----About Wordsworth and His Poem

When we hear a real poem, it can help us understand the power and long life of great poetry. Poetry is different from the novel, newspaper; it is more intense than other writing, which more intense with feeling. And it is the true language of emotion. At such time, I might wish I was a poet, but not. So I like read the poetry, especially the “I wandered lonely as a cloud”, for it is a pleasure to listen to, and it sounds naturally to the ear.

William Wordsworth, the representative of the early romanticism, He was born in 1770 and in a lawyer’s family. He studied at Cambridge from 1787 to 1791. At that time, he was a warm supporter of the French revolution. In 1797, he made friends with Coleridge and they write the “The Rime of the Ancient Mariner”. Late, Wordsworth’s attitude to the revolution changed and he gave up his former political opinion, and he lived in the Lake Pistrict. He and Colerige, southey were called Lake Poet. Because they lived in the same place and shared the similar view of literary and social in their work. And, he was made Poet Laureate in 1843, and died in 1850.

The Cop and the Anthem

The Cop and the Anthem is one of O.Henry's representative works. This novel

describes a vagrant who is jobless, homeless and commits crime on purpose so that he can be put into prison in winter. However,things don't goes as he expected. But when he makes up his mind to give up evil and return to good, he is arrested.

Based on the whole text, the author's humor is present in various ways, one of

which is through irrationality during the development of plots. soap, the vagrant who has stirred up trouble for six times, is eager to go to prison. But he is always out of luck and get policeman's forgiveness. When soap is touched by the anthem and wants to be a good citizen, he is arrested for groundless reasons. This way is a kind of black humor manifesting social reality profoundly. We can see something gloomy, desperate,but simultaneously, we can't help laughing when reading the vivid description.

After reading ODE TO THE WEST WIND

——写在读完《西风颂》之后

以上是出于个人喜欢，在英语老师的介绍下，自己做的摘抄。英语阅读其实不能仅仅局限于课内，更应该注重课外。在老师的极力推荐下，我用了接近一个月的时间，把这首长诗，从头到尾初学了一遍。个人感觉，这不仅能满足我对中英文诗歌的喜好，还能结合语法学习相关的语法点（如if从句中的虚拟语气），更加培养了我好的学习习惯，让我意识到，个人探索、个人研究在我学习方面所起到的重大作用。以下是撇开课堂英语语法以外，为了更好的理解这首诗歌，所做的资料查询与搜索，这真正让我学到了课堂之外的许多知识。

背景：

当时，欧洲各国的工人运动和革命运动风起云涌。英国工人阶级为了争取自身的生存权利，正同资产阶级展开英勇的斗争，捣毁机器和罢工事件接连不断。1819年8月，曼彻斯特八万工人举行了声势浩大的游行示威，反动当局竟出动军队野蛮镇压，制造了历史上著名的彼得卢大屠杀事件。雪莱满怀悲愤，写下了长诗《暴政的假面游行》，对资产阶级政府的血腥暴行提出严正抗议。法国自拿破仑帝制崩溃、波旁王朝复辟以后，阶级矛盾异常尖锐，广大人民正酝酿着反对封建复辟势力的革命斗争。拿破仑帝国的解体也大大促进了西班牙人民反对异族压迫和封建专制的革命运动，1819年1月，终于响起了武装起义的枪声。就在武装起义的前夕，雪莱给西班牙人民献上了《颂歌》一首，为西班牙革命吹响了进军的号角。在意大利和希腊，民族解放运动方兴未艾，雪莱的《西风颂》发表不久，这两个国家也先后爆发了轰轰烈烈的武装起义。面对着欧洲山雨欲来风满楼的革命形势，雪莱为之鼓舞，为之振奋，诗人胸中沸腾着炽热的革命激情。这时，在一场暴风骤雨的自然景象的触发下，这种难以抑制的革命激情立刻冲出胸膛，一泻千里，化作激昂慷慨的歌唱。 （摘自网络）

Dead poet society

The book dead poet society is one of the few books which touches my heart and make me choke for something. I love it so much that when I finished it I had decided to go on it once.

There are so many aspects deserving our commenting. Such as “Why do the school, Welton

Academy, kill the personalities of children” ,“ Is right that educational ways of the teachers or parents to their children like those in that book” and “The faith of John Keating”……All of them are my beloveds，but the words “seize the day and make your life extraordinary” is my favorite. So I will illusion that in the book in the following.

What is ?seize the day??I have thought it was to do the things around me, you should do, before I read it. Then when I finished it I know I?m wrong. Seize the day is to devote yourself to the things that you love to do and learn to how to choose our life. When in the classes of the school?s origin teacher Dr. Hager, in face of the dull course, the students often said “You?ll get used to old Hager”. But in the class of Keating, students are allowed to express their ideas and have the chance to find what they like and chase it.
