  Can you swim?

No, I can't. I hate to get water in my ears and nose.

  Do you like swimming?

Yes, I am crazy about swimming especially butterfly stroke and breaststroke. I believe swimming can help me build up my body and makes me keep a trim figure.

Have you ever tried to learn to swim?

Not yet. Although I want to learn I know absolutely nothing about swimming. No floating, no doggie paddle, I can't even kick the right way. It's hard for me to get a start.

Did you learn to swim when you were a child?

Yes, I did. But it isn't the regular swimming stroke like butterfly stroke. It's doggy-paddling.

  Who taught you to swim?

My dad threw me into the swimming pool when I was five. I caught on pretty quickly with the water wings. Then, I took swimming lesson. I learned professional swimming stroke from the lifeguard.

How did you learn to swim?

As I remember, my uncle took me to take a swimming course when I was 10 years old. During that 15-day course, the instructor taught us swimming from ABC. We need to practice holding breath under water and floating on the water surface as the first step. On the last day, we had a small test of swimming across the pool to demonstrate our real capability. It was great fun.

Where do people go swimming in your hometown?

In Wuhan, people mostly go to public swimming pools if they want to swim. Some of these facilities are pretty affordable. Also some communities have their own swimming pool, and this is truly convenient for residents living there. Then the last choice would be the Yangtze River. Even though this is not so clean and a little risky at the same time, many people actually swim there, coz after all you have to pay nothing for it.

Is swimming very popular in China?

It's popular in china. Many communities have their own swimming pool and swimming club.

Why do many people like swimming?

Swimming has been recognized as an aerobic exercise which is good for building your aerobic system. Swimming is physically demanding but it won't give you strong muscle but beautiful figure.

What do you think are the benefits of swimming?

I feel swimming is quite necessary to learn not only as a way of exercise but also as a life-saving skill. Clearly, swimming is an all-round exercise to keep us in good shape. And in some special cases, people who know how to swim would be more likely to survive. Also you can't forget how much fun you can get from swimming itself. So swimming is definitely something deserves learning.

How do children learn to swim?

For children, there are mainly two ways to learn swimming. One is attending some swimming course and the other is instructed by parents. Formal classes would be more professional but you need to pay extra money. However, learning from family cost you almost nothing and the time is rather flexible as well.

Do you prefer to swim in the sea or in a swimming pool?

If I had to choose, I'd favor swimming in a swimming pool because it is safer in the swimming pool but there are many uncertain factors in the sea. The swimming pool is much smaller and not so complex. Besides, there is at least one professional safety guard at the pool in case of any emergency.

Do you think it's good to have compulsory swimming lessons for children?

I think it should be taught in schools as part of the PE curriculum. Especially for kids in those island regions, it is important for kids to have basic swimming skills. When they find themselves in an emergency it can make a difference.

  以上就是太傻网雅思频道为大家整理的雅思口语范文:Swimming,非常实用,希望对大家的备考有所帮助。

The Yuexiu Park is the second place I?d like to recommend. It consists of a large park, with many gardens and a lake. In addition, the city?s symbol, the Statue of Five Rams, is located in the park. There are many other sites in the city that are worthwhile visiting, such as Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, Chen Clan Academy and the CITIC Building, which is the highest architectural attraction in Guangzhou.

There are many places that I like. If I had to choose one place, I would like to tell you about Tianhe East Railway Square. It is the largest square in Guangzhou. The main crop in my hometown is, I?m afraid, skyscrapers, rather than wheat or corn, or something like that. You can see people plant bricks everyday, and months later skyscrapers grow up. or ( 5 - 6 ):

In our region many crops are grown. For example, one would find all kinds of vegetables in the fields of this region. In addition, many farmers have orchards. 15. What are the people like in your hometown? ( 7 - 8 )

15. Can you tell me something about the character of the people in your hometown?

Well, they aren?t any different from the inhabitants in any other large city. For example, here we also have many wholesome families as well as our share of criminal elements in the society. In addition, I believe that my hometown has not been westernized to the same extent as a city like Hong Kong. For example, in Guangzhou the people have not become materialistic to the same extent as the inhabitants of Hong Kong. In other words, in Guangzhou you would still find many good old-fashioned - 2 -

28. Is your job important to you? ( 7 - 8 )

The job means almost everything to me except my family. It provides a chance for me to serve my community and my country. For example, when my company builds a new road, people living along the road benefit from our work. At the same time, I personally get pride and the sense of achievement from the job. After we have completed a road, I am proud to drive on the road with my family and explain to them what was involved during the building of the road.

口语Part1范文:FAMILY

a) GENERAL

31. Could you tell me something about your family? ( 5 - 8 )

- 4 -

Certainly. My family is a typical Chinese one. It consists of my father, my mother and me. I am the only child. My grandparents passed away when I was still very young, so I did not have the privilege of knowing them. My father was one of their four children, and my mother has a brother, so I have a number of uncles and aunts and many cousins.

32. What do you think of the One-Child Policy in China? ( 5 - 6 )

That?s a tough question. I think we have to have the policy in China. Our population had been growing to rapidly and something drastic had to be done. Besides, the policy will give China a chance to move ahead in the world. What I mean to say is that as soon as the population growth has stabilized, China will be able to make progress in the fight against unemployment.

32. What do you think of the One-Child Policy in China? ( 7 - 8 )

That?s a controversial question in China. In my opinion, the policy has both merits and shortcomings. The policy is one of the most effective tools to solve the increasing problem of overpopulation in the country. On the other hand, the One-Child Policy has been extremely harsh on the people. It violates basic human rights. For example, it deprives women of their fertility rights.

33. Why do people in China traditionally want to have a son? ( 5 - 8 )

That?s an interesting question. I believe the most important reason lies in fathers. They want their children to carry their name into the future. Only sons can fulfill the task. For example, in many western countries it is customary for a boy to receive his grandfather?s name. A second reason that I could mention is that parents worry about what will happen to them after they retired. They feel that when they have a son he would be able to provide for them in future.

34. Who does most of the shopping in your family? ( 5 - 8 )

As far as this topic is concerned, I would say that my mother does most of the shopping, but my father and I will do some shopping from time to time. My parents allow me to buy my own clothes. The last thing I would like to mention that my mother does not like my father?s smoking habit and therefore refuses to buy cigarettes, so that my father has to do that kind of shopping himself.

35. Who does most of the cooking in your family? ( 5 - 8 )

My mother does most of the cooking, but my father and I will do some cooking from time to time. For example, sometimes when my mother is out the whole day doing voluntary work in our community and then my father and I will do the cooking for her. The second aspect I could tell you regarding this topic is that we often eat out. For example, often on a Friday night none of us feel like cooking, and then we visit one of the local restaurants, and have our favorite dish.

