The call of the wild

There are many reasons for me choosing this book to read but the most important reason is that this book tells a story o “dog and human”. I have a special feeling about it, because i had spent a long quality time with a dog for about 12 years . Although he had dead for three years ,i still often think about him. I always believe that dogs are our friends,and they are very loyal, brilliant and special animal differed from other creatures.

The call of the wild was written by Jack London who was a famous ,widely read ,and best-known writer in America in twenty century. This book tells us an experience of extraordinary dog-Buck who is a massive ,strong regal dog with a rich coat of fur. At the beginning of the story, Buck is a pet of a rich judge`. And he spends his days leisurely. Unfortunately, he is stolen by a gardener and sold to the north to work as a sled dog. Everything in his surround is the opposite of comforting familiarity of house. He has to face varieties of fierce and dangerous situations independently. With time goes by, Buck learn how to fight against attacks by other dogs and struggle for good ,at the same time ,he becomes stronger and stronger. But he is hopeless in the face of the clubbing and starvation by men. Changes happen to him.when he is gonging to be beat to death,john Thornton save him and take care of hin until recovering. They become best friend. Unfortunately again,his master is killed by Indian,he becomes homeless. Simultaneously, he faces the challenge of being accepted by the wolf pack and he chooses to take leadership of the wolf pack.

读《野性的呼唤》有感

出于对狗的喜爱，我曾阅读过许多描写狗的小说,但最具震撼力的，无疑是美国作家杰克·伦敦的这部《野性的呼唤》。

故事开始于美国南部一个大法官家中。我们的主人公是一条有着圣伯纳德犬和苏格兰牧羊犬混血血种的狗，巴克，一条养尊处优的贵族狗。但故事还有一个背景，阿拉斯加淘金热，大批的人涌向那个冰天雪地的地方，他们需要助手——狗，因此，大批的狗被贩卖到阿拉斯加;这其中，也包括了巴克。他先是被园丁助手贩卖出去，又在一个地方被一个穿红毛衣的人用棍棒“教育”，在那里，他懂得了“棍棒与犬牙的法则”，这里，也是他野性被唤醒的第一步。

如果说，这个男人的棍棒是打开他尘封野性的钥匙，那么后面卷毛的惨遇以及等等他的同伴的习性和遭遇则是真正交给他生存法则的教条。卷毛的死，让他明白了极地的生存法则：只能站着，绝不能倒下，倒下就是死。巴克的偷盗，让他明白了，在这个地方，只有生存是最重要的，这里不是南方，道德没有任何用;他第一次顺利的偷窃，也标示着他已经适应了这里的生活。当然，还有一条对巴克的转变有着重要意义的狗——丝毛犬。他不断的试图挑衅，巴克开始一直忍让着，避免引发正面冲突。正是他让巴克不断的学习，并且真正变得狡猾：他能引起内哄，能自己结党。最后巴克战胜了他，是他让巴克尝试到了杀戮的快感，血腥的满足。他让巴克，真正意义上回归了野性。

此时的巴克，已经没有任何仁义道德可言。他适应了北方残酷的生存环境，习惯了弱肉强食的生活。他杀掉了丝毛犬，取而代之当上了领头犬，并且将一只狗队管理的井然有序。他，已经完全蜕变了。蜕变成一只堪比当地的爱斯基摩犬，甚至比爱斯基摩犬还要狡猾的“野兽”。

Rules of Living

The call of the wild is a story about a dog. However, the story also vividly describes the life in the primitive North where people rushed for gold and fortune.

Buck, a dog which was belonging to a judge, was kidnapped and sold to North. Then he became a member of a dog-team pulling a sled. In the days of pulling the snow-sled, he learned the rules of living—obedient to the law of nature and obeys the master. Only in this way, Buck can live. And finally, he found a basic instinct hidden inside him, which enabled himself to survive the difficult environment. At the end of the story, Buck returned to the embrace of nature. This is all about The call of the wild.

The competition which exists in the human society and the spirit what people have is a reflection of ancient wild. It brings a desire to conquer all things. Just like Buck, before he joins the team, he never thought about that he will be in a crowd of dogs and struggling to survive. But Buck is very brave in the tough days and never gives up. When he found he must be faced the rules of living, the unyielding wild in the deep of himself was quickly wake up.

The Call of the Wild

It is a book written by Jack London , one of my favourite American writers , who intends to reflect the characteristics of humanity especially in the the period of gold rush by the image of an dog called Buck. Before entering the college , I have read the chinese vision of the book. And recently , I watched the film based on it . It is really wonderful . So I choose the book again. As far as I am concerned , the book can be divided into 3 parts in general.

In the firsr place , Buck lived in a happly life . He is the lovely pet of the Miller . He can get sufficient food everyday. We can even say that he has the same status as our human. To some degree , I am jealous of him as he does not have to worry about anything . All that he needs to do is to be loyal to his master . It is an easy thing . However , happy time is always short .

1 J ack London was born in San Francisco on January 12, 1876, the illegitimate son of Flora Wellman, the rebellious daughter of an aristocratic family, and William Chaney, a traveling astrologer who abandoned Flora when she became pregnant. Eight months after her son was born, Flora married John London, a grocer and Civil War veteran whose last name the infant took. London grew up in Oakland, and his family was mired in poverty throughout his youth. He remained in school only through the eighth grade but was a voracious reader and a frequent visitor to the Oakland Public Library, where he went about edu-cating himself and laying the groundwork for his impending literary career.

In his adolescent years, London led a rough life, spending time as a pirate in San Francisco Bay, traveling the Far East on sealing expeditions, and making his way across America as a tramp. Finally, temporarily tired of adventure, London returned to Oakland and graduated from high school. He was even admitted to the University of California at Berkeley, but he stayed only for a semester. The Klondike gold rush (in Canada’s Yukon Territory) had begun, and in 1897 London left college to seek his fortune in the snowy North.

Jack London was a very famous realistic writer. He was also a strong sailor and a war correspondent. He was born in 1876,San Francisco, California. It is believed that he is the illegitimate son of an astrologer whose name was William Chaney. His family was poor----no fixed occupations, and no fixed residence. So Jack had to take some time off to work and support his family. Jack’s extensive life experiences is very difficult.When he was 20, Jack entered the University of California. But he dropped out of school after only one semester because he didn’t have enough money to pay the tuition fee. In 1897, he went to Alaska to join the Gold Rush. Although didn’t getting much gold, he found lots of ideas for his books and stories. Then he went back home and began to write. In 1900, he put out of his first novel----The Son of the Wolf,shocking the literary circle. From then on, with many of his new short novels published he began to have a place in the American literature world. Later Jack became the best-selling, highest paid and most popular American author of his time.Fifty-one of his books and hundreds of his articles had been published. His most notable books include The Call of the Wild which was published in 1903, belongs to the type which is about the life of the polar region.It is the book that we are talking about. His writings have been translated into many languages and to many of his works were widely read among the world. Most of his works are full of positive emotions including energetic, enjoying, enthusiastic, exhilarated and brave, and full of hardworking. As his writings were warmly welcomed and he became rich and famous when he was under thirty . But Jack London was not a happy man. In poor health. He took his own life in 1916. He was then only forty years old.
