A STUDY ON MATHEMATICS

With the growth of ages, the distinction between men and women in mathematics became more and more remarkable!

In order to make a deeper research, we made a survey for some freshmen in our university. First, we had chosen three classes from different department, all students from those classes had to answer a questionnaire. Then, in the light of those answers and their usual scores, we made statistical analysis and summarize.

We had prepared three questions for the questionnaire. As to the mathematics acts more and more important roles in our social development, we provide our first question “ Are you interested in math very much ? ”, 64% of men answer “Yes” and only 40% of women gave the same answers. Most of students thought the mathematical was too difficult for them. Next, we gave the second question “ How do you like to think the mathematics relate to your lives ?”, To this question, no matter men and women, most of students answered “a little” or “nothing”. This due to them lack of awareness for mathematics. In fact, Mathematics can explain many phenomenon in our lives.If you can deal with something in mathematical methods, you can find your work more efficient, convenient and interesting. Our last question is “Do you like to think about mathematical problem by yourself” 35% of men and 28% of women answered “Yes”.The data reveal both men and women should improve their ability of studying independently.

According to the data, the men isn’t largely advantage of women in mathematic.In fact, the men keep more optimistic and confident than the women in studying mathematics. Mathematics is really a difficult subject. But it is easy very much if you have enough confidence ,strong perseverance and interest. For example, the famous Chinese mathematician Chen Jinrun took tens of years to create Chen Theorem. Though his theorem only prove “one add two equal to three”, it is one of the greatest achievement in mathematical history. Someone thought it was easy, boring and meaningless. If you can view the achievement in mathematical sight, you can found it has infinite value and it can help solve many deep problem in Mathematics. So the key to study mathematics is that you are willing to spending more and more time on it.