36. How does your family feel about you going abroad? ( 5 - 8 )

They feel very happy about it and give me 100% support. I believe my parents will be very proud if I may achieve a degree at a university abroad. In addition, they themselves never had the opportunity to study in foreign countries. Since I am their only child, they would do anything in their power to allow me to have the opportunity.

c) CHILDREN

47. Are there any traditions around the birth of a baby in your region? ( 5 - 8 )

Yes, there are quite a few. After the baby is born, the father will give his wife some flowers, and take photographs of the baby and her. When the baby arrives at home, the parents will make prints of its hands and feet. The prints, together with a paintbrush made by using some of the babies hair, will be kept as souvenirs.

48. What kind of parent do you intend to be? ( 5 - 8 )

That?s a good question. I?d like to mention the following points in this regard. First of all, I would love my child unconditionally. What I mean is that I know my child is not perfect, but I will still love him/her even if he/she has made mistakes. Next, I would like to be a strict but fair parent. I will not give my child too many freedoms, but I will also try to understand and satisfy his/her needs.

49. What hopes or fears do you have concerning your children? ( 5 - 8 )

That?s an interesting question. What makes I worry most is that my children will have a very tough life. I wonder if they will have work to do since unemployment rate is so high even now. I hope that they will be happy. They will find a good spouse, have children and live together in peace and love, just like the ending of a fairy tale.

50. What type of culture do you want your child to grow up in? ( 5 - 8 )

That?s a broad question. I?d like to mention the following points: first and foremost, I would like my child to grow up in a culture of love. That is, the circumstances in our home will be full of love and understanding. Furthermore, I hope my child will grow up in a - 5 -

culture where the finer things in life are important. Things like music, art, and studying should be part of his life from the beginning.

51. Are you going to bring your children up differently from the way you were brought up? Why? ( 5 - 8 )

No, not really. I believe my parents raised me well and gave me a good education. If I could do the same for my child I would be happy. Maybe I would be a bit more modern. For example, I believe my parents were unreasonably strict at times. I would try and keep a balance between discipline and freedom.

d) WOMAN

52. Is there any sex discrimination in China? ( 5 - 8 )

52. Describe the position of woman in China? ( 5 - 8 )

Sex discrimination against women can still be found in China though the country has tried very hard to eliminate it. One obvious example is that women who are doing exactly the same job as men are getting smaller salaries. Moreover, women are not considered for certain high level positions, say, in government. In addition, in many communities in China, women are still regarded as inferior to men. This is particularly true in the rural areas. Last but not the least, parents prefer to have a boy as opposed to a girl. This is against the nature, as it will upset the balance between men and women in China in the years to come.

53. What are the causes of sex discrimination? ( 5 - 8 )

One of the main reasons regarding this topic that I would like to highlight is the fact that men often determine the wages in the companies. Next, women are not seen as able to do certain jobs as well as men. For instance, construction work has always been seen as a man?s job. Lastly, many men still have the traditional idea that a woman should stay at home, raise the kids and serve her husband.

53. What are the causes of sex discrimination? ( 7 - 8 )

That?s an interesting question. Allow me to explain myself by shortly mentioning the following points: Firstly, I believe that discrimination against woman have deep roots in societies all over the world. In other words, it is not a present day phenomenon. Throughout history woman have not enjoyed the same status as men. It is only recently that woman have been filling the same positions as men in the work place. Lastly, I believe that it will take much more time to eradicate this practice. For example, as more and more woman become the sole breadwinners in families, they will have to be compensated as such irrespective of their sex.

54. Should housewives be paid a salary by the government? Why? (5-8)

Yes, I believe housewives should be paid a salary by the government. Firstly, to be a housewife is a job just as any other, and one should be paid for what you are doing. Secondly, the more housewives there are, the better. For example, housewives can spend more time with their babies, and so lay the foundation of healthy relationships.

Surfing on the Internet is of course very time consuming, so I don?t really have time for anything else.

56. Do you often watch TV? What is your favorite program? ( 5 - 8 )

Yes, I often watch TV. My favorite program is called ?Discovery?. It is not a science fiction but a documentary on real life events and happenings. Last week it explained how some birds have adapted themselves to survive in a desert.

- 6 -

57. Do you think watching TV is a waste of time? ( 5 - 8 )

No, I don?t think so. We can learn a lot from watching TV and it is a good way to relax. Soap operas help me to relax, while the documentaries are informative. Lastly, I believe that TV has become the best source of information these days. For example, it is a fast and convenient way to find out about the latest news from all over the world.

b) FRIENDS

58. What does friendship mean to you? ( 5 - 8 )

Friendship is of great importance to me because I believe that it lays solid foundation for many of our relationships. Husbands and wives, for example, should be friends. In addition, I need friends to help me when I am in trouble. I know this sound selfish, but I feel that it is one of the reasons why I have friends, and they would not mind me saying so. 60. Do you prefer to be alone or to be with friends? ( 5 - 6 )

I prefer to be with my friends. Please allow me to explain. At work I spend most of my time alone in my office. So after work I like the company of other people. I often invite some of my friends over, and we listen to our favorite music, or just chat the whole evening.

60. Do you prefer to be alone or to be with friends? ( 7 - 8 )

It depends. Sometimes I prefer to be alone. For example, after a hard day at work I just want to relax without anybody disturbing me. Those are the times that I might meditate on the meaning of life for example, or just savour some fond memories. On the other hand, sometimes I want to be with my friends. For example, over weekends, I like to go out with them and enjoy their stimulating company.

61. What do you usually do with your friends? ( 5 - 6 )

We do a lot of things together. Visiting net bars is one of them. We go there to play computer games or surf the net to have a chat with young people abroad. We often spend hours there at a time. The other interest we share is to play basketball. We usually challenge another group to play against us.

61. What do you usually do with your friends? ( 7 - 8 )

We usually go to the movies. My friends and I like cartoons very much, so we find out in the newspaper where a new cartoon is being showed and go and watch it. These movies are from Hong Kong or Hollywood, and have famous actors like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Tom Cruise playing in them.

62. What do you usually do on weekdays and on weekends? ( 5 - 6 )

On weekdays I go to school. On weekends I like to stay at home. I can easily spend a weekend watching TV and just relaxing. For example, I like the soap operas like ?Friends? and so on. I know the characters in Friends very well by now, some of whom I love and some I hate. I know that some of the plots are silly and overdramatic, but it is good entertainment for relaxation, as I don?t have to think very hard to follow the stories.

d) OUTINGS

- 7 -

63. What do you usually do when you go out? ( 5 - 6 )

63. What do you usually do when you go out? ( 5 - 6 )

63. What do you usually do when you go out? ( 7 - 8 )

66. Describe a book that you have read recently. ( 7 - 8 )

I have recently read a book about the history of South Africa. It is called ? The Covenant?, and was written by a famous American author called James Mitchener. It describes the history from the very first days, up to the present. It covers all aspects of the country, but focuses on the people of the country. By the Internet I can do some research right away, and thus gain a broader perspective on the subject at hand.

