大学英语全英说课稿

Unit 1 Attitude is Everything

    The content of my lesson is 21st Century Practical College English student’s Book3 Unit 1 Attitude is everything. I’ll be ready to begin with four parts. That is analysis of the teaching material, the teaching objectives, the teaching methods, key points and difficult points of the lesson and the teaching procedure. First, let me talk about the teaching material.

Part 1 Teaching Material:

  With the aim to improve student’s integral language competence, 21st century Practical College English is compulsory course for college students in preschool educational department. Each unit is arranged to compass comprehensive language points, including vocabulary, sentence structure, text structure analysis, and reading and writing skills. In addition, the book contains more oral and practical expressions than many other textbooks. As for this unit, it is about attitude It includes exercises and tasks that enable students to think about how to use positive attitude to solve problems that they meet in their studies and daily lives. After studying the teaching material,   the teaching objectives are the followings:

Part 2 Teaching objectives

1. Knowledge objectives:

a) The Ss can hear, read, and use the main sentence patterns;               

b) The Ss can understand the content of the lesson;

c) The Ss can master the basic language and skills to use attitude words and phrases.

2. Ability objectives:

(a) To develop the Ss’ abilities of listening, speaking and reading.

(b) To develop the Ss’ abilities of communication by learning the useful structures

3. Emotional objectives:

a) By doing the tasks and the passage, let Ss know positive attitude play an important role in our life. When something bad happens, we should look on the positive side of the situation.  

b) To enable the Ss to be optimistic and love life.

Now, let’s come to the important points and the difficult points.

1. Important points

a) Get Ss to know words expressions of attitude such as active, passive, confident, discourage

b) Get Ss to discuss with each other.

c) Get Ss retell the whole text.

2. Difficult points

a) Using the vocabulary and sentence structures learnt to talk about personal views on attitude.

b) Writing a short passage to show how they overcome the difficulties.

Part 3 Teaching Methodology

Part 5 Teaching procedures

Step 1 Lead in:

The Ss are asked to answer two questions:

1) When you find yourself faced with difficulty or troubled by something in your daily lives, what do you usually do?

2) What do you believe is a good attitude to take while studying at college?

For this part, the purpose is that the problems are common for students, so they are interested in finding the answers. And then they will find the person in the text also has the same questions as them. Therefore they transfer their interest into the text. 

Step 2 Warming up and pre-reading tasks:

1.the students are asked to listen to the tape about the text.

2.then they are asked to answer the questions

a) How would you describe Jerry according to the text?

b) What do you think the writer’s towards life

For this step, the Ss learn the text briefly and begin to think how Jerry use positive attitude to deal with difficulties and what the writer’s opinion.

Step 3 While-reading tasks:

1.      Fast reading

Ask Ss to do a fast reading and answer some questions based on the passage:

1)      Why did some waiters follow Jerry around from restaurant to restaurant?

2)      What made the writer still think of Jerry even after he had left the restaurant industry?

Divide the passage into 3 parts and summarize the main idea of each part

The 1st part: the idea of Jerry’ attitude.

The 2nd part: when he was held up at gunpoint, what did he react?

The 3rd part: the result of this story .

The Ss can master the general meaning of the text in the whole.

2 Careful reading:

a)Read the passage again and answer the questions.

(1) How did Jerry sum up his attitude about life?

(2) What did the writer learn from Jerry’s story?

For this step, Students further learn the text. Teacher asks Ss to read each paragraph in order to correct their intonation and pronunciation. Meanwhile, teacher explains language points and analyzes some difficult sentence pattern. Teacher explains some difficult sentences and also asks Ss to do some translation of simple sentences. Furthermore, teacher also explains the special usage of Subjunctive Mood, the usage of wish, the sentence pattern It is +adj +that…, and so on.

Step 4: Post-reading tasks:

Discussion: The text tells the positive attitude is so important that Jerry use to avoid the death. So teacher asks students to divide into three or four groups and discuss the question: If you can’t find a good job, what’s your attitude towards this problem?

Part 6 assignment:

(1) Retell the story.

(2) Finish the exercises on page 17 to page 21

Unit 4 American Dream

Text A  Tony Trivisonno’s American Dream

Teaching Plan

I Class Description &Teaching material

The class consists of the first year students majoring in Computer in xx university.

Textbook:New College English Integrated Course 1 (Shanghai Foreign Language Education Press) serves as the teaching material.

II Teaching Approach

Comprehensively applying various teaching methods:instruction

question and answer,discussion,interaction, imitation,exercise.

III Teaching Model

Treat listening & speaking as the main target,reading & writing as foundation and multi-media as assistance.

IV Teaching Objectives

Students will be able to

1) understand the main idea(Tony Trivisonno realized his American Dream through his own efforts) and structure of the text (one part telling the story of Tony’s life and the other giving

the author’s comments on it);

2) learn to describe a person by his/her characteristic features with supporting details;

3) grasp the key language points and grammatical structures in the text;

4) conduct a series of reading,listening,speaking,and writing

activities related to the theme of the unit.

V. Important and Difficult points

1) the implied meaning of some sentences;

2) the writing skills of describing a person;

3) the practical significance of this article.

VI. Teaching procedure

The 1st period  Warming Up

Step 1 introduction about American Dream and relative

background information.

Step 2 instructive discussion: What is the key to success? Ask the students give their opinions on the essence of the American

Dream.

Step 3 story telling:Tell a story of a successful person

Step 4 lead in to Text A

The 2nd period  Global Analysis of Text

Step 5 Go through the new words and expressions

Step 6 have students scan the text A to work out the structure(The

text can be divided into two parts---Tony’s story and the author’s

reflections) & main idea (Tony fulfilled his American Dream step

by step)of the text.

Step 7 Ask students to scan the text and circle all the time words

and phrases or sentences.

a. find six different time periods/intervals served as transitions

      between Tony’s steps toward his American Dream;

b. the text is about Tony’s steps toward success in America;

c. finish the content questions.

The 3rd period Language Study and Practice

Step 8 Explain the language points and have students practice

them

a. language points in each part;

b. grammar and difficult sentences;

c. ask students to do the structure exercises and words usage;

d. call students’ attention to the skills of describing a person by his/her own features with supporting details;

e. discuss with students the cultural background to the story;

Step 9 

a. the second part focusing on the author’s comments

b.text analysis---writing skills---time sequence in narration

The 4th period  After-text exercises

a. review useful expressions, spot dictation, word completion;

b. ask students to scan the text again and sum up the main idea

c.students are supposed to work alone or in pairs to find out the

important elements of Tony’s achieving his American Dream

(vision, determination, self-control, optimism, self-respect,

integrity,etc.);

d.discuss the writing strategy;

The 5th  period  Assignment

a.exercises on the textbook;

b.Write down a paper about a person by his/her features

VII Teaching Journals

Write down and analyze the whole class emotion, atmosphere and teaching effects to change for the better as kind of a teaching habit or my quality of instruction.
