the principle of tameness, and the uniqueness’s cultivation from taming.

At last, the little prince goes back to his home under the help of that snake. No one knows what will happen when he reunite with his rose after all that. But who cares? Every night, we can listen to the stars, like five hundred million little bells. When we look up to the sky, there might be a little prince with blonde hair, staring at

you with his eyes wide opened at the same time. Isn’t it gorgeous?

After reading the Little Prince, I find myself becoming a little bit upset. Critics observed that when you are able to understand this story, you are no longer a kid. In this account, I suppose I’m kind of an “odd grown-up”. Words often fail me when I want to express a strong emotion, but this type of depression penetrates me in a tender, soft way. There was more than one hour during which I couldn’t say a word. What on earth are those “odd grown-ups”? Why the hell does the little prince fall in love with a rose who pretends to be delicate and never understands the principle of treasure him back?

Then I searched for the author’s information. I gradually get to it. Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, was a French aristocrat, writer, poet, and pioneering aviator. He lost his father, the most essential teacher and friend in his childhood. As a pilot, he took part in the World War II and finally disappeared in the sky, as the end of his short life. From the background of the narrator of the story, I can tell the little prince is far more than just a fairy tale for children. It contains so much explosion of the weird society as well as queer people, and so much inspiration of the responsibility for love.

About the king, he represented a group of people who take themselves as the power-holder. They regard everything runs as they ordered to. Even though they themselves are aware of they have been hooked by their lies, they still enjoy in the ridiculous game. As for the conceited man, maybe it wasn’t, but it is the most possible phenomenon to be seen in today’s society. When the little prince visits him, he goes: ”oh! Here comes another admirer!” But the truth he chose to ignore is there never is a person admiring him even for a second. How pathetic! When it comes to the businessman, counting his stars over and over again, take his behavior as his mission in life while no body could proof his ownership. Furthermore, it can be distinguished by anyone except him that he is producing flowers but bearing no fruits. It is a fairy tale intended for adults. Sarcasm and metaphor are throughout the story.

But this story is also filled with positive aspects. Just like the king said: ”accepted authority rests first of all on reason. I have the right to require obedience because my orders are reasonable.” The author tells readers what the right decisions are at the same time. Here I want to relate it to the so called “tame” appeared in the book from time to time.

It is an act too often neglected. It means to establish ties. If you tame me, then we shall need each other. To us, we will be the unique in all the world to each other.—This is the explain from the fox about “tame”. As for me, it is the responsibility for love indeed.

What moves me so deeply, about this little prince, is his loyalty to a flower. The image of a rose that shines through his whole being like a flame of a lamp. “I ought to judge by deeds not by words. She cast her fragrance and her radiance over me. I ought never to have run away from her… I ought to have guessed all the affection that lay behind her poor little stratagems, flowers are so inconsistent! But I was too young to know how to love her.” Actually I was deeply moved by the word said by little prince. It is the magic of ”tame”. The rose is so ordinary among all the living things, but she tamed the little prince. So she became the unique one. She is more important than any other hundreds of beautiful roses: because it is she that he watered, because it is she that he put under the glass globe, because it is she that he sheltered behind the screen, because it is for her that he killed the caterpillars, because it is she that he listened to, when she grumbled, boasted, or even sometimes when she said nothing. Because she is his rose.

A boy once told me this story between the little prince and the rose. That was after I asked him what if I was not special, what if I became, or I always was among those ordinary girls. He quoted this story. I was not so profoundly touched at the moment until recently I finished this book. I finally got to know that I do have a place in his heart, Even though that could not count as “tame”. It is significant to become unique and successful, but being someone’s rose, from a certain perspective, is definitely a more important.

This essay is written word by word all by myself, because I can find the significance of this story. Hope that every one can finally find his rose and her little prince.

第二篇:英文读后感 Little Women

Book Review of Little Women

Recently I have been absorbed in a book Little Women, and I learn a lot after reading the book. Little Women is written by American author Louisa May Alcott, mainly telling a growing story about four girls, Meg, Jo, Amy, Beth.

The four girls live in a poor family, with their father March leaving the home to follow the allies forces. However, their mother Mrs. March, a very optimistic woman, keep in high spirit with her daughters to go through the poor and difficult time. The four girls with four different characters gradually learn to love each other , overcome their shortcomings in characters and finally live a happy marriage life excepts the poor Beth who died unfortunately and early.

In the story, what impresses me most is about their generosity. It happened on a Christmas, Mrs. March asked the four girls to send their few breakfast to their neighbor, a poor woman with a little newborn baby. Although the four girls had been very hungry and waited for their breakfast for a long time, they still sent their breakfast as presents to their poorer neighbor happily, cause they thought they could help others. What a kind and noble heart they had. And their optimistic attitude moves me so much. I think if all human beings learn this kind of kindness and learn to be optimistic about and be grateful to the life, we will live a happier and more harmonious life.

Besides, I really appreciate Jo’s concept about love. At first, she fell in love with her rich, handsome and young neighbor, Laurie, who grew up with her in childhood. But she refused his love and met and chose a poor professor, who was nearly 40 years old and made a living by teaching. Cause she made it clear that she just like Laurie but didn’t love him. And she was deeply attracted by the professor’s merciful heart and they fell in love with each other and got married at last. In my opinion, Jo is very wise and she does know what she want and what she doesn’t want in love. And I think we girls should learn it from Jo to meet our real Mr. Right in our life, and at last live a happy life.