HOBBIES

68. Do you have a hobby? ( 5 - 8 )

- 8 -

Yes, I?m interested in stamp collecting. I have been collecting stamps for two years. I regularly spend time on my collection, about two hours every week. This is mainly over weekends, as I do not have time during the week.

69. Why have you chosen this hobby? ( 5 - 6 )

Stamps provide rich knowledge. For example, the stamps from other countries often tell something about the countries and their people.

69. Why have you chosen this hobby? ( 7 - 8 )

The hobby provides fun as well as knowledge. First of all, when you collect stamps, you are able to learn more about the world, and you will not be bored easily. What I mean to say is that you can get stamps from every country in the world, and the stamps from other countries often tell something about the countries and their people. Another reason is that you are able to meet new friends through your hobby. If you have a common interest with someone else, then you can discuss your collections together for many hours and it?s easy for both of you to become friends. One more thing, the hobby will teach you some self-discipline and how to be very systematic. That is to say, you have to arrange your collections regularly, which cultivates your habit of being systematic.

70. What are good hobbies, and what are bad hobbies? ( 5 - 8 )

In my opinion, good hobbies are those that give you the opportunity to develop a new skill. For example, collecting stamps teaches you how to be systematic. Bad hobbies, on the other hand, may make you lose the opportunity. For example, TV and computer games will waste a lot of your time, so you don?t have time and energy to do develop other skills.

g) COLORS

71. What color do you like? Why? ( 5 - 6 )

71. What color do you like? Why? ( 7 - 8 )

If I had to describe my favorite color, I would choose yellow. Many artists are known to use yellow in their paintings. For example, South Africa has a broad yellow band in their newly designed flag. This symbolizes the energy and warmth to be found in the nation.

71. What color do you like? Why? ( 7 - 8 )

Yellow is my favorite color. First of all, to me, yellow symbolizes the sun. What I mean to say is that it reminds me of energy and warmth. Secondly, yellow is a bright color as apposed to dull colors like brown and gray. For instance, brown and gray usually make me feel depressed. Lastly, I would like to mention that yellow is a practical color. That is to say, you can wear yellow with almost any color, and it does not get dirty too easily.

72. Do colors have some symbolic meaning in China? ( 5 - 8 )

Yes, colors certainly have a lot of meaning in China. Please allow me to explain. Firstly, it is significant that the national flag of China has a red background. Red is symbolic, for example, of a vibrant life, which we believe are one of the dominant characteristics of the country and its people. It also signifies good luck, so a bride would wear some red on her wedding day. In addition, I think that yellow has a specific meaning to Chinese people. For example, we believe that it symbolizes the energy radiated by the sun, which in turn is the primary source of life. In addition, however, it also signifies the obscene, as apposed to blue in the most of the western cultures. For example, here a ?blue movie?, would be called a ?yellow movie?. Lastly, I think that white has a special meaning to us. To be more specific, in times of sadness and mourning, we use white to express our feelings, as apposed to black in most of the western cultures.

Yes, I go to the cinema as often as possible. I believe that films are a wonderful form of art. In films there are a wide range of genres ranging from comedy and drama, to horror and science fiction. For example, recently I have seen the movie ?Titanic?, which has been described as the most expensive film ever made. The extent to which the producers attended to the details of the original ship was astounding. Another example would be the thriller ?Silence of the Lambs? with my favorite actor Anthony Hopkins playing the leading role. It had me on the edge of my seat for most of the time.

75. Do you often go to the theater? ( 5 - 8 )

No. I have never been to the theater. It is too expensive for me. I prefer to go to the cinema. Secondly, I believe that the theater is boring. What I mean to say is that the actors are on the same stage the whole time. I cannot see how that can be as exciting as a good movie.

76. What kinds of movies do you like best? ( 5 - 8 )

I like comedies. First of all, comedies are of great fun. What I mean is that I have a good laugh while watching them. Secondly, comedies seldom contain violent scenes. For example, Robbie Williams in ?Mrs. Doubtfire? is considered one of the most extraordinary performances ever by an actor.

77. Who is your favorite movie star? Describe him / her. ( 5 - 8 )

Lastly, pop music is simple to understand. That is to say, I like it because it is not difficult to understand, and it helps me to relax after I have been studying hard for some time.

80. How long do you listen to music everyday? ( 5 - 8 )

Oh, let me think for a while. I guess I listen to music for about half an hour every day. I would, for example, listen when I get home from school, or in the evenings before I go to bed. On weekends, however, I listen to music much more. For example, I would invite my best friend over to my place, and we would listen to our favorite CD?s for a few hours at a time.

k) TRAVELLING

81. Do you like traveling? ( 5 - 6 )

Yes, I like traveling. Firstly, I believe that traveling is always educational. What I mean to say is that the people that you meet along the way are usually interesting. Secondly, I wish I were able to travel more. For example, I have not traveled to a foreign - 10 -

In China I like to travel by train. Allow me to explain. Firstly, when I travel by train I am able to see more of China. In addition, the trains in China are convenient and comfortable. 84. What kind of places do you like to visit? ( 5 - 8 )

I like to visit places where there is a lot of entertainment. For example, I don?t like it when we go and visit my grandparents in the countryside. They live on a farm and don?t even have a computer for me to play on. I hope the places I go to have coffee shops and theaters at least.

l) Time

85. What do you think of time?

Describe a festival that is important in your country. You should say:

1) Your feeling about this festival

2) How people celebrate it

3) What your family does at this festival

雅思口语经典范文

- 13 -

And explain what is special about it.

It?s nothing more special than Spring Festival to Chinese people. Spring festival is the

beginning of the Chinese Lunar New Year. People usually get up very early on the first day of New Year praying for good luck. To some extent, this is more like a children?s festival. Because most of memories I had about it were left in childhood. Before celebration of the festival, every family is busy with decorating and cleaning the house and preparing New Year food. We treat this festival as a family union day. Generally, no matter how far you are from your home, you should go back to celebrate it with family members. The Spring

Festival lasts fifteen days. Comparatively speaking, the New Year Eve is more important to celebrate. Family members stay together and wait to see the new day coming. Making 103 169

jiaozi is very important part of this festival; it is really a sign of family union. Moreover, jiao zi also means good luck. After New Year dinner, the most happiest moment for children is to come, fireworks time. And after that, children will get lucky money from their parents, grandparents and some other relatives. A new day is on the way.

