Pride and Prejudice

Recently I have read a very well--known book, Pride and Prejudice written by Jane Austen from United Kingdom. Jane Austen (16 December 1775 – 18 July 1817) was an English novelist whose works of romantic fiction, set among the landed gentry, gave her a place as one of the most widely read writers in English literature. Her realism and ironic social comments have gained her historical importance among scholars and critics. She was educated primarily by her father and older brothers as well as through her own reading. The eternal support of her family was critical to her development as a professional writer.

The story is set at the turn of the 19th century, it retains a fascination for modern readers, continuing near the top of lists of 'most loved books' such as The Big Read. It has become one of the most popular novels in English literature and receives considerable attention from literary scholars. Modern interest in the book has resulted in a number of dramatic adaptations and an abundant number of novels and stories

imitating Austen's memorable characters or themes. In total, the book has sold some 20 million copies worldwide.

As for the main characters, they are Elizabeth Bennet, Mr. Darcy, Mr. Bennet, Jane Bennet and so on. Elizabeth Bennet is the female leading role of the novel. The second of the Bennet daughters, she is 20

years old and is intelligent, lively, attractive and witty but with a tendency to judge on impression and perhaps to be a little on which she bases her judgments. Mr Fitzwilliam Darcy is the male leading role of the novel. Twenty-eight years old and unmarried, Mr. Darcy is also the rich owner of the famous family Heritage of Pemberley in Derbyshire, and is heard to be worth at least ten thousand pounds a year. He is handsome, tall, and intelligent, but rather anti-social, his social manners and integrity are seen by many as an excessive pride.

In my humble opinion, this famous book can reflect writer’s concept about marriage. It is wrong for people to get married just for bucks. But it is also unwise to do it without taking outer circumstances into account. But in this novel, Mr. Darcy gave her a proposal only to receive rejection. The reasons why he got rejection were that Elizabeth had much bias and Abhorrence to him especially hated his pride. But having seen series of Mr. Darcy’s reaction about solving matters, she gradually wiped out these disgusting and awful feelings. And at length, they stepped into the paradise of marriage and led a fantastic life.

Elizabeth has several different attitudes to Darcy’s proposals, which in fact reflects the personality of female independence and the pursuit of equal rights. That is to say, the figure, Elizabeth has a progressive significance in that age. It is a real reflection of the end of the

eighteenth Century to nineteenth Century when people led a conservative

and occlusion of the British town life. Whether it is Elizabeth or Darcy authors believe that positive characters, or ironic Collins. Such objects are written in a true and moving way. At the same time, Austen's language is through the temper, and she stresses the art of dialogue humor, satire. This kind of artistic innovation can make her work full of its own

characteristics. Pride and Prejudice is a combination of magic words and true feelings for best performance.

In today’s society, people are after nothing but bucks, which is absolutely wrong. And it is known to us that love built on money isn’t true love. We should build up a new concept of money. Money can not become a symbol of noble personality which is cultivated by

circumstances or other factors. All we need to do is establish our inner beauty such as confidence, wisdom, intelligence, optimism and so on. With time passing by, we may lose our money, but what we will never throw away is our unique personality. So in my daily life, I will pay more attention to my own personality rather than bucks. It can make a big difference in my future life, and will help me go through all difficulties. To sum up, we need to improve our full qualities covering rich

knowledge and outstanding personality. It is of great importance for us to focus on them. There is also no point in just pursuing the money which is not so essential as we expect. And I believe some day life will give us much privilege in return.

Pride and Prejudice is a novel written by the famous English writer, Jane Austen, who was the sixth children in a family of seven and was born in the village of steventon in Hampshire in 1775 and died of Addison’s disease in 1817. The book first published on 28 January 1813 by the bookseller Thomas Egerton who had also published Sense and Sensibility, the original version of the novel was written in 1796-1797 under the title First Impressions .

