Book Report

These days I have finished reading an English book which named Guliver’s Travels. The author, Jonathan Swift builds the character who are crazy about traveling. The novel abounds in satire, exaggeration and weirdness.

The stories in Liliput and Brobdingnag attracted me, however, what impressed me most is Guliver’s traveling in Houyhnhnms. There are not any words like lying or deceive in their language. The Houyhnhnms don’t know what the word doubt is.

Guliver had a good time in Houyhnhnms and he almost join this society. As a consequence,his contact with yahoos formed a tremendous contrast. Communicating with yahoos, Guliver was always suspected, which let him down. Therefore, he was sick of human.

I frequently admire Guliver, because he was so lucky to enter into Houyhnhnms. Houyhnhnms are the perfect situation where we are going after and looking forward to. There you need not worry about whether others’ words are true or false. However, in our real world, there are more and more things that we do not want to see taking place around us. For example, some people gain other’s hard-earned money by cheating, some people abduct and traffic children in order to clean up, other people abandon their parents

I read a lot of psychological book and I learned more about people's psychological problems. So when I watch this movie, I focused a lot on the Psychology. of the actor and I was intersted in this book.

Identity is determined by genetic endowment, shaped by environment, and influenced by chance events. People are influenced by their environment and, in turn, influence their environment. He was born on this ship, never more than fit between prow and stern and the world passed me by. .He spent all his life in a boat. The environment was special, so he had a special character which was different form the other.

He never walked into the land. At a time, he decided to go to the land, but when walked in the half of the hanging ladder, he not dare to go down, and felt at lost. As he said “There were thousands of them! And how do you do it down there？How do you choose just one? I read the Chinese version of “Camille” a few years ago. At that time I was deeply moved by the main character Marguerite Gautier. “Camille” or “The Lady of the Camellias” by Alexandre Dumas, fils, is the story of Marguerite Gautier, a young courtesan, or kept woman, in Paris in the mid 1800's, and how she falls in love with a young man, Armand Duval, and then tries to escape from her questionable past. Unfortunately, it comes back to haunt her and she ends up returning to that life and dies painfully and alone, but with the knowledge that she was a noble woman at heart. When I first began to read the book, I did not care for Marguerite or her attitude or lifestyle, but as I got further into the narrative, I realized that her saucy attitude was a front to cover the lonely woman that she really was. She felt used, abused and unloved, until the gentle Armand Duval came into her life and showed her that he loved her as a person and not for what she could do for him. It must have taken great courage for Marguerite to leave the life she had lived for so long, knowing all along that it was probably too good to be true and would not last indefinitely. And it also showed that Marguerite really loved Armand Duval for she could even change herself for him.

Scarlett , a very personality figures ，the two mans she love ,neither does she know about.To her, I was compelled to admire, admire her strong and brave, admire her to lay down in the environment, farm workers previously suffered education, admire her to disregard the community to create their own expression of the cause .She is in the whole story, all a person full of fighting will full of vitality . I appreciated most , it is this " Tomorrow is another day of hers. " . Promising forever, full of fighting will , will never give up, never desperate. I think I'm moved by her.So, whenever I meet difficulty, the mood is not good, I will tell oneself : " Tomorrow is another day. " 'Gone with the Wind' is absolutely a good book that is worth sampling repeatedly, the characters are graceful , the plot rises and falls, exciting boldly and unconstrainedly, though the subjective factor because of the author among them , the appraisal on U.S.A.'s Civil War is not objective and overall, but as to angle of literature, this one fine piece of writing generation definitely absolutely, worth visiting.

Review on “Scent of a Woman”

The films which are played by the teacher in the Western Film Appreciation Course are classical. These films not only introduce the culture of western country, but also touch everyone’s soul, make everyone to think about life. I am aways moved by these films. Among these films, my favorite is Scent of a Woman.

Scent of a Woman is about a poor but excellent prep school student Charlie faces with the dilemma of whether or not tell the president who played a trick on him. If he tells the president the fact that he knew, the president promises Charlie that he will be admitted by Harvard, if not, he will be expelled.

A retired blind Colonel Frank who hires Charlie as his companion. Frank arranges a special tour to New York City in the Thanksgiving weekend with Charlie. Frank lives in dark, so he has lost the motivation to keep alive in the world, he intends to commit suicide after enjoying the tour. Charlie saves Frank from verge of death ,Frank is moved by Charlie’s brave and feels the true love from Charlie’s perseverance , finally, he give up to kill himself and gets the hope and confidence again. Frank makes a speech in Charlie’s school and persuade the Disciplinary Committee not to expell Charlie for he didn’t tell the fact.