Yes, there is. Some people no longer stay at home to celebrate festivals, they go out to have a travel.

Do you think festivals will disappear?

No, of course not. Festivals are a great part of life; life will be colorless without them. What’s the function of festivals?

To give people great happiness, to give a chance for family reunion or reunion of friends, etc.

Are there any new festivals?

Yes, western festivals have come to China. They are very popular among young people. Such as Father?s Day, Mother?s Day, etc.

Do Chinese people celebrate western festivals?

Yes, they do, especially young people.

Do you think that western festival will replace the Chinese Festival?

No, they get along well in China and all of them bring great happiness to people.

A book you like

Part2:

Describe a book you like.

My favorite novel is “gone with theWind”, written by American writer MargaretMitchell. The book is set in American South during the Civil War and Reconstruction. The heroine is

Scarlett, a beautiful young girl but with a strong will and determination, who can deal with a nation at war, Atlanta burning, the Union Army carrying off everything from her beloved home Tara. However, she couldn?t figure out who is her true love till she finally loses that - 14 -

love. The handsome and smart guy who fell in love with Scarlett at first sight is Rhett Bulter. Though he knew Scarlett was crazy about another man, he still cared about her and tried everything to move her with his passion.

I read the book so many times in both English and Chinese version. What impressed me 72 169

most is the vitality and determination Scarlett has. During the war, the city was destroyed and the people were frustrated, but never did Scarlett. Standing on the red earth of her plantation Tara, she swore to herself that she would never be defeated. Scarlett made up her mind to strike out on her own. She got a famous saying: tomorrow is another day. With her shrewdness and perseverance, finally she survived and succeeded as everything around her died.

Whenever I got in difficulties, her words will linger in my mind. Tomorrow is another day. Though we maybe fail today, yet we still have tomorrow to look forward to.When I failed the college entrance exam 3 years ago, I didn?t give up and went abroad to continue my study. Now I have a successful career and a happy family.

Part3

What do young people like to read?

They like fashionable magazines, novels and love stories. Especially love stories

happened on internet. They think it is amazing and interesting.

Do people read books to get entertainment or for knowledge?

Some of them read it for entertainments. Some of them read it for knowledge. They choose different kinds of books for different aims.

Park

Part2

Describe a park or garden you have gone, you should say:

What is it like?

Why you like it?

What is it like when you go there the latest time?

And say why do you think it is beautiful?

I went to Yuexiu Park when I was in Guangzhou. There is a very big lake in it. The famous five-ram statue, the symbol of Guangzhou, is also in Yuexiu Park.We often take pictures in front of the statue. I went there last time when I decide to leave Guangzhou. it was still beautiful and quiet. Flowers boomed .I went Guangzhou Museum which is located in

Yuexiu Park. I like to go there to know more things about history of Guangzhou. And I can appreciate valuable collections of pottery and porcelain.

You can appreciate scenery and also gain knowledge when you visit Yuexiu Park. It is the reason I like.

Amusement park

botanical garden

national park

safari park

Part3

Should it build more parks in city?

Yes, it should build more parks in city. There are several advantages to building more parks. One is more parks can provide more space to let people exercise. Usually there are a lot of - 15 -

trees and green grasses can fresh air. It is beneficial to virescence.

Who should pay for it, the government or the individual?

Both of them should pay for it. The government and the individual can gain benefit from the park.

The government should pay the most part of the money and individual pay smaller one. Why do people in city need greenbelt?

32 169

Because the air in the city is usually polluted, so in order to make the air cleaner and the city more beautiful, people in the city need greenbelt.

Who should pay for building greenbelt?

I think the money should come from the taxes given by all the citizens, because the greenbelt is for the benefit of all the people.

A good friend

Part2

Talk about a good friend and how you met him/her?

How long ago did you meet him/her?

What were you doing when you met?

Why you think he/she is your best friend?

Kitty is my best friend as well as my classmate. We have known each other for over ten years. We are in the same class in high school. She is of medium height wearing a pair of gilt-framed spectacles. Her hair is long and dark. She likes to do sports, listen to music, and surf on the internet. She is good at tennis and, once, she won the first prize in a competition held by our school. She is a sociable person and so she makes friends easily. We go to school together everyday and often do sports or play games together. Some people even take us for twins. I think she is my trustworthy friend. I can tell her my secrets. When I am in low spirits, she will try her best to cheer me up. She always encourages me to overcome difficulties. I?m glad to have such a friend.

Part3

What’s the nature of a good friend?

A friend is the one who they can ask help from whenever they have trouble. There is an old saying that “A friend in need is a friend indeed.” So a friend would try his best to help others when they are in trouble. Even though he cannot help others, he will encourage them to face the difficulty of life. A friend is the one who can trust and depend upon.

What does friendship mean to you?

Well, that's a tough issue, let me think. I think it means almost everything to me except perhaps my family. Friendship, in my mind, means having people who you know will help you if you are ever in trouble. I think it's also people who you feel you can actually tell things to and they will listen. Friends are people who you don't need to be so polite to when you're asking them to go somewhere - you can just phone them up and tell them "let's go

somewhere" and you know they'll probably go. They are also people who have the same kind of sense of humour when you speak with them so that you will just laugh and laugh together.

What do you think is important in a friend?

I prefer having a real variety of friends. I think it's important just to want to be my friend in a sincere way.

- 16 -

Friendship is extremely important to me. It's like being brothers or sisters, but even more 57 169

than 'that. I mean, I would do nearly anything for my friend, and I'd expect that he'd do the same for me. If he didn't help me when I was in need, then I would not consider him a good friend. I have a lot of different kinds of friends and there's not really just one type of friend that I am friends with. What qualities do you think a good journalist needs? A journalist

must be responsible to his or her readers. Not only must a journalist be quick to react in any circumstance, but also he/she must always remember to uncover the real facts to the reader.

What do you consider to be a good way to spend time with friends?

I think the best way to spend time with friends is to go hiking and camping with them. You know, when you go traveling with them you may get in many disputes because you never know what your friend really wants to do. Traveling can create conflict, and sometimes you rarely have a moment just to sit down and chat with your friend. In my view, it's better to go camping because when you're camping you are not in any rush to go somewhere and there are fewer choices. You can just enjoy what you're doing. On the other hand, you

should make sure you're well organized when camping or you could have fights about what you should have done to prepare.

Friend

Part2

Describe one of your best friends.

You should say:

1) How did you met each other

2) How long you have known each other

3) How you do spend time together

And explain why you think he/she is your best friend.