Pride and Prejudice is a love story, mainly tells the love between Elizabeth and Darcy. It divided into 2 volumes and is composed of 42 chapters altogether. The major characters are Mr. Darcy, A rich and proud young man. Elizabeth, the second eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bennet. Mr. Bingley , A rich young bachelor. Jane, the first daughter of Mr. and Mrs.Bennet. The story begin with Bingley’s arrival. One day when Mrs.Bennet hear Bingley has taken

Netherfield, a house near her’s. She is so happy and arranged one of her five daughters marriage with him. At a ball, luckly, Bingley and Jane fall in love at the first sight. Darcy, a friend of Bingley’s , was attracted to Elizabeth, a lively and spirited girl. But Darcy greatly offends her by his supercilious behavior and this dislike is increased by Wickham, a dashing young militia officer of the unjust treatment he has met with at Darcy's hands. One day when Darcy and Bingley’s two sisters disgusted with the vulgarity of Mrs. Bennet and her two youngest daughters, effectively separated Bingley and Jane. Meanwhile, Collins, a cousin of Mr. and Mrs. Bennet, married charlotte, a friend of Elizabeth’s, for Elizabeth’s refuse to marry him. But One day Darcy send

Elizabeth a letter, in which he justifies the separation of his friend Bingley and Jane and make it clear that Wickham is. So Elizabeth changed her opinions and ideas toward him. Once when Elizabeth visited her uncle and aunt in the north of England, she met Darcy there and witnessed his changes through series of behaviors, no longer pride and become gentle and attentive, all these made their marriage arranged, and they also suitably provided for Bingley and Jane’s reunited and engaged. The story ends with both their happy marriages.

My point of view towards the masterpiece of Jane Austen’s is that this novel reflects the English human sentiment of the end of 18th century and the early of 19th century under the circumstance of conservative, and tells us the difference ways and attitudes to marriage of Mr. and Mrs. Bennet’s five

daughters’. Thereby reveal the author herself attitude towards marriage, that is love and marriage based on money, property and social status is not perfect, but it is also stupid Without considering all of these. There, the author

emphasize the importance of ideal marriage, meanwhile, to be opposed to love & marriage based on money or property and to be opposed to people’s laugh love & marriage off. The author takes the affection/love as the cornerstone of ideal marriage between male and female. Elizabeth as the leading character in this novel, was born in the family of squireen’s, and is loved by Darcy. Darcy propose marriage to her in spite of difference in the possession of property and social status, but is refused by Elizabeth for his pride , the novel demonstrate that if the pride of Darcy’s existed , there will be no love and also happy marriage between Elizabeth and he, it is really nice that Elizabeth witness the changes of Darcy’s through series of behavior in the following days. viewing that he is no longer pride and then eliminating her prejudice to him, finally engaged with him and leading a happy marriage. The author described that female is in pursuit of independent personality and equal right through several different attitudes of Elizabeth for Darcy’s propose marriage. Meanwhile,

demonstrate Elizabeth’s independent understanding for a happy marriage. In this article, the writer described several unperfect marriages of Elizabeth’s sisters and close friends, aimed at making a sharp contrast with Elizabeth’s beatific marriage and revealed that marriage without love but base on social status and property actually is a kind of public tragedies. Humorous, ironical, polished language and real storyline is also occurred in this article.

1.Jane Austen's tale of love and economics reaches us once more with the energy of a thorough novelty. "Pride and Prejudice" has been a favorite novel of mine since I first read it and I've seen Laurence Olivier and Greer Garson, Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle and now Matthew MacFadyen and Kiera Knightly. Amazingly enough I've never been disappointed. The material seems to be full proof. Colin Firth's Darcy, in many ways, is the Darcy I've always imagined. He's been an actor I've followed feverishly since his glorious Adrian LeDuc in "Apartment Zero", Matthew MacFadyen was totally new to me but he managed to create that sense of longing that makes that final pay off so satisfying. Kiera Knightly is a ravishing revelation. I must confess, I didn't remotely imagined that she was capable of the powerful range she brilliantly shows here. The other big surprise is Joe Wright, the director, in his feature film debut which is more than promising, it's extraordinary. The photography, the art direction and the spectacular supporting cast, in particular Donald Sutherland and Brenda Blethyn, makes this new version of a perennial classic a memorable evening at the movies

2.Pride and Prejudice was an absolutely fantastic film. A great cast, and Keira Knightly did an excellent job and Matthew Macfadyen was a wonderful in the role of Mr Darcy. The cinematography was so ridiculously good, there were some fantastic shots and the costumes were also fantastic. The script was fairly good, it is true to the classic by Jane Austen, Mr Wickam could have made more of an appearance, and had a striking resemblance to one Orlando Bloom. The movie moved fairly fast but trying to fit such a novel into two hours had to be hard anyway, so I say well done to all involved, as such a beloved book can be a hard project to take on, but after watching it I really can't wait until to see it again!!!
