Tablet Inscriptions for Various Halls of Chaozhou Kaiyuan Temple
大雄宝殿
Mahāvīra Hall
大雄宝殿,亦称大殿、正殿,寺中心之殿宇,寺众在此朝暮礼诵及启建盛大法会。殿内供奉释迦佛、药师佛、弥陀佛,左右供奉十八罗汉。佛座后供奉白衣观音大士,憍陈如、优波离二尊者。殿为明代古建,存唐风遗韵,飞角重檐歇山顶,双滴水,红墙黄瓦;殿脊塑有飘带葫芦,脊端以龙头、卷草、天王造像嵌瓷。殿内八瓣状石柱是宋代遗物,殿墙外石栏板则为唐代遗物。
Mahāvīra Hall, also called the Main Hall, is the shrine located at the center of the temple. Monks recite or chant scriptures (morning and evening puja) and hold grand Dharma assemblies in the morning and dusk here. In the hall are enshrined ?ākyamuni Buddha, Bhai?ajyaguru Buddha and Amitābha Buddha, with the eighteen arhats enshrined on both the left and right. At the back of the Buddha seat is the Avalokite?vara Bodhisatva in white gown and Venerable Kau??inya and Venerable Upali. The hall is an architecture in the style of the Tang Dynasty but built in the Ming Dynasty, with flying angles and gable and hip roof(on tile edges for dripping water), red walls and yellow tiles; the ridge of the palace has gourds with flying ribbon while the ends of the ridge are carved with the porcelain dragon head, rolled grass and the statue of the Devarājā. The stone columns of the hall are left since the Song Dynasty, in a shape of eight folds while the stone column boards outside the hall are left since the Tang Dynasty.