I met my best friend while I was at university. He was in the same class. At first, he scolded me for leaning back on the chair, but, after a while, we began to become good friends. I used to meet him regularly at an Internet cafe. He went there regularly. We would spend hours there together. He would always lend a hand to me because I didn't know much about computers at that time.

He's a humble guy, never shows off his knowledge, even though he can. He's quite muscular and his hair is frizzy. He has very droopy eyes, like a puppy, and a very wide mouth. He?s sincere and doesn't mind mildly scolding you or even himself in all the same sentence. He is usually very sociable, but sometimes he can also be a bit shy. He is good at football and volleyball and used to be on the school team. We often play football together in our spare time.

I think the main reason we are such good friends is because we have a lot in common and we both have the same kind of humor. We also always support each other whenever we need help. I think we are such good friends because we don't feel we ever have to pretend 58 169

around each other, and we are really helpful to one another. I will remember him forever. Part 3

In what ways do people usually make friends in your country?

Well, all kinds of ways. I guess the most common way is by self-introduction. Maybe in your country you like to introduce yourself, but I guess we are a little more reserved and wait for - 17 -

an introduction. Other ways are as classmates. I think classmates are the most common form of friendships. You will find that these friends are more lasting than say colleagues from work.

What are the possible factors that cause friends to stop being friends?

I think it's usually jealousy. Often some friend gets jealous and then tries to do something harmful and the other friend find out and then the big trouble comes. I have seen this

happen so often. Another big one is money. One friend borrows money and the other friend has a difficult time getting it back. Another one is just selfishness by one party, which is

usually unintentional. For example, one friend keeps allowing the other to pay for his meals. He thinks his friend doesn't mind but actually he does.

What's the difference between the way children and adults make friends?

The main difference is that children start their friendships very accidentally and they don't really have to make so many gestures in words. Adults try to use the power of their words and their conversation to secure friendship. Children, on the other hand, just start sharing things or playing together, and instantly, if they enjoy being together, they continue the friendship. Also, children more quickly forgive their friends for the things they do wrong to each other but I think adults take matters more seriously.

A classmate

A classmate

Part2

Tell me about one of your classmate

You should say

Who the classmate is and how you met them

What the classmate is like

Whether you have a good relationship

And say whether other people in your class have a similar opinion of this person

I met my classmate Jack while I was at university. We were in the same class.

But he is warm-hearted, and often helps other classmates. When they have questions, he will

manage to answer. So if my classmates have questions, they are willing to ask him. He?s quite muscular and his hair is frizzy.

Most classmates think he is very clever and warm-hearted. Many classmates like to chat with him, because he is sociable and humorous.

I think he impressed me so deeply that I can?t forget him forever.

Part 3

Compare the difference between middle school and university life.

Well, middle school life is quite structured, and so all you really need to worry about are your grades and your friends. Your classmates are people you see everyday and your teachers are always on you about your behavior. There's a lot of stress about your exams - 18 -

and I'd say that learning is rather forced. With a university life you have to structure your life more on your own and you are responsible for your own behavior. The big challenge in university is not so much on getting good grade, but getting along with all your roommates in the dormitory.

A happy person

Part2

Tell me about a happy person

Who is he/she?

Where does he/she live?

What makes them so happy?

And explain whether other people have a similar opinion of this person.

Among the friends, he impresses me most. His name is XX. He became a handicapped person because of a bad accident at a young age. He lives in a peaceful town and now works in a post office. That is the profession he really likes. He thinks what he does is to deliver a sense of happiness to others. Though he is disabled, he never complains about the unjustness of his fate. I remembered he ever told me he lived for happiness. Once, I couldn?t help but ask him what makes you happy. His answer was clear and strong. “Fight 60 169

with fate”. At that time, I felt a little shamed. Nobody is perfect. He loves life and he earns enough money to support himself. Although it is easy for the “normal” people, he still

always enjoys his life despite his handicap. Friends like to share opinions with himbecause they feel that he can see something different from what they see in the same thing. That?s why he has many friends around him.

Part3

What does happiness mean to you?

Well, it's a big topic. To me it means you live a carefree life, though I think it's impossible to be always carefree. That's why many people think of their childhood as being their time of true happiness because it was a time when they had little to worry about. Also, I think having a lot of very good friends is part of being very happy. It makes me happy to have some close friends who have a lot in common with me. I think happiness will double when it's shared with friends. Finally, I think happiness is knowing that you are useful, and

knowing that you can help people when they need it. I feel happy to be able to help other people. I think it's pleasant to feel needed.

Do you think money is equal with happiness?

No, happiness is the most precious thing in the world. Money can buy most things but it cannot buy happiness. So they are not equal.

Who are happier, modern people or people in the past?

Well, people in the past are happier I think. They didn?t have many trouble and difficulties to overcome. And people are in a harmonious environment while people in the modern society are competitive all the time. So people in the past live in light-hearted life.

A film

Kungfu Panda

- 19 -

Do you think people would adjust their taste to film as they are growing older?

Yes, of course they do. Children like to watch cartoon films, but most adults don?t like very much. Young people like films about love romance and thrillers, but people of old age may not. Old people mostly like to watch films convey deep meaning of life.

How do you think of the films in twenty years?

Perhaps there will be more new technologies used for making films and perhaps there will be new kinds of film which is hard to tell.

132 169

Do you think TV would take the place of cinema?

No, of course not. We can tell this from the prosperous film market. There are still a lot of people love to go to the theatre because it its different. You can not enjoy the fun of watching a film by sitting before the small TV set.

Do you think Chinese films would be popular in other countries?

Yes, I believe so. Because we have the culture which is peculiar in the world, if we give more attention to it and borrow or develop more new technologies from other countries, our film will be different and inviting.

What kind of film do you like?

I like the films which are romantic or are about the good aspect of human beings. And I also like comic films.

What films did you like when you were young?

Of course I likes cartoon films when I was young, because they were made for children and could arouse children?s interest immensely.

What films do you watch now?

Mostly I watch romantic films and comic films.

What can attract people to go to a cinema?

the atmosphere in the cinema is inviting, with so many people watching the same film and perhaps with the same reaction at the same time, for example, signing, weeping etc. How should they do to attract audience for cinema?

First, reduce the price. Most of us students don?t go to the cinema often is because it is too dear for us. Then, the cinema should make the condition of watching more comfortable. 131 169

What kind of film does your colleague and friends like?

Most of my female friends like the films express romance between lovers. But the male friends like thrillers better. All of them like comic films.

What is your opinion to the film violence?

I am repellent to any kinds of violence. I don?t understand why people try to use violence to attract audience and why there are really some people love to see that.

