       Li Yue has been awarded the title of “Star Student of the Week” for what she did for the class. On the hot afternoon of last Saturday, Li Yue went downtown and walked from one store to another, looking for the costumes we would wear in the singing contest. Student Volunteers Brought Sunshine to the Elderly

    On May Day, Li Yue and Zhang Hua, students from Class Three, Grade Two, went to Sunshine Nursing Home and did some voluntary work. Upon their arrival, Li Yue and Zhang Hua were warmly welcomed, and respectfully, they presented the elderly with flowers and fruits. Then, they started working at once, cleaning the windows and sweeping the floor. Everything done, they sat in the yard chatting with the elderly people.

    When it was time for the volunteers to leave, the elderly people thanked them for their kindness. They said it was such a beautiful day that they would remember it forever.

    Li Yue and Zhang Hua were very happy. What they did has brought joy to others and enriched their own lives.

    There are basically two ways to get work done. One is to work individually. In this way, people can decide for themselves when to start work and how to do it. What’s more, they will be able to learn bow to solve problems on their own.

People may also choose to work in a team, where they can learn from each other and help each other. Besides, they may work out better ways to get work done by discussion.

Personally, I prefer to work in a team, which offers me a chance to learn how to get along with others and to share my experiences with them. As the work can be divided among several people, it can be done efficiently. Teamwork is always important.

With the development of society, many people can afford a car. As the number of the cars is rising, we are facing some problems. One big problem is the pollution caused by the use of cares. In order to solve this problem, government agencies in some big cities recently suggest that a "pollution tax" should be put on private cars in order to control the number of cars and reduce pollution in the city. For my part, I agree to this viewpoint, and my reasons are as follows:

To begin with, cars contribute to the environmental pollution. For example, a lot of big cities in China are now plagued by serious air pollution. Then it is the responsibility of these private car owners to pay for the pollution and they should be taxed. The purpose of collecting environmental pollution tax is to raise the fund, and then utilize the tax revenue lever to protect our environment.

Secondly, it is a good way to raise people's environmental awareness by putting a pollution tax on private cars. If people suffer from the financial loss when making a decision, they will think more about their decision. Then they will consider more when deciding to buy a private car. Consequently, the increase rate of the number of the private cars can be controlled.

In a word, it is a very good and necessary attempt to use the means of taxation to treat the pollution. Of course, it must be kept in mind that all people, including the private car owners, should try their best to protect the environment.

According to a recent report, six university students hired cleaners to clean their dorm and do their laundry every week. Although we have no right to tell them what to do with their money, as a university student myself, I find this practice absurd.

For a start, away from our parents, it is in university that we learn to be independent adults. Cleaning the room and doing one's laundry are the most basic living skills. If we always depend on others do take care of us, how can we survive when there is no one to help us? How can we take on any responsibility when we step into society?

For another, the practice reflects their flippant attitude towards money. The money they paid for the cleaners probably comes from their parents, who must be very depressed once they know the truth. It also sets a very bad precedent on campus. Other students may follow suit to show the wealth of their families; or worse, they tend to think money can buy them anything in this world, which obviously is wrong.

All in all, I think we must do away with this practice. Otherwise, we may never appreciate the good value of money and an independent way of life. The better and sooner we can take care of us, the more proud our parents will be.

On one hand, volunteering makes you feel good about yourself on a purely selfish level. There are few things more satisfying than helping people. Hammering nails on a new home while the owner beams with pride right next to you is an amazing feeling. Walking or running to raise funds for a cause close to your heart helps to give you a sense of purpose and helps you realize just how lucky you are. As a volunteer, you will gain new perspective, for it’s so easy for us to get a little too wrapped up in our own lives. On the other hand, from a professional standpoint, volunteering is a great way to add to your portfolio. This is especially beneficial for students or young professionals, although all of us should continually work on building our portfolios.

Apart from the benefits of building up your confidence and making your portfolio better, there are probably many other benefits you will find in your volunteer work. So it is time for you to participate in more volunteer work to help others as well as help yourselves.

With the development of information technology, the world is becoming smaller and smaller. So making a friend online is more common than ever before. Developing friendship with a person online won’t be harmful. But to fall in love with a person online is not wise.

On one hand, if just developing friendship, we can take it easy. Some students regard chatting online with a stranger as a waste of time. To some degree, it is right. But we can get some fun when doing this, especially when we are depressed, because we won’t have to care about what to say. We can just complain or do something else. On the other hand, it is not wise to start a relationship with a person online. All things on the internet are unknown. You can’t even tell the gender when chatting with a person. So developing love with a person who is a stranger is just a daydream. Though there are also successful examples, most fail. People, especially students, should be cautious about developing love with a person online.

A person online can be a friend who shares your happiness and sorrow. But don’t fall in love with him or her. Above all, safety is the most important thing.

"Have you got a QQ?" This question is often heard among youngsters today. Making friends online has become a common scene these days. I do understand these parents and teachers because making friends online does harm to the youngsters in many ways.

There are two reasons supporting my point of view. For one thing, it is dangerous to chat on the internet. Many violent and sexual rubbishes filled the internet and a lot of people use disguising names, such as "a murder", "romance one night". Moreover, some people even use the name opposite to their real genders in order to mislead the young people. For another, making friends online may cause communication failure. Youngsters have no time or no intentions to talk to their parents about what has confused them. And therefore, they cannot get along well with people around them.

From the above two reasons, I can safely arrive at a conclusion that making friends online is not wise for the young people. I hope they are able to deal with this problem more consciously and carefully.

Internet, as one of the most important inventions of the twentieth century, has greatly changed our life. Nowadays, more and more young people have many friends online, which, as far as I am concerned, has more benefits than negative efforts.

Firstly, Internet enlarges our circle of friends considerably. No other ways of communication enable us to makes friends all around the world as easily as Internet does. As long as we can speak English or other foreign languages, we are able to chat with Americans, Japanese as well as European people, and therefore, to broaden our views by exposing ourselves to various cultures and experiences. Apart from that, we tend to be more honest and straightforward when we make online friends than in real life. Since in the cyberspace, we cannot see others’ faces, we do not have to worry about the negative results brought by direct communication. For instance, we are free to air our opinions on some sensitive issues of the society, and share our little secrets with our online friends with ease. In this way, online friendship gives rise to more openness and less stress or pressure at the same time.

While many people argue that making friends online is not stable or even dangerous, I posit that embracing this technological innovation by becoming a true netizen is definitely a wise choice.
