邀请信是邀请亲朋好友或知名人士、专家等参加某项活
动时所发的约请性书信。在国际交往以及日常的各种社交活
动中，这类书信使用广泛。
邀请信分为两种：一种是正规的格式 (formal correspondence)，也叫做请柬;一种是非正规格式(informal correspondence)，就是一般的邀请信。
请柬通常有固定的格式，应注意文字排列精心设计，一般以一个或两个完整的意群为一行。一般用第三人称形式写作。
请帖有三种格式：
1. X invites you to a reception (party, etc.)at (place) on (date) at
(time).
2. You are warmly (cordially) invited to attend a reception
(party, etc.) at (place) on (date) at (time).
3. X requests the pleasure of your company (the company of
Mr.Y) at a reception (dinner, etc.) at (place) on (date) at
(time).
在这三种格式中，最后一种比较正式，其他两种比较随便。除了上述基本内容外，在请柬右下角一般还附有其他说明：一种是写R.S.V.P.（请答复），再写电话号码；或写For Regrets Only,意思是：如不能参加，请回话（反过来说，如能参加可不必答复）。一种是注明需要穿哪类服装，如果写Dress Informal, Dress Optional，意思是衣着随便；一般场合可不加注，或注Lounge Suit/ Day dress；正式场合注Black tie.
邀请信作为信的一种形式可参照一般书信的格式去写。但要掌握好下列几点：
1) 说明邀请对方参加什么活动、邀请的原因是什么。
2) 将活动安排的细节及注意事项告诉对方。诸如时间、地点、
参加人员、人数，做些什么样的准备及所穿的服饰等。
3) 为了方便安排活动，如有必要，可注明请对方予以回复看看
能否应邀及还有哪些要求等。