Pollution

Part2

Describe the pollution in your region.

You should say:

- 20 -

1) What the sources of the pollution are

2) What effect it has on the life of the people

3) What measures should be taken to reduce it

And explain why this is important.

With the development of science and technology, people are living a better life. However, it gives rise to environmental problem. For example, air pollution, water pollution and noises pollution.

Noises pollution is getting worse and worse nowadays. Usually, noises pollution often comes from traffic jam, which all the drivers sound their horns to show their impatience, but the result is all the people get annoyed by the sharp sound. Loud music from shop KTV and bar. It makes people unbearable. That?s terrible. Recently, a building is being constructed behind my house. Those workers are very dutiful. They work from morning till mid night. The noise is really of high decibel. I have not been able to sleep well for almost a whole month.

It has become a big problem now. To solve this problem, the government should enact laws to forbid the blowing of car horns in the streets, and to forbid construction during night. And we should limit the business time of the entertainment enterprises, especially the business time during the night. And what?s more, people should be aware that the noise is also a kind of pollution and control the noises they produce.

Part3

Is there any pollution in your city?

Of course there are many kinds of pollution, and they are quite severe. We have all the air, water and noises pollution due to various reasons, which are our own problems.

What’s the most serious pollution in your city?

In my opinion, the most serious pollution in my city is the air pollution. The blue sky is

usually grey, with dust flouting in the air. Every time when it rains, the first drops are actually drops of mud, which will leave ugly dark stains on your clothes or umbrellas.

What measures have been taken by the government to solve the problem?

The government has taken many measures to solve the problem, for example, to punish those who seriously cause the pollution, to try to make it clear to people the situation and encourage them to take actions for environmental protection.

What suggestions do you have to make to solve the pollution problem?

First, to take more strict measures to punish those factories which are cause water

pollution. Secondly, to reduce the usage of cars and encourage people to ride bicycles or take buses.

Activity

Part2

Describe what is your most favorite activity?

You should say:

1) Why do you like it?

2) When did you begin this activity?

3) The time you spend on it?

4) The benefit of the activity?

Playing bowling is my favorite activity. Actually bowling is a sport that just requires you to

roll a ball along the floor and to knock over some targets. Those targets are called bowling

pins. There are either 5 or 10 pins lined up about 20 meters in front of you. You just need to

knock them all down by rolling the balls down the aisle. If you can't knock them all down

then you can receive some points for ones you do knock down. The rules are not

complicated. You can't step over the line when you roll the ball down the aisle, and you

can't throw the ball. That's about it.

Playing bowling can exercise your concentrated spirit and your patience. So I think it is

suitable for me. The balls can be influenced by the slightest spin, so you have to give just

the right little flick of the wrist when you release it. It's not just a matter of keeping your arm

straight as many people assume. I play it once a week. I kept playing it for three years. I

had some tips about how to play it. If you just keep leaving it to luck, you will not improve,

but if you try different ways of releasing the ball you will inevitably find a consistent style.

Also, you need to know how to hold the ball. If you always cup the ball, you won?t be able

to create the kind of spin that knocks down balls efficiently.

I? m a bad-tempered person. Since I played bowling, I changed a lot. So playing bowing

not only exercises my body also, improves my personality.

Sport

Part2

Describe your favorite sport.

You should say:

1) What sport you like to play

2) How you play it

3) What benefits you get from it

And explain why you like it best.

Well, I picked a sport that I think is pretty easy to explain. I don't really know if you'd call it a

sport or not. Anyways, I chose bowling. Bowling is a sport that just requires you to roll a ball

along the floor and to knock over some targets. Those targets are called bowling pins.

- 23 -

There are either 5 or 10 pins lined up about 20 meters in front of you. You just need to knock them all down by rolling the balls down the aisle. If you can't knock them all down then you can receive some points for ones you do knock down. The rules are not

complicated. You can't step over the line when you roll the ball down the aisle, and you can't throw the ball. That's about it. The scoring system is done automatically these days. When I was young we had to manually calculate it, but nowadays it's easy.

I think the skill in bowling is really in how you practice your stroke when you release the ball. The balls can be influenced by the slightest spin, so you have to give just the right little flick of the wrist when you release it. It's not just a matter of keeping your arm straight as many people assume. So the best thing to do is just keep practicing and experimenting with

different ways to throw the ball. If you just keep leaving it to luck, you will not improve, but if you try different ways of releasing the ball you will inevitably find a consistent style. Also, you need to know how to hold the ball. If you always cup the ball, you won?t be able to create the kind of spin that knocks down balls efficiently.

Part3

What sports do you like to watch and play?

I?d like to watch many kinds of sports, especially table tennis and football games. But I am not good at these two kinds of sports. In my free time, I?d like to play badminton with my friends.

When do you watch?

I watch when there are important and excellent games, such as Olympic Games and the World Cup.

How do people do fitness training in china?

In China, many people like table tennis the best. Many people take running or jogging as a fitness training hobby. And also, there are more and more people go to gem regularly. What is the benefit of sports?

First, of course, it helps people to get fit. Then it can help people to go back in a good mood if they are depressed. Internationally speaking, it can help countries to build harmonious relationship with one other.

Should we have international sport events?

Yes, of course. It may help to build harmonious relationship between countries. And also, it will be an international or global festival for all the mankind, it?ll be very exciting.

Do you think that young people spend too much time studying, watching TV, and playing on computers rather than getting exercise and playing sports?

Yes, it has become a more and more serious problem. Children nowadays have much more homework than when we were young. And they have much less outdoor activities. Many of them addict to computer games.

If you could be really good at a sport, which sport would you choose?

I love to be good at table tennis. It is not dangerous, and it does not need a lot of strength. And also because it can be called our national sports, you?ll feel very pride to be good at it. Compare the kinds of sports that men and women prefer

Men prefer sports that are full of adventure or thrill, such as football, boxing etc. women prefer sports that need less strength and have less danger, such as table tennis,

badminton etc.

What are the most common sports in your country?

I think table tennis is the most common sports in China. First, it is because we have the - 24 -

best table tennis players in the world. Secondly, it doesn?t need much room and doesn?t require lots of money.

What are the attitudes of the Chinese towards the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games? Of course we are much excited about that. We all look forward to the coming of the year 2008. In the mean time, we are trying our best to make our country more and more beautiful.

An Organisation一个组织机构

Describe an organization (such as a company, a factory, a government organization or a student organization at school). You should say:

where this organization is

how you know about this organization

what this organization does

and explain how you feel about it.

I joined the Youth Volunteer Association (YVA) of my university when I was a junior. I have benefited a lot from that experience. There are many student organizations in my university. At the beginning of every new semester, there is a big day for all those clubs and associations to recruit. I joined the YVA because I wanted to help others. To my understanding, just like what I said at the recruitment interview, being a volunteer means to take out my personal time to do something for others. My first volunteering experience was to give English lessons to residents from a neighourhood. Due to the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, more people are willing to learn some basic English. I major in English, so I think maybe I could help these people with my expertise. We did it every weekend and kept doing it for almost three months. I not only gave lessons to people, more importantly, I communicated with them. Many of them are older than me. They come from all walks of life. They brought to class different life stories. I exchanged my school experiences with their social experiences. Sharing with them has added to my insight into the world I am living in, which was a good thing for someone like me who did not have much access to the real world outside school campus. My - 26 -

association offers the young good chance to be helpful, to get to know more people, to learn something that?s not written on the text book. Part 3 Working in an Organization What would you prefer to work in, a big organization or a small one? If I were a graduate freshly out of school, I would prefer to work in a big organization. Big organizations have advantages that small organizations don?t. As a new graduate, I cherish very much the future development opportunity that big organizations could offer. If I worked for many years, I would prefer to work in small organizations. They are less strict with the employees. They give me more space to turn my ideas into reality. What are the benefits of working in a small organization? It?s more flexible in terms of rules and limitations. People can create their own organization culture. With fewer people working for it, every one is important, every one?s voice can be heard. Besides, it?s easier for a small group of people to reach on an agreement on some issues. It cuts down the time organizations spend on decision making, which is a very good thing in today?s time-racing world. What are the benefits of working for a big organization? Working for a big organization makes me feel proud. I feel safer-I mean they cannot fire me any time they want to without giving a sound reason, unless I do something terribly wrong and cause great loss. It?s true that big organizations have countless rules and regulations. They seem quite a burden some time. But if I work hard and successfully finish every piece of task given by my boss, I will be approved and get what I deserve. Rules and regulations not only punish people, but also push us to work harder. Industries What kind of work do people do in your hometown? People do all kinds of work in my hometown. Teachers, businessmen, company employees, factory workers, doctor...the list is endless, as the economy develops all the time and every day there is new job opportunity. Economy development has cultivated many new jobs, such as hourly-paid workers, baby sitters for babies and for the old, private finance adviser etc. What service industries are there in your hometown? Our city is a famous tourist destination. We benefit a lot from tourism. With the development of tourism, hotel and restaurant business grows rapidly. Entertainment has also become an industry in recent few years. Traditional art forms have been replaced by modern art shows. Public transportation is another major service industry. The local government encourages its citizens to take public transport rather than driving private cars to work and school. What is the government doing to protect the environment (from industrial pollution produced by these factories)? The local government works a lot on developing public transportation. They produce more comfortable buses. They cut down bus ticket price in order to attract more commuters. This policy has greatly decreased the number of private cars running on the road. Therefore, air pollution is kept under control. At the same time, the government has made and carried out new policies to stop people spitting on the street or smoking in public places. I am totally for these policies.

Animal

Part2

Describe an animal in your country

What does it look like?

Where does it live?

How do you see it?

I saw the elephant when I was 5 years old. I was deeply impressed me by its giant with big

ears and long trunk. The elephant was very friendly. The elephant seems always smiling

with his open mouth.

75 169

I watched one program about elephant after several years. I got to know that they live a

carefree life in African safari parks. Elephants like to live in big families and the parents give

great care to the babies. They are kind and friendly with other animals and never behave

aggressively except when threatened by bigger animals. Normally an elephant can live for

about 50 years. When an old elephant knows he is dying, he will find a quiet place to die by

- 27 -

himself without bothering his family. In some countries like Thailand elephant is regarded as a divine animal which can bring luck and happiness to the people. They are also used as labor to deliver goods or trained to perform in the circus.

Now, it?s more difficult to find a wild elephant. Because many elephants were killed by people who want to get its ivory. We have to go to zoo to see the elephants. May be the government should take some measures to protect elephants.

Part3

Please say some other animal except it

Let me introduce a hamster is a kind of mouse, and it is smaller than a rat. It doesn't have long tail, and its mouth is not sharp. Hamsters have a lighter color, something like gray. I like hamsters because they are very cute and have a good temper. Moreover, hamsters like to run around a wheel and can go for 15-20 minutes without stopping. It is fascinating for me to watch them run. In addition it is easy to take care of the hamsters

What is the relationship between person and animal?

The relationship between person and animal is not very harmonious. Some people kill animals for money.

Why do people give birth to animal at home?

By giving birth to animals at home, people can assure the safety of them.

Do you think it is enough for the government to protecting animals?

No, I don't think the government has done enough. Kinds of animals distinct every day. Wild animal

Part2

Tell me about a wild animal

You should say:

1) What is it?

2) What it looks like?

3) Where it usually lives?

I saw the panda first time in a zoo. I like it very much. I collect much information from then on. Many people have seen pictures of the panda, and some have seen the panda in zoos. Most people think they look like interesting. It has a white coat with black fur around their eyes, on their ears, muzzle, legs and shoulders. The unique physical features of the 76 169

species include broad, flat molars and an enlarged wrist bone that functions as an

opposable thumb - both of these adaptations are used for holding, crushing and eating bamboo. I've had the pleasure of seeing pandas at the Giant Panda Breeding Research Base in Chengdu, which is a research station where about 10-12 pandas live. The base is quite large, so you can see them live naturally, and in much better conditions than at a zoo. At this place you are guaranteed to see pandas during their feeding times. I managed to watch them feeding and the thing that astonishes you is just how much they can eat. The thing that also strikes you about the panda is the "teddy bear look" that they have, and the way that they look at you makes you feel they are begging for you to take them home as a pet.

In my opinion, no animal better represents both the beauty and struggle of wildlife in China than the panda. The panda is, of course, an endangered species, because it is so fussy about its breeding, and so every panda alive today is special-like an emperor. I hope that the panda population will one day thrive again, but I think it is going to mean more of this - 28 -

kind of research station and I'll be happy if all the pandas in the zoos around the world can

be transferred into these more humane conditions at research stations.

Part3

How does the international society save the animal, which is going to die out?

The international society has published laws to protect those animals and by the mass

media the international society calls for the attention of all the people.

What does Chinese government do?

Chinese government also published laws to protect animals and there is more and more

attention paying to this matter.

What do animals do well in farming?

Some animals have much stronger bodies and much more strength than human beings

and by taming those people can use them for farming.

Are there any different uses of animals as experimental materials?

Yes, some are used for scientific reaserch, such as clone. Some are used for medical

reaserch for the benefit of human beings.

Why is the room for animals smaller?

Because they only use their rooms to sleep and they don't need bigger rooms

Well. As the development of the society, people will develop the forest and mountains

where animal live in. people occupy the room of animals, so the room is smaller.

Where can you see these animals?

In zoos and in the market which sells pets.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of protecting animals in zoo?

It is harm for animals to have viability. Once they set free, they can not live in the wild area.

However, it is safe to stay in the zoo. Workers feed the animals. They needn?t find food

themselves.

Have you ever keep animals?

Yes I fed a rabbit and a cat before, but they all died after several weeks. I feel sad and I

promised I would not keep animals any more.

Starting my own business is my dream and I also set about to do it. The very thing I want to do is to run a small bookstore near the university I ever studied. Doing business is not an easy thing and there are some things need to be repaired in advance. Firstly, I need to find the enough capital to do this. Secondly, I need to choose which site is good for a small bookshop. Moreover, I need to do some research to find out what kind of books the

university students like. Finally, it?s about the fitment of the bookshop, I need to consider what style will make readers comfortable and relaxed. I plan to provide some different 140 169

service from other bookstores, like offering some drinks and setting a big table or sofa for them to read. Most importantly, the management of bookstore is a key. I think what I should do is to meet the demands of the readers.

Part 3

Which is better, doing employee in large company or do boss yourself?

To me, to be an employee in a large company is better than to be a boss myself.

What skills do you need and what kind of subjects should u learn to run a company To run a company, one should have the potentials to be a leader, to decide important things, and to have knowledge concerning the management of a company.

Describe things that are learned in university and from the working experience.

In college, besides the knowledge of my major, I learned to take care of myself and to build harmonious relationship with my fellow students. From my short working experience, I learned how to communicate with different people and to be responsible for certain things. Which is more important if u want to run your own business?

Whether I have chosen the right people for me; whether the position of my company is good enough.

Restaurant

Part2

Describe the restaurant that you like best.

You should say:

1) The name of the restaurant

2) Where is it?

3) Why do you like it

4) And explain what make special to you?

The name of the restaurant is Xian Restaurant. It is located in the busiest street in Beijing. Many people have meal there every day. There are several reasons that I like the - 31 -

restaurant. First, for food, the restaurant has a variety of dishes and these dishes are separated by region.

For example, if you wanted to eat dishes from Sichuan, there would be a special menu and chef from that region. Or if you wanted to eat Cantonese style, they'd give you a special menu.

I like the restaurant that has a theme in its atmosphere. It is clean and is decorated with 27 169

many things to look at. Also the restaurant has a place to store your belongings. I think service is important. Xian Restaurant can provide satisfactory service. It has waiters and waitresses who have special skills like pouring tea and are experts at juggling plates and cutlery. They are always checking on your table to see if things are ok, like your teacup. It is comfortable to eat when the table has a very nice enamel base, because I prefer tables without tablecloths. And the most important reason is the price of the meal is reasonable. Xian Restaurant has its own specialty dishes. We called Yangroupaomo. It is a kind of flour food.

It is very delicious I think. I will eat this dish as long as I go to the restaurant.

Part3

Do you like to have dinner in restaurant?

No, I don?t like to have dinner in restaurant, because I dislike the food?s flavor in restaurant. There are too many monosodium glutamates in the dish. It is bad to my health. And I just can eat dishes on the menu. I cannot choose what I want to eat. The most important

reason is that it?s not comfortable to have dinner in restaurant. You can do anything when you have supper at home, but in a restaurant, it has formal rule you should follow. How do Chinese people learn cooking?

There several ways to learn cooking in China. One is learning cooking from cooking school. It is professional to learn cooking. People who want to be a cook will go to the school. Also you can learn cooking from books and TV program. In the TV program, you can learn it with the instructor.

What do you think of the western food?

Well, I really dislike western food very much, because I can not get used to the rest of it. The western food is quite different from Chinese food. Most of the dishes are fried or baked. I especially can not bear the taste of salads and cabbages in the hamburgers and other dishes. There is not much variety in dishes, unlike Chinese food. Most of the famous dishes of western food are fried, so they contain lots of fat, which is bad for people?s health, and will make people easily grow fat.

What do you think of fast food restaurants in your country?

As far as I'm concerned, the fast food restaurants are doing our country a favor because they help us learn the service techniques that are very successful. I mean take McDonalds for example. They _e such a huge success and their success has a reason. I mean, it's fast and efficient and clean. Also, the marketing techniques of these kinds of restaurants are quite sophisticated. I think we can learn form these restaurants even if we don't like fast food. If we were to stop them from being in our country, we might miss out learning from some of the most successful corporations in the history of the world.

Why do so many people like fast food in China?

You know I can't figure out that myself. I mean it's not that convenient. Sometimes at lunch you could be waiting to get to the front of the line for quite some time. It's not peaceful, it's - 32 -

noisy. The food is overpriced and not very nutritious. I think the real reason is that the

advertising and promotion is good and it has this kind of happy atmosphere that draws

people in. People also like the idea of just getting some privacy to chat freely and not

having to be controlled by some waiter or waitress. I also think a lot of people like to use

their fingers to eat to just for a change.

Foreign language you wang to learn 修改为:(Korean)

Foreign country

Part2

Describe foreign country that you haven?t been to, but you want to go there.

You should say:

1) Where is it?

2) Why do you want to go there?

3) When will you go there?

I want to go to Korea, which is to the east of China. On one hand, the Korean culture has a

deep influence in China. Most young people prefer having Korean dress, watching Korean

TV and learning Korean. We can say Korean means modern in whole Asian. On the other

hand, Korean people like China too. In Korea, there are more than 200 institutes having

majors about Chinese culture and more than 130 thousands middle school students

studying Chinese. I think visiting Korea means modern and hospitality. I plan to go to Seoul

next summer with my husband and my daughter. My daughter likes Korean songs and she

will have a good summer vocation in Korea.

Part3

Do you think holiday is necessary? Why?

Yes, because we are often under heavy work pressure, we need time to relax ourselves, to

refresh our brain. We can work efficiently after holiday.

Do you have foreign friends or teachers?

I have some foreign friends, and some just chat on msn. They are very kind and helpful.

How did they introduce the foreign country?

We often chat. And when we talk together, they will tellme what to do in their country. When

we have meal together, they will introduce food in their country.

What will people do in their holidays?

Usually, they will travel outside. Some people choose stay at home, but they will go

shopping during holiday.

What’s the difference between staying at home and traveling?

They are absolutely different. Staying at home can have a good rest. But if you choose

traveling, you will spend time and money, also cannot have good rest. However, traveling

outside can broaden you mind and get relax of yourself.
